Top 5 Pro-Gun Celebrities

Authors Rapid Fire S.H. Blannelberry

Surprisingly, there are pro-gun celebrities. I say “surprisingly,” because Tinseltown is often thought to be one of the hotbeds for anti-gun zealotry. It is — but some notable actors, actresses and musicians have been able to earn a living there despite the palpable animus that exists toward those who enthusiastically exercise their Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

After giving it considerable thought, I decided to come up with a list of the top five pro-gun celebrities. My rubric for evaluations was based off of three criteria:

  1. Fame Factor, which is to say how famous and relevant are they? A-lister, B-lister, Has been?
  2. How outspoken are they on the Second Amendment? Are they closet 2A supporters or do they wear their love of firearms on their sleeve?
  3. Finally, how much do I admire their work? Do they put out movies or music I actually watch and listen to?

1. Team Brangelina

Yup. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are my number one. Easy decision if you ask me. Yes, it’s kinda unfair that I’m using them as a two for one, but it’s my list so I reserve the right to bend the rules.

With respect to the scoring system not only does this high-profile couple love firearms and freely admit that they do, but they’ve also appeared in some of the best movies ever made (I’d say “Fight Club” is in my top 25 favorite films).

A quote from Pitt on the relationship between guns and America:

I absolutely don’t believe you can put sanctions or shackles on what is made. Nor do I want to pretend the world is different than what we witnessed that night… America is a country founded on guns. It’s in our DNA. It’s very strange but I feel better having a gun. I really do. I don’t feel safe, I don’t feel the house is completely safe, if I don’t have one hidden somewhere. That’s my thinking, right or wrong.

2. Clint Eastwood

Yeah, he could have easily been my number one. I love Clint. I love the majority of his movies too. Even those that are not considered to be iconic Eastwood movies: “Heartbreak Ridge,” “Every Which Way but Loose,” “In the Line of Fire,” among others.

One can argue that with his directing and acting credentials, Eastwood could easily be on the Mt. Rushmore of Hollywood celebrities. He’s a legend. It doesn’t hurt our cause that he’s pro-gun too!

Here’s an excerpt from the Washington Examiner that recounts how Eastwood summed up his views on gun control while attending an event at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in his honor in 2012.

I am a grand believer in the safety of firearms, and I’ll leave you with this story,” the actor and director said. Eastwood told the tale of a middle aged woman being stopped in her car by a police officer. The cop notices that she has a concealed weapons permit and asks her if she has a gun. She does–locked in the glove compartment there’s a 59 automatic Smith & Wesson gun. “‘oh, great, anything else?'” Eastwood says the officer asked. The answer? Yes — in the console a .357 revolver and two boxes of ammunition. Anything else? Again, yes, in the woman’s purse there was a 40 caliber Glock automatic and two extra clips.

And he says, ‘my God woman, what are you afraid of?’ and she says, ‘freakin’ nothing,'” Eastwood smirked. “That sort of sums up my gun control.

3. Johnny Depp

Yeah, Depp is a mercurial talent. Some of his performances are masterful and otherworldly (Edward Scissorhands) while others are just downright weird and creepy (His Willy Wonka was terribly offensive to the great Gene Wilder). Yet, no one can argue that Depp is a mega star. And I like Depp. Not nearly as much as Clint, but when he’s not doing one of those big budget, high concept family films, I’m typically willing to watch him at work.

Depp is not a huge Second Amendment advocate. Not nearly as outspoken as Eastwood and Team Brangelina, but he is one of us (or so it appears).

Here’s what Depp had to say about teaching his children about firearms.

We would just go out and line up a bunch of cans and shoot with rifles, handguns and at times, submachine guns… When I was a kid it was a controlled atmosphere, we weren’t shooting at humans… we were shooting at cans and bottles mostly. I will most certainly take my kids out for target practice.

