Trump Talks Gun ‘BuyBack’ with New Zealand Prime Minister

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Authors Current Events S.H. Blannelberry This Week

President Trump talked gun buybacks in a closed-door meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern this week, CBS News reports.

Ardern told “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle King that during the conversation, Trump was “interested” in how the country responded to the Christchurch tragedy in March with a sweeping ban on most semiautomatic firearms, all modern sporting rifles, and magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds.

“We had a policy discussion. He was interested in how it all worked, how it had been received,” explained Ardern.

However, she couldn’t tell whether Trump was actually considering doing something similar here in America.

“I got the impression he was interested,” she said. “I would be second guessing anything beyond that.”

Per the ban, known as the Arms (Prohibited Firearms, Magazines and Parts) Amendment Regulations 2019, owners of newly prohibited firearms and accessories have until December 20, 2019 to sell them “back” to the government.  Failure to do so may result in jail time and/or fines.

The prime minister noted that citizens have turned over approximately 20,000 firearms and 70,000 parts.  Authorities estimate that there are 1.2 million to 1.5 million firearms of any type in the country, as GunsAmerica previously reported.

Suppose that 20,000 figure doubles by the December deadline, the would mean that 40,000 firearms would be “returned,” or less than four percent of the firearms in circulation.

CBS co-host Tony Dokoupil asked whether the government was “punishing law-abiding citizens, while letting the criminals continue with their criminal activity?”

“No. I mean, certainly the perspective from those who have been a part of the buyback is as they see this as the right thing to do,” she said, later adding, “And for us, actually, there is just no rational reason to have these in circulation. We don’t even know how many we had. But the fact that we have 20,000 returned in our small country of less than five million people — that’s a big result for us.”

New Zealand isn’t done with gun control.  The country is now moving to create a national registry of every firearm in the country and stiffen penalties for those found guilty of selling or transferring a firearm to an unlicensed person, NPR reports.

“Owning a firearm is a privilege not a right,” Ardern said Friday. “That means we need to do all we can to ensure that only honest, law-abiding citizens are able to obtain firearms licenses and use firearms.”

President Trump should know a thing or two about confiscatory gun schemes.  After all, it was his administration last year that outlawed bump stocks, forcing owners to destroy them or turn them over to authorities by March 26, 2019, or else face a felony charge for unlawful possession of a machine gun.

All my bump stocks were lost in a tragic boating accident.  I suspect many New Zealanders are having the same issue with their newly prohibited firearms and accessories.

Another lying politician. All Australia’s gun ban did was make a new black market for guns and automatic weapons controlled by outlaw biker gangs. FYI, ONLY A TOTAL OF 19% OF THE TOTAL GUNS WANTED IN THE AUSTRALIAN GUN BUY BACK HAVE BEEN TURNED IN! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The difference between Australia vs the United States patriot facing gun confiscation is that us patriots will kill every single politician who implemented the ban and broke their oath to the Constitution. U.S patriot gun owners are 34 million strong!! They will HANG FROM TREES ALL AROUND WASHINGTON D.C. AND THEIR HOME STATES!!!

I get a kick out of how some folks continually make up excuses for the GOP and President Trump’s stand on guns. I can only imagine these same people at Trump’s signing of a total ban on semi auto firearms, “He’s just playing 3D chess, he has them right where he wants them”. Lol! Wake up the GOP for the most part is only slightly better than the Democrats. They are still after disarmament their just getting there a little bit slower than the dems. Look at recent history for goodness sakes. Reagan, both Bushes. They all ban something. Neither side is remotely pro gun just one side is more vocal than the other. We can not keep holding your noses and voting for the lesser of two evils because in the end we still loose. Until every gun owner in America is peacefully protesting by marching in the streets about their God given constitutional rights we will continue to loose them. Maybe we are just to lazy and don’t deserve them anyway.

“Owning a firearm is a privilege not a right,” Ardern said Friday. “That means we need to do all we can to ensure that only honest, law-abiding citizens are able to obtain firearms licenses and use firearms.”

That’s why this gun confiscation will NEVER work in America. In America, gun ownership is a “right”, not a “privilege”. Just the opposite of most countries, as our great founder’s understood the power of a tyrannical government and wanted to protect Americans from this.

