Transforming Pivot Rifle by Trailblazer Firearms — SHOT Show 2022

Levi Sim

Several years ago, Trailblazer Firearms introduced their LifeCard .22 folding single-shot pistol. This year, Trailblazer has released another transforming firearm, the Pivot 9mm rifle.

The Pivot swings on a central point to become a smaller, stow-able package.

Pivot 9mm

The Pivot is a pistol-caliber carbine that rotates between the upper and lower receivers to go from compact storage mode to a full-size rifle.

The Pivot collapsed.

It’s chambered for 9mm and utilizes Glock 19 magazines. The firearm itself is the same width as a Glock 19 at just 1.15″. Its folded length is just 20.9″ and fully deployed with the stock extended it reaches 29.7″. The barrel is a full 16″ long.

The Pivot deployed.

A single magazine is stored onboard, and it’ll hold up to a 27-round mag and still collapse completely. It’ll take any capacity magazine when deployed.

A single magazine stows in the slot on the stock. The mag must be removed to collapse.

Safety is maintained in the collapsed position by requiring the removal of the magazine and the locking open of the bolt. Additionally, it has ambidextrous safety buttons.

The frame is machined aluminum.

To deploy, the top and bottom rotate in a scissor-like motion. They lock securely together. The whole gun has a refined feel and is machined aluminum and steel with a polymer grip and stock.

It appears to be easy to access the innards for cleaning.

The barrel is thread 1/2″-28 and there are front and rear Picatinny rails. M-Lok slots abound. The bolt handle is released like an MP5 with a slap and it does not reciprocate during operation. The action is a straight blowback design.

Flat-faced trigger and ambi safety.

Production on Trailblazer’s Pivot rifle will begin in March and they are on backorder through May. The MSRP, revised since their initial announcement, is $1,795.

Also, congrats to Trailblazer — they won the “Best Of The Basement” award at SHOT (their booth was in the crowded lower level of the show where most of the booths are).

They just forget about the poor man.

  • Bill Johnson February 3, 2022, 4:48 pm

It’s cute – But, at that price I can buy 3 Real Glocks, or an assortment …
And we have no idea of Reliability, Accuracy, Upkeep etc…

  • james gregory becker February 3, 2022, 4:43 pm

I am going to agree, way too much money for the gun. kel is the way to go.

  • Brandon Bishop February 3, 2022, 4:02 pm

Had me until the price point. Id buy 3 sub2000 folding rifles for the cost of one of those.

  • OObyC February 3, 2022, 12:30 pm

Very innovative but not enough innovation for my $.
At this price I’ll stick with my Sub 2000. I can buy 3 of them, (4 if I shop around enough) 1 for each vehicle and the house at around the same price. And they are proven to work.

    Call me once it’s available in 40sw or 10mm at $900or lower…

  • Ken February 3, 2022, 10:46 am

At the price, a very high one, I don’t see whom they envisioned as customers when there are so many alternatives available, nor do I see its specific application. It seems far too expensive for the civilian/camper/hiker market, unsuitable as either a “truck gun” or for home defense, and of no value to the military. But I guess they might sell a few as prop-guns for moviemakers.

    I’m just thinking here………..
I think they really would have something if they had molded into the body a bottle and can opener along with a magnetic slot to hold different screw driver tips to use this as a screw driver. Should also have a flashing strobe light so you can place it on your car to warn other drivers if you are changing a flat tire at night in the dark. So many nifty things could be added. A Swiss army folding pistol gun. Oh, don’t forget the removable toothpick.

      And pliers for bullet extraction.

  • PacosMojo February 3, 2022, 10:01 am

“Best of the Basement”? The Basement must’ve been pretty bare.

  • Brian February 3, 2022, 8:23 am

Nice gun and cool concept but 1700 bucks? I think a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 is a better way to go for a 1/3 of the price. Just saying.

    • Godfrey Washington February 3, 2022, 11:07 am

Also 1/3 the durability and 1/3 the accuracy…

    • SeaRick February 3, 2022, 4:37 pm

Totally agree. The 9mm Sub2000 is 1/3 the price and uses my Glock mags and folds in half and is durable as all get out due to its simplicity. What could be better? Not this new puppy at that price.

  • Wilko February 3, 2022, 7:40 am

KelTec Sub 2000. Folds shorter, 16 inch barrel, glock or other magazine choices, 9mm or .40, folding optics mount (that works well) from M*Carbo … less than half the price, with the optics mount added.

  • Jay Smith February 3, 2022, 6:51 am

$1700 PLUS for THAT ? . The frame can’t be all that strong/stiff. Looks flimsy. Now if it could be locked/fired in the 90 degree offset ( IE Around corners ) , THAT would “Maybe” make it worth that much. smh

  • Bob February 3, 2022, 6:13 am

    I’ll take a keltec 2000, thanks…

  • survivor50 February 2, 2022, 5:05 pm

    5.8 Inches shorter when folded…WHY ???

    20.9 ” VS 26.7 ” … and you have to fidget with it to fire… Ummmm … I’m missing something here… this isn’t a TRANSFORMER rifle… is it ???