4. Ted Nugent

The Nuge’s star power has waned since the 1970s and 80s. He’s no longer selling out stadiums. But for what the aging rockstar lacks in fame, he certainly makes up for in his 2A advocacy as very few would dispute that Uncle Ted is arguably the most pro-gun celebrity on the face of the planet.

Though he can be divisive and inflammatory at times, I like Ted. I have had the pleasure of interviewing him a few times and I will say this, it always makes for a memorable experience!

Here’s an interview I had with the Motor City Madman when I was working for Guns.com:

5. Ice-T

Sure, Ice-T is not an A-lister but he does have a regular gig on one of those CSI shows. So, I’d say he’s a solid B-lister.  As far as an actor and rapper, Ice-T’s pretty good. I don’t think he’s legendary, but he’s certainly no scrub.  I dig some of his stuff.

What I really like about Ice-T is his practical candor when discussing firearms. He simply gets it. For him, owning a firearm is a way to keep tyrants in check — not go hunting.

I love this interview:

How did everyone miss our President
Donald Trump ? He carried a 1911 for years, and is trying to get National Reciprocity pass and or a Federal Permit passed.

    • Tim Currier January 26, 2020, 7:24 pm

Trump was a fan of taking guns first then dealing with due process later… try again. Stop blindly following.

  • Thomas Campenni May 26, 2017, 8:22 am

Keanu Reeves is a huge supporter. Watch his live fire training videos at Taran Tactical. Awesome….

  • DAveL September 17, 2015, 7:43 pm

No Vince Vaughan? He’d be 1 or 2 on my list…

  • Peacekeeper January 10, 2015, 1:00 am

This author blows. I am with all the rest that say Tom Selleck should be #1. Also the author says Ice-T should be on the list and doesn’t even know what show he’s been on for the last 14 years. You call yourself a writer? Geeze? I hope Guns America isn’t paying you.

  • Sunnyburle January 6, 2015, 9:50 pm

    Tom Selleck – 1911guy

  • Bobbie B January 5, 2015, 12:09 am

John Wayne talked the talk but wouldn’t walk the walk, unlike many many actors and celebrities did who also had families and big salaries.
At that time actors and actresses tried to keep their public image consistent with that portrayed on the screen.
He was clearly a patriot in public image but his actions spoke louder than his words. That makes him a coward in my book.
It’s true he probably did more for the war effort making patriotic war movies than as a dogface in a trench but he was still a coward to keep out of it.

do Julius ceaser or William the conqueror sleep soundly in eternity or do they roll in eternal despair for the lands they have “stolen” from their fellow human beings give me a break on the plight of the native peoples crap my celtic ancestors bounced around the ancient world to the beat of an oft changing master as have every group of humans in the history of our existence

  • ch January 4, 2015, 12:37 am

I’m guessing that everyone’s favorite Clint Eastwood movie is “Paint Your Wagon”?

  • Jim January 3, 2015, 10:00 pm

I vote for Jed Clampett myself. Now there is a man that knows how to use a gun, for finding Rabbits, Oil and getting the drop on Bushwackers !

  • G W January 3, 2015, 8:07 pm

Where do I get a TED for President sticker??

  • WillB January 3, 2015, 6:40 pm

The reason Ted lives in Texas now is that it was almost the only State that did not revoke his hunting license for poaching and hunting out of season……but that’s how you make this list I suppose.

  • WillB January 3, 2015, 6:35 pm

Ted Nugent has a gun, found a way around the Mann Act, serial adulterer, and a commendable record as (1) draft dodger, (2) deadbeat father, (3) pedophile, (4) poacher…..but he does have a gun.. course you can’t be much of a poacher without one.

Check out his biography if you have any doubts.

  • Tschako January 3, 2015, 2:12 pm

Ice-T??? Have you ever read the lyrics to “Cop Killer” Have you ever seen his interviews where he says he’s a hero to gangsters, and calls Police Chief Parks an “Uncle Tom”? Now that he’s fat and succesful (playing a cop on TV, no less) he feels he can throw a bone to gun owners. A worthless POS!! In your own words,Ice-T: F,,,You!

