Thompson Auto-Ordnance is expanding their commemorative World War II collections with the addition of the 75th Anniversary Iwo Jima Series. The series includes a Thompson carbine, an M1 Carbine and a Model 1911 pistol.

“After nearly four long years of fighting, members of the United States Marine Corps, Navy, Army and Coast Guard had accomplished many seemingly insurmountable tasks,” said Thompson. “Yet in February of 1945, a battle lay before them that would go down in our nation’s history as one of the most difficult victories ever achieved.”

“On the desolate volcanic atoll known as Iwo Jima, a new chapter was written in the history of the United States military,” they added. “And in particular of the Marines, who fought tooth and nail for every inch of land against a suicidal foe.”

“Their victory will be forever remembered, immortalized in the famous photograph of the flag raising on Mount Suribachi. On this, the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima, Auto-Ordnance’s latest historical gun series honors all those who fought there.”

Each gun in the 75th Anniversary Iwo Jima Series features custom engraving with images and iconography from the soldiers and the battle and comes with a durable distressed copper Cerakote finish. The series will be available starting January 2020, just before the anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima.

The engraving is by Outlaw Ordnance. The A1-pattern 1911, chambered for .45 ACP is engraved with the quote by Admiral Chester Nimitz, saying “Among the men who fought on Iwo Jima, uncommon valor was a common virtue.” Other engravings highlight Operation Detachment battle scenes.

The Iwo Jima M1 Carbine, chambered for .30 Carbine, is engraved all along the stock and forend. It displays the dates of the battle, an advancing American flag and the Nimitz quote.

Like the pistol and the M1 Carbine, the Thompson includes the quote, a depiction of the raising flag on Mount Suribachi, and other elements from the battle of Iwo Jima.

Each Iwo Jima 1911 ships with a 7-round steel magazine and carries a suggested price of $1,247. The M1 Carbine, which has an 18-inch barrel, ships with one 15-round magazine and has a $1,391 MSRP. The .45-caliber Thompson carbine rounds out the top end of the series priced at $1,886 and it comes with a 16.5-inch barrel and two magazines, one 20-round and one 30-round magazine.

Contrary to what is written in this article, “On the desolate volcanic atoll known as Iwo Jima,” Iwo Jima is not an atoll, but an island. It is formed of volcanic rock, unlike atolls which are made of coral.