  • Robert Messmer September 27, 2019, 7:46 pm

Here in the USA it is indeed a RIGHT and not a privilege to keep and bear arms. I wonder it they also discussed how the government there made it a crime to speak about the Christchurch shootings. Also have to wonder if she bothered pointing out to President Trump that two, not just one, mosques were involved. The first mosque attacked had 43 dead and the second mosque only suffered 7 dead. Why the vast difference? Because at the second mosque a good guy with a gun started shooting back at the bad guy with a gun.

  • Ti September 27, 2019, 6:31 pm

MSM will be twisting this discussion too.

  • Severo Velez September 27, 2019, 5:05 pm

The problem with you politicians is that they want to force to amendment the constitution at their convenience. The cost can only be amended with the vote of the citizenry through a costitutional referemdum. Not with the mere fact of making a law or enacting an executive order.

What part of the “United States” don’t these assholes understand. When the Feds have gun laws on the books, why are individual states have the right to pass and enforce their own gun laws? The Supreme Court is getting ready to review a gun case between New York City and a gun club — the first in MANY years. There ought to be MANY more cases that show what the second amendment is all about. Honest people should be able to keep and legally bear arms. Once again, the asshole leaders who are pushing the envelope heading to a civil war need to be working in their cities to curb criminals and mentally unadjusted people.

The “government” NEVER OWNED MY rifle! I did NOT BUY it from the government! So they CANNOT “Buy It Back”!!! What they CAN DO is start a WAR by trying to confiscate our property! They seem to have forgotten about the FIRST TIME that happened in America, at a place called Concorde, Mass. (with a stop in the town of Lexington), on 19 April,1776! King George sent his troops to TAKE THE GUNS! And it started a WAR! The same thing will happen if King Trump (or any other clown) tries it NOW!

  • Larry Brickey September 27, 2019, 1:55 pm

New Zealand is a great country but “they ain’t us”. Buybacks haven’t worked and if they become compulsory, it will create millions of felons because the return will be very low.

You are going to have to kill me to get mine.
They may get me but – it is going to take some doing.

How hard is it to understand that 90% of gun crime is driven by the drug trade
    In the major cities.
AND – Mass shootings are being done by Typically Drug induced Mental Cases.
So they want to dis-arm “US” ??? The Sane, law abiding.
So they create Gun Free “Killing Zones” – So much for their solutions.
How is any of that logical?

When a Drunk Driver kills someone – you put him in jail.
Way more killed that way than with guns.
    You don’t Ban/Confiscate all Cars! – STUPID

I don’t think they understand how committed we(the Law abiding) are to the concept of
the God Given Right to “Self Defense”.

Since we don’t burn colleges, protest in the street, shoot Cops, etal.

The British tried – Exactly – this sh*t at Lex and Concord.
They tried to go there exactly to confiscate the Colony Firearms.
So everyone could be a good “Subject” of the Crown.
I should know I was there – along with many of you here.

Now – Just like back then – I don’t think they understand who they are dealing with.

NOW – there are some 300mil guns in the US.
I have asked and I cannot find a single Cop who says
he will be a part of this – confiscation.

The Very Rich – Bet your A*s they don’t want us to have guns.
    College Professors – Chicken S*ts, – Bet your A*s they don’t ……
    Dems – Chicken S*ts, – Bet your ……

I don’t “Want” to fight – But By God I Will.
Along beside the millions with me – we already did this s*it once before long ago.