  • John Porter January 3, 2015, 12:15 pm

I can’t put Nugent on ANY list of positive things! I’ve heard him talk, I’ve read articles about him, and his clearly racist beliefs detract from anything good that could be said about his beliefs on guns. Secondly, no matter what you think/thought about Vietnam, as a 2 tour Nam vet, I will NEVER forgive him for the things he did to avoid serving, and for the things he said at the time the war was going on. Nugent is in the same worthless, anti-American class as ‘Hanoi Jane’ in my eyes. I keep hoping for a hunting ‘accident’ that puts a bullet through his empty head!!

A lib cannot hide long on a conservative site.

  • James January 3, 2015, 12:09 pm

What about Gunny from Mail Call and Full Metal Jacket?! I love his Glock commercials!

  • Rex January 3, 2015, 11:00 am

Johnny Depp!? You should have reference links for all these alleged comments. Tom Selleck should be at the top. You also forgot Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, and Steven Segal.

  • Kellen January 3, 2015, 11:00 am

Ice-T actually sounds way more intelligent then I thought me would.

  • Bill Laing January 3, 2015, 10:55 am

Two combat tours taught me that owning a self defense firearm is not only our rite but is also a responsibility. The celebrities may not be my personal favorites but they get it. Ice-T may not always be politically correct but he has the courage to speak his mind. I love my flawed country. As long as we can legally bear arms and vote we will remain the land of the free.

  • Gunslinger January 3, 2015, 10:42 am

Pat Sajak from Wheel of Fortune was missed by all of you–he tops the A-list for the 55+ crowd. Clearly Selleck & Willis belong as well. Do your homework!

  • 440 volt January 3, 2015, 10:28 am

No Hollywood pro Second Amendment supporter list would be complete without Marion Mitchell Morrison – John Wayne

    • steve July 1, 2016, 3:47 pm

show me where john wayne was anti gun. prove it. I have seen otherwise. LOL

  • James January 3, 2015, 10:19 am

Hey guys. You gotta figure that Ted represents the ” Gonzo !!! ” in your face contingent of the pro-guns people and then the quiet ones like Sinise and Angelina are more refined, but when it comes down to it thank god they are there as a collective voice. As far as Ice T, I don’t respect anyones music that puts down or glorifies one group of people over another , and certainly not anyone that treats women like trash either musically or in actions. That being said I had some pretty stupid mis-conceptions growing up that I certainly wouldn’t want to be judged for now so Im kinda torn over him. In any case Im glad that they are there to help.

  • Jack January 3, 2015, 10:18 am

Steven Seagal should be on your list!

  • William January 3, 2015, 9:50 am

Awww how about the grand daddy of all???? Charlton Heston!!!

  • SSgt Mas January 3, 2015, 9:28 am

Who edits this place, anybody?! Johnny Depp has made numerous anti-American statements over the years, and like most liberal elites, believes HE should be allowed to own guns but that us ‘commoners’ shouldn’t have such a right. He’s an elitist whack job, and I don’t want him associated with anything that I suport.

As others have pointed out, Tom Selleck was missed- he’s more of an a-lister than Ted Nugent. Also, the author obviously couldn’t find ten, which is why he made the list five- maybe the list should have been even shorter.

  • Tucker January 3, 2015, 9:28 am

I’m sure your thinking about the living but you should still mention the greatest of th all, Charlton Heston. Of course you could also mention Ronald Reagan.

  • Tucker January 3, 2015, 9:27 am

I’m sure your thinking about the living but you should still mention the greatest of th all, Charlton Heston. Of course you could also mention Ronald Reagan.

  • james January 3, 2015, 9:17 am

Excuse me….is anyone actually listening to Ice-T? Did you hear what he said…”to protect yourself from the Police..” AND what about the last statement “….your never going to have Justice on stolen lands..”…..are you people at GUNSAMERICA paying attention?

