‘There are too many guns in America’ Says The Man Who Shot President Reagan

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Current Events This Week

The man who shot President Ronald Reagan in 1981 with a handgun that he purchased from a Texas pawnshop with a fake ID is speaking out publicly after being formally released from court supervision.

The New York Post reports that John Warnock Hinckley Jr. was released from court oversight last month. After his release, he was interviewed by Juju Chang for ABC’s “Nightline.”

During the interview, Hinckley expressed his opinions about guns in America.

“I certainly don’t think the mentally ill should have access to guns. I mean that’s kind of obvious,” Hinckley said.

“Background checks are good, and waiting periods are good,” he continued.

“I think there are too many guns in America,” Hinckley said.

Hinckley was 25 years old when he attempted to assassinate President Reagan outside of the Washington Hilton Hotel on March 30, 1981. He was reportedly driven by a desire to impress actress Jodie Foster, who was a teenage movie actress at the time.

Also injured during the attack was White House Press Secretary James Brady. Brady was seriously wounded and paralyzed as a result. Brady’s injuries led to the enactment of the Brady Law which was passed by Congress in 1993 and imposed a waiting period and increased background checks for gun purchasers.

Hinckley was charged with 13 crimes and was found not guilty by reason of insanity. He was committed to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, DC until 2016 when he was granted permission to live with his mother in Virginia under court supervision.

On June 15, Judge Paul L. Friedman released Hinckley from court oversight on the condition that he remain mentally stable.

Why do we need to hear from this mental deficient ? He adds nothing to any conversation on any subject.

. . . “released Hinckley from court oversite on the condition that he remain mentally stable.”? News for you Judge, psychiatry is NOT an exact science. Who gave you the right to determine if Hinckley is now sane? Step down from your bench Judge, and go see a Psychiatrist.

Living with his mother under court supervision . . . . Is his mother able to supervise (or know) what sunny is up to? I have my doubts. Oh well, such is law enforcement and the court system today.

And this asshat says anything about anything, should not matter to anyone. Being in a mental hospital for decades makes him an expert on nothing.

  • Shawn July 15, 2022, 12:40 pm

Pathetic that the left will give any attention to the opinions of this moonbat.

I came here for the express purpose of stating that although I searched high and low and checked my pockets twice,I simply could not find a single or even partial eff to give.
Why this poor imitation of a person is allowed to breath when the awesome man he almost killed is long dead is a indication of the failure of the justice system.
    He should delete himself

Sooo… You have to shoot a President to gain credibility with ABC news. Is that the point of this article?

You gotta love the idea that we need a survey from the ‘crazy squad’ on gun rights, or ANYTHING else!
Next up, the results of the other participants: Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, Charles Manson, John Gacy, Mark David Chapman, Jim Jones, John Wilkes Booth, Jeff Dahmer, Harris and Klebold, A.O.C, ilhan Omar. They can turn it into a monthly survey with a different nut each month.

Released from Court supervision ON CONDITION THAT he remains mentally stable?? Oh, so this Judge figures that, a year, or five from now, Momma’s going to come to court and say My good boy isn’t mentally stable anymore, please lock him back up? Get real. This guy needs to be behind locked doors (with bars or without) for the rest of his natural life.

And Paul is right — this all started when we got rid of the mental hospital system and tried to “mainstream” people who simply aren’t capable of dealing with society. As a society we abandon them to their fate, letting them live on the streets or turn to crime, because they can’t handle normal life. It was kinder to give them a place to live away from society — and better for society as well.

First I agree with the previous 5 comments. He is in my 1970 ish High School year book for HPHS Scots.
To my knowledge none of the rest of the people in that yearbook attempted to kill the President of the US.
Most of us (if not all) went on to lead normal productive lives, some more than others.
Regardless of his mental condition then or now, he and Judge Paul L Friedman deserve to return to the Hinkley
padded room. John Boy can keep and play his guitar, Judge Paul can be his audience.

The experts agree , those lacking intellectual
dexterity should not have access to firearms .

  • BJG July 15, 2022, 7:48 am

Who cares what this POS has to say. Why isn’t he in prison? I guess because President Reagan was a Republican????

  • Neil l July 15, 2022, 7:34 am

So they interview someone that’s insane and we’re supposed to listen to it. I agree he got his 15 minutes of fame now screw the crazy fat fuck till he gets mentioned in the obituary

  • Paul July 15, 2022, 3:25 am

Why do people feel the need to open their mouth about stuff that they are really wholly unqualified to speak on? While he certainly has the right to do so, “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should”.

This dude obtained a weapon ILLEGALLY, yet he thinks it’s important that we are told (by him) that there are too many guns…

The best thing we as a society can do is bring back the mental asylums for dudes like Hinkley. At a minimum it would spare us all from the rantings of attention-seeking nobodies like him.

  • Neil J July 12, 2022, 11:30 am

Too bad the sumbitch survived 3/30/81. The worthless POS deserves no publicity, other than his future obituary.