    • ~ Occams September 27, 2019, 7:38 pm

A few comments on the New Zealand Gun Ban-
First of all, the government did not sell those guns to the people in the first place, so how is it justly called a “buy-back”? And I am quite certain they will offer what they consider a fair price, but it is rarely what the firearm is worth. Many people chose to buy firearms as an investment or collector item, so how do you rationalize giving them a base price without being fair about the extra worth as a rare model or historic value. What about family heirlooms passed down from generations, or even something you received from a Father or Grandfather?
Secondly, although governments like to say something is a privilege, and not a right because that makes them appear to be in control of your life, the fact that our founding Fathers made sure to say the right to bear arms is a God given right that is inalienable and not to be infringed is what separates America from the rest of the World! It was that freedom that enabled Americans to donate guns to the NRA program designed to send firearms to the allied Countries of Europe so citizens and Freedom fighters had support! As far as I know, not one other Country did that!
Thirdly, New Zealand is putting together a Gun Registration program so they know how many there are and who has them and where. This is needed because, although they demanded they be turned in, they actually have no idea where and how many there are! So that means the estimate of how many firearms are in the Country is a guess. Couple that with figures of how many turned in so far is likely being exaggerated by the Government, and that 4% figure may be double the reality when the deadline is reached. So does that sound like the citizens of New Zealand support this idea? Keep in mind, while this dictate goes out to everyone, it is a given that the people illegally using firearms will not turn theirs in! So you are forcing a program on the populous of law abiding citizens to give up their private property which was obtained through legal commerce, and trying to make it sound fair because you call it a “buy back”. Never mind that you are presuming law abiding citizens will break the law eventually, not having any proof at all that this, if successful, will curb gun violence, never mind the fact you are threatening them with punishment if they don’t, and never mind the fact that they have already come to the conclusion that if only criminals have guns they will become emboldened, and citizens will be defenseless! Now, the officials, the wealthy, and those with “connections” will be able to retain THEIR firearms, or buy protection, but how do you think the average person of New Zealand thinks about complying?

  • ~ Occams September 27, 2019, 12:05 pm

I know most of you are asleep, watching ‘your’ MSM *cuz’ thay’ neva’ lie ta’ mee!), but others, elsewhere, are awake.

From internet American patriot and from a REAL news site, fromthetrenchesworldreport.(com) (be CAREFUL if you visit sites like this. Once you start down the road to truth, you can no longer stay asleep)

    ‘The “gun buy-backs” are coming.

O’Rourke saying “Hell yes, we’re gonna take your AR-15, your AK-47” was just a way of bringing the topic into public debate. He had nothing to lose by saying that, because he wasn’t going to win any elections anyway. (and he also has to do as he’s told)

This is just like Ocasio-Cortez proposing her “Green New Deal”. It was outrageous when she said it, but by making the suggestion, she allowed for others to offer “compromise” solutions that will begin the process of codifying parts of the U.N.’s “Agenda 21” into U.S. law.

The NWO must disarm Americans for their plans to succeed, and they’re not going to stop because 9-11 was the beginning of their “end game” from which they have no retreat. They’d like to see Americans give up their guns peaceably, because that will allow the continued theft of resource wealth, but if the buy-back plan doesn’t work, they’ll move to more violent options. (invasion, internal war, or both)

All off these major societal changes they’re looking to make always begin with someone’s outrageous suggestion that begins the debate, and slowly makes the proposal more acceptable to Americans over time.

O’Rourke’s outrageous claim was just a way of starting the discussion that will be in the news everyday until Americans get used to the idea.~ Jolly Roger, Internet patriot

    • Frankie Ammo September 27, 2019, 1:19 pm

Politicians play that game all the time. They propose something outlandish, like a new billion dollar tax, for example, and then when it turns out to be only a half-billion, they say, “See what we did for you.”

  • Bruce Iglay September 27, 2019, 11:45 am

The bump stocks were a way around having to obtain a permit to own an automatic weapon. If anyone wants a bump stock, they should be required to follow the same procedure as a prospective automatic weapon owner. As for the Prime Minister answering the questions, what about the citizens of New Zealand? I guess they have no say in the matter. The news media in New Zealand has probably become just like our mainstream media—–LIARS. My father-in-law, who grew up during Hitler’s rise, told me all about Hitler’s weapon confiscation. Citizens were told it was for their own protection. The government would protect them. Some experts (?) claimed that more than 3 million people might have not been murdered by Hitler if they had retained possession of their weapons. If our government tries to confiscate our weapons, I am pretty sure there will be another civil war and THAT is something no sane person wants. This is what the Democrats, Liberals, Socialists are aiming for.

    • Winston September 27, 2019, 1:18 pm

No, the bump stocks were not a way around owning an automatic weapon, because the stock is not part of the fire control by legal definition. The disconnector remains intact in the semi-weapon allowing only one hammer drop per pull. You are incorrect. The Nazi government did not take up weapons from German citizens.

      • John Rogers September 27, 2019, 11:16 pm

That is all true. However, Hitler did make it illegal for Jews to possess firearms. That isn’t a whole lot different, from the Jew’s point of view.