    • Ron January 3, 2015, 10:42 am

Did he lie??? I think not, you must haven’t read or don’t understand what the 2nd amendment means or stands for!!! I’ll let you read it once more and embody what it actually was put in place for and then you will understand… And about stolen land you must know nothing about history!!! When you claim a land that already has people on it and you kill those people and take their land, yes you just stole their land!!!!!

  • Frank January 3, 2015, 8:20 am

I give Ice T a pass on the music thing, it was years ago and I’m sure he would do things a little differently. I’m sure we/I have never done anything we’re embarassed about. (Especially 20 yrs ago) I love the list though. If it were a top 10 I’d include Mr. Selleck and Mr. Willis. I really enjoyed Mr. Selleck handing rosie odonnell her arse after she ambushed him on her crappy former talk show. Mr. Willis, Diehard. Enough said.

  • Judy January 3, 2015, 7:47 am

    Denzel Washington, Tom Selleck.
That interview with Ice-T was good but his songs sing another tune. Sorry, no go on that.

  • tom January 3, 2015, 7:05 am

who cares. pigs have guns. so should i. period…..

    • Murphy's Law January 3, 2015, 5:09 pm

“Pigs”? Seriously? Your stupid post and your pathetic grammar suggest you you’re probably still just a kid, but no matter how old you really are, I suspect that you’re one of the mouth-breathers that the rest of us carry guns to protect ourselves and our loved ones from.

  • Tony January 3, 2015, 5:25 am

    Tom Selleck. Done & Done.

  • JoshO December 15, 2014, 2:10 pm

How on Earth do you leave Bruce Willis off of this list? Scratching my head over that one.

  • Ken December 10, 2014, 5:28 pm

    Gary Sinise.

    • Thundertoad January 3, 2015, 8:36 am

      Excellent suggestion.

  • Russ December 8, 2014, 6:10 pm

I like Ted the most these days.
It’s a tradition for me to listen to “Stranglehold” while driving as I’m getting close to my desert spot for shooting.

  • Jeff Sartain December 8, 2014, 5:40 pm

I agree, your list must include Tom Selleck.
The man needs to run for president. He had made some great western movie.
I agree that Clint Eastwood is a great American and strong support of firearms.

    • berferd January 5, 2015, 5:05 pm

Interesting ticket; Selleck – Eastwood. Certainly would have name recognition and swoon factor for the ladies.

  • Evan December 8, 2014, 1:58 pm

Heartbreak Ridge was an awful movie. After 15 minutes in the Marine Corps you can point out that basically everything in it was wrong.

    • Joe McHugh December 10, 2014, 12:57 pm

Evan, I agree about the portrayal of that Marine recon squad in the movie “A Few Good Men”. There is grumbling and there is outright lack of discipline.

The characters in that unit wouldn’t have made it through the first three weeks at the Paris Island or San Diego recruit depots.
In defense of the producers of that movie, it was originally supposed to have been about an Army unit, not a Marine one. Apparently the production team couldn’t get the cooperation of an Army base that was closest to the production facility, so they changed the military types in the script.

One of the main goals of the U.S. Marine Corps is to instill the discipline it takes to obey orders up to, and including the ones that pose a high risk of becoming one with the universe. When a sergeant orders Marines to neutralize a machine gun emplacement, they don’t take a vote about whether it is a good idea or not.

      • Joe McHugh December 10, 2014, 1:00 pm

Sorry referenced the wrong movie, I meant to say “Heartbreak Ridge”.

        • Bill January 3, 2015, 5:38 am

Don’t start an Army v. Marine thing!

They should have a list of actors like Liam Neeson. They make gun movies over and over yet they’re for gun control.

      • hdtractor3 January 3, 2015, 6:56 am

I think you should take your shot at the U.S. Army and shoot some place else!! The US Army Will take orders just like Marine with no Question either! What a disrespectful post!!

        • Retrocon January 3, 2015, 9:52 am

In the Army, we were taught to question the legality of EVERY order, if we had a legitimate concern.

But yes, discipline was key, but honestly, when training with Jarheads, who had just completed Paris Island, during AIT (Marines trained with the Army MP corps at the time) the Marines did tend to have a higher level of esprit de corps. And, yes, they said good night to Chesty at lights out, every night. At the time, their boot was also longer than our basic, that probably contributed somewhat.

      • Terry January 3, 2015, 1:59 pm

I personally resent the implication that the original concept “the production team couldn’t get the cooperation of an Army base that was closest to the production facility, so they changed the military types in the script.” insinuates lack of discipline in an Army unit. As a former officer in the U.S. Army that’s BS. Every military unit has their quota of grippers and the Marines are no exception. Good order and discipline are paramount in all the U.S.Armed Forces and it’s unseemly to disparage one to enhance another. I’d put Delta Force, Special Forces or Ranger units up against a Marine unit anytime. Get over yourself.

        • John January 3, 2015, 4:25 pm

Terry, while as a navy man myself, I have the utmost respect for anybody, male or female, that puts their name on the dotted line to serve this great country. But the comparison you make between a Marine unit to Delta Force, Special Forces, or Rangers, is tantamount to comparing an ordinary Army platoon to a S.E.A.L. Team or a Marine Force Recon team. I understand where you are coming from but you are comparing an elite Special forces team to a regular services unit. Enough said on that topic, I thank you for your service and dedication to this great country and the great Second Amendment.

    • Lyn January 3, 2015, 11:49 am

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, it was a movie for crying out loud, give the man a break. Heartbreak Ridge was still an entertaining movie and even though I was only in the Army, I too noticed a lot of things that just were not military like.

  • grifhunter December 8, 2014, 1:46 pm

    Chuck Woolery https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evEg1VNfX3o

Any of the Duck Dynasty characters are bigger celebs that Ice T.

Lots of pro athletes. Actors arn’t the only celebs.

    • Rick Hays January 3, 2015, 11:23 am

That’s interesting. I never knew that about him.

  • Kevin B December 8, 2014, 11:28 am

I usually don’t comment on personal views about these type of subjects but this one raised my blood pressure. Ice-T…really?! Here is what a REAL gun advocate says about that individual…look up the lyrics online (Cop Killer and KKK Bitch), absolutely disgusting!!! This is a guy that advocated killing cops on sight and sodomizing 12 year girls!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6lwNyCo7O8
There are MANY other choices that should replace him on your list. Tom Selleck & Bruce Willis just to name a few.

    • Russ December 8, 2014, 6:04 pm

      I guess he grew up.

      • Kevin B December 11, 2014, 12:23 am

You don’t “grow up” from a sick, twisted mind!

      • Doc Liberty January 3, 2015, 10:47 am

Ice-T narrated a powerful pro-gun/pro-2nd Amendment documentary related to civil rights in the last few years that unfortunately didn’t get wide distribution. I saw it in a theatre here in CA. For an area to get the movie you had to pre-sell the theatre. The movie was “Assaulted: Civil Rights Under Fire”. Say what you will about his earlier work or even his other political stances…when it comes to the 2nd Amendment he totally gets it…it is a civil right and is necessary to maintain civil rights. I loved his final statement which I recall was something along the line of “…shall not be infringed. What the F*** is unclear about that.”

  • js December 8, 2014, 11:19 am

I have a new found respect for Mr. Ice T….

    • Murphy's Law January 3, 2015, 5:05 pm

Don’t be in such a hurry to declare Ice T to be one of the good guys. He may get paid to pretend to be a cop on TV but he’s never apologized or atoned for his “Cop Killer” rap lyrics. I’m not willing to let him be on my side yet.