    • 10mm September 27, 2019, 2:10 pm

Sorry .. but you got bump stocks confused with belt fed or something else….. Regardless of your opinion… using a bump stock still requires a single trigger pull for a single round to fire. Americans have been modifying everything from cars to computers to run faster…. but that does not make them machine guns…. you sir are part of the problem and the foot in the door the Anti-gunners and Democrats are looking for.

  • Floyd September 27, 2019, 11:25 am

We have a second amendment so we can rise against the government the real reason they want to take it away! Wake up America the COMMUNIST are on the march and the only thing that will stop it is a bullet.

A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined; to which end a uniform and well-digested plan is requisite; and their safety and interest require that they should promote such manufactories as tend to render them independent on others for essential, particularly for military, supplies.”
-John Adams, speech to US Congress January 8, 1790

“Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined…. The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able might have a gun.”
    – Patrick Henry, Speech to the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 5, 1778.

“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.”
    – Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, December 20, 1787

This is not about crime as that stupid woman suggested. This is about government control and eventual socialism and communism forced on the people. . God gives us the right to own and bear arms and idiots like rengal, reagan, bush, clinton obama and yes trump will never take guns from the American people without a fight. The new zealand people must be really stupid to give up their guns. Now their government can do what britain did after they took the guns away from their stupid people, overrun their country with muslim terrorists in an effort to destroy their white population. The reason we have guns is to keep our government from taking over our country and killing us. I am disturbed by her irrational explanation of firearms. Semi auto firearms are not assault weapons. If you want to see a military style weapon then take a look at an m60 machine gun, now that is an assault weapon. Don’t be fooled by ardern, she is a liar and only interested in complete disarmament, then complete control of new zealand and eventual extermination!

New Zealand, turning honest citizens in criminals on December 21, all because they do not want to address the issue of mental health, but instead blame an inanimate object for its abuse. Will there be car “buy backs” when someone gets run over now? What about refrigerators, if a child dies inside an abandoned one? If a dog attacks someone, will they buy up all the dogs?

IMHO, gun control is like climate change. Most of those who believe it and want it are fanatical and seldom open to rational debate. I don’t know about New Zealand, but drunk driving kills a lot more here than murder with a firearm (suicides are intentionally excluded). And rarely do we hear those who claim to be concerned about lives lost to gun violence also express the same about drunk driving.

    • Mauser September 27, 2019, 10:01 am

Don’t worry, they have thought of that and their solution is a mandatory registration system, so when they want to take your property, they know what you have and where to go and get it. Safe storage is also about forcing you to locate your firearms in a known location, etc. Mandatory reporting requirements for theft of a firearm closes the deal and makes, “I lost my guns in a boating accident” one of several felonies you will be guilty of in the future. The end game is 100% licensing of guns, gun owners and mandatory expensive liability insurance, safe storage and other fees. So you will have “Rights”, just like a machine gun owner has rights today. Once the population of gun owners is so low that they represent a small voting block, the “Right” will look like the English Right to Arms, which is now in-fact a privilege for the rich and the powerful only. NEVER GIVE ANOTHER INCH, SAY NO TO ALL NEW GUN LAWS.

  • Chad September 27, 2019, 9:09 am

It’s a little scary. Trump was a life long democrat until his recent conversion and supported the AWB and mag capacity limits until he was in his late 50’s. There are no alternatives out there but he is not one of us. This isn’t chess, if you study his business failures you will see he isn’t much on strategy. I would love to be wrong but I doubt it.

    • Nathan September 27, 2019, 2:45 pm

I try and make these points all the time. This Trump=Good and Obama=Bad mindset isn’t helping. If you objectively look at Trump it’s impossible to know what he stands for. He doesn’t seem to advocate for anyone. It’s strange to see a President that resembles the type of tyrant the 2A was created for, getting so much blind love, just because he has an (R) in front of his name. He only ran that way because it furthered his agenda. If he’d thought it would have gotten him more votes, he would have ran as a Democrat.

      • Ed Eller September 27, 2019, 10:33 am

Ditto! A pit in my stomach.

    • Bob September 27, 2019, 10:41 am

The United States is unique in the respect that ownership of firearms is a right…a constitutional right.
In other countries, ownership is at the whim of the government.
New Zealand, as stated in the article, makes it a crime not to, voluntarily, sell your firearms to the government. On the other hand, law-abiding citizens can own by permit and national registration.
I tend to believe this privilege can be revoked at any time and, with the national registration in place, firearms can easily be confiscated.
This is exactly what the gun control advocates in this country wants and is what will happen if our precious 2nd Amendment is weakened by a change of language or legislated out of the Constitution.