  • Paul Stoner December 8, 2014, 10:59 am

You did miss a few very good ones, maybe a TOP 10 list is in order

  • Mike Kay December 8, 2014, 10:13 am

I was surprised to Johnny & Ice-T on the list. Didn’t know they were with us. Glad they are, though. Also thought for sure to see Tom Selleck. Also sorta thought Bruce Willis might have made the list. I recall some 2A friendly commentary from him.

  • Oldbird13 December 8, 2014, 9:10 am

What? No Tom Selleck? Easily in top 5

  • Early December 8, 2014, 5:50 am

    Alright, alright, alright!

  • Frank Patrick Kelly December 8, 2014, 5:34 am

You also overlooked Tom Sellek, NRA Director and strong supporter of gun rights.

    • jon January 3, 2015, 9:34 am

Two Detroit boys in the top 5. Sellek and Nuge. Yes! Where the weak are killed and eaten. Come tour are city. Just pack you biggest gun. Got s short barreled shotgun?

  • M J Johnson December 8, 2014, 4:24 am

Ice-T is on Law and Order: SUV, on CSI. And I’d put him on the A- list instead of a B. I’d also take out Johnny Depp and put in Tom Selleck. He’s a much better 2A advocate.

  • jay moses December 4, 2014, 3:38 pm

how can you ignore joe mantegna, great actor and host of “gun stories”?

    • M J Johnson December 8, 2014, 4:29 am

I’d rather have Joe than Ted Nugent. That man is way too loopy for my tastes.

      • Stan Ott January 3, 2015, 8:46 am

I can’t pay a lot of attention to a ” man” that did whatever he could, to avoid the draft during the VietNam era. I’m sorry, but he’s sickening. Anyone who claims to be a huge Patriot, then dodge a draft, should be standing in the same line as all the folks he labels hypocrites. Then, while on an ATV, I saw him drive right through a patch of Bluebonnets,in TEXAS BY GOD!!! They’re the state flower. He apparently doesn’t know that, and lives most of the time here, in Texas, America!!

        • dan January 3, 2015, 10:53 am

I too used to think like that. Recently my thoughts have changed: Why fight for something that we are being lied to on?
The reason for Vietnam, desert storm, and current “wars” are NOT what they are telling us and you know that.

          • Johnny Alamo January 3, 2015, 8:18 pm

Sure, I can dig that, Muhammed Ali, et al, ‘I don’t have nothing against those people” and all that. But nugent was plain narcissistic if not actually cowardly – he was deathly afraid to enroll in the armed forces of our great country, which would tell him what to do (and what not to do) for the next couple of years. Or maybe nugent was afraid to shoot at something that might shoot back. In any event he was not acting as a stand up guy willing to endure imprisonment for the sake of his personal anti-war beliefs.

          • GKPrice January 3, 2015, 10:27 pm

Dan – thank you for being honest and having some common sense (like Uncle Ted does)

    • John Ingle January 3, 2015, 9:30 am

I can’t believe you forgot Tom Selleck he’s on the board for crying out loud he’s number one

      • Peter Osborne January 3, 2015, 3:32 pm

He sure is. And actually a pretty fair shooter. Roy Rogers was a gook skeet shooter in the day, shot 95+ into his late 70’s.

        • GKPrice January 3, 2015, 10:29 pm

Roy Rogers shot a HECK of a lot more than just “skeet” ! In his younger years he was a “stud” ….

      • Jackpine January 3, 2015, 3:34 pm

Selleck should be #1 on this list, if only for the way he handled that hypocritical idiot Rosie O’Donnell.

    • mtman2 January 3, 2015, 6:34 pm

What about Charlton Heston, John Wayne, Audie Murphy, Bruce Willis, Tom Selleck, Mel Gibson, Gerald McRaney, R. Lee Ermy, Robert Davi, Danny Aiello(who’s used a pistol for protection and said so on Mike Huckabee’s FOX show); and I’m sure many more ~!

      • Macanimal January 3, 2015, 9:46 pm