  • Bob September 27, 2019, 8:57 am

If you use Yahoo, and get directed to their news page when you exit email, you can read some really interesting stories from places like Huffington Post and Politics, a couple others focused on anything anti-Trump, 2A, or anything a Conservative thinks. Those ‘news’ services are like the National Enquirer in sensationalism, they will take just one comment, whether factually made or an innuendo, and write a whole story about it like this is the way it is. Trump could have sat down an made a wise crack something like, “Well, tell me how that gun buy back program of yours is doing.” and reporters in New Zealand will take that and run with it. Do you remember Bush 1? What did he do publicly during his second term? He turned on gun owners, tore up his life time NRA card for the press, and we did not vote for him. Clinton got in because of Ross Perot, that was bad, Bush alienated a major block of votes with that display, Trump is not blind to what we mean to him as a base. Maybe he knew if he got rid of bump stocks we would just go back to putting our finger in the belt loop.

  • Jim September 27, 2019, 8:34 am

    Dan,
I have the feeling that he is looking for reasons that it would be a complete failure here in the USA which is would be!

    SeppW,
No, here in the US it IS A RIGHT guaranteed in the US Constitution and the only way to get rid of it is to change the Constitution by adding an Amendment have that new Amendment ratified by 2/3rd of the States! It will NEVER happen. Additionally WHO is going to make sure all the firearms are turned in? The Police aren’t going to do it as they and their families all have firearms. Same for the Military. Then the people are NOT going to give up their firearms either and the criminals certainly won’t turn them in.

    • Rouge1 September 27, 2019, 1:55 pm

Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
    Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria…..alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.
(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady
decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months,
since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home

still thinking about disarming America, if this is not true it is very easy to verify, the chaps name is there, should not be to difficult to track down since he is a police officer.

Can we “Buy Back” our corrupted government and move on?

  • Jim September 27, 2019, 8:16 am

I am sure that President Trump was looking for information that he can use to report that this was a bad idea and should not be done here in the US. I simply will not work and the American people will NOT put up with it. I would take a ratification of the US Constitution to suspend the 2nd Amendment passed by 2/3rds of the States. Additionally who is going to ensure that the weapons are turned in? The Police are not going to enforce it as they and their families all have firearms nd the same goes for the Military. You will have good people fighting with their firearms to prevent them from being confiscated. Additionally you KNOW that the criminals are not about to turn their firearms in. They would love this law to be passed because that means that the innocents will be disarmed and not able to fight back when confronted! NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!

  • srsquidizen September 27, 2019, 8:13 am

So Trumped talked to her, big deal. He talks to lots of foreign leaders about lots of things which “progressives” will try to misconstrue any way they can as we’ve seen the past few days. This is one of their most stupid ploys yet–trying to make 2A supporters think Trump is a gun grabber too in order erode support among some of his most loyal voters. Won’t work. Will backfire on them just like all this impeachment BS. People are sick of it.

    • Ej harbet September 27, 2019, 8:37 am

He’s trolling everyone or he’s the political equivalent of r bud dwyer.I’d bet on the former! Now pass me the popcorn

      • Rouge1 September 27, 2019, 2:03 pm

Like Trump trolled us with his executive order on bumpstocks? I’m one and done with Trump. If arms can be banned by one man or a few hundred Congress scumbags or if you need their permission it’s not a right its a privelege.

        • Nathan September 27, 2019, 2:51 pm

He got away with that because bump stocks are not firearms. They’re an accessory. You could ask him why he did it, but I don’t think he knows why.

      • Nathan September 27, 2019, 3:14 pm

Lol! To be clear, your saying he’s either trolling or he just shot himself in the face? I had to look up Dwyer and that’s what he’s famous for. Just wondering if I’m missing something…happens all the time.

  • The Millionth Counsel September 27, 2019, 8:02 am

She didn’t say whether Trump contacted her only to talk about her gun ban or did she talk to him on other matters. Trump has to know if he implements or endorses a gun buyback type ban his chances for 2020 are gone. If he does that after 2020 Pence’s chances are gone for 2024.
I would like to know what Trump has to say about this alleged discussion.

    • B September 27, 2019, 11:51 am

Pence has no chance at 2020 as I doubt that he will be on the ticket, let alone 2024.

  • King Paris September 27, 2019, 8:00 am

Say what you will, I still trust the president. I don’t think he’s a wussy who would cave to the demands of the enemy leftists. He’s a chess playing business guy and less of a politician, so whatever it may look like he’s doing, it could be diversion or tactic. Have faith. There is NO way that second amendment gun owners in the US would ever give up their weapons without war.
And the left could not handle that.

    • Hardtimez September 27, 2019, 9:26 am

If you still trust this guy after bumpstocks and his words on banning black rifles, you are dumber than a box of rocks

      • Jack September 27, 2019, 10:42 am

Hey, Hardtimez, no need to throw insults to those with whom you do not agree. King Paris stated an opinion without calling out or 2A-shaming anyone. Perhaps consider supporting your side of the discussion with facts instead of name-calling. Again, in your reply to Kevin Cotton, your response is baseless regarding which side he may be on. Take a chill pill, bro. Go to the range, pop off a couple thousand rounds, and let your blood pressure get back down to normal. We who stand whole-heartedly for the Second Amendment must support each other through the free flow of ideas and civilized discourse. Leave the hateful vitriol to the likes of antifa, schiff, and Nadler. Just sayin”……

  • George September 27, 2019, 7:53 am

    Bump stocks NEVER SHOULD
    HAVE BEEN APPROVED PERIOD.
Only existed to make gun owners
    Look bad.
Another example of a few making all look bad in the public eye’s.

    • Kevin Cotton September 27, 2019, 9:23 am

Let us back up a bit. Machine guns should never have been banned in the first place. They weren’t actually banned anyway. Just restricted from all who could not afford to own them. And the Hughe’s Amendment just reinforced that fact and made it next to impossible for the average law-abiding citizen to own one.

    • Hardtimez September 27, 2019, 9:30 am

You sound like the people who say assault rifles shouldn’t be allowed to civillians. Which side are you on?

    • Dixie September 27, 2019, 10:15 am

George, the reason that bumpstocks were legal is simple: they aren’t machineguns as defined by federal statute. 26 U.S Code section 5845 states that a machinegun is, ” any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a SINGLE function of the trigger.” A bumpstock requires that the trigger be pulled once for EVERY shot fired, therefore it isn’t a machinegun. The Technical Division of ATF fully understood that in 2010 when they ruled that bumpstocks are only firearms accessories and NOT machineguns in and of themselves.

The current DOJ ruling banning bumpstocks totally ignores the plain wording of the law and stretches the definition of a single function of the trigger beyond any rational interpretation. I am confident that if the lawsuits (there are several) challenging the bumpstock ban are fully pursued, the ban will be overturned.

Whether to ban bumpstocks or not is something that should have been addressed by Congress. If bumpstocks were to be banned, the law needed to change. Doing the ban via a half-cooked regulation is not the way it should have been done. All that did was provide political cover for members of Congress who didn’t want to go on the record either favoring or opposing a ban.

Think of the consequences If something entirely legal can be banned by regulation rather than law. What happens when an anti-gun administration returns to power someday, as it surely may? Perhaps by some wild stretch of imagination Elizabeth Warren or Kamala Harris is elected President. What will you say when, by executive action, she infringes on rights you care deeply about because she can’t get her political agenda through Congress? That sounds very reminiscent of the way things were done by Stalin, Mao and Hitler doesn’t it? Are you going to be okay with that?

  • Je September 27, 2019, 7:40 am

They’re trying to discourage some of Trump’s base supporters. The 2A folks need to back the president and make their voices known. What’s the alternative? Support the Dems or refuse to support Trump and their by help the dems?

  • Wetzel Boushie September 27, 2019, 7:32 am

The Judicial system in the US SUCKS ! Bleeding heart liberal socialists have taken justice and decided to reform criminals . We need swift justice . A murderer should be executed within a week of being found guilty. Instead so many are released back into society to murder again and the first thing the elected dimwits want to do is to shit on our constitutional rights and take firearms from law abiding citizens ! Come on America ! It’s not the guns it’s the CRIMINALS ! The gun is no more than a tool . I guess cars will be the next tool to go !

  • Jason September 27, 2019, 7:24 am

WAKE up gun owners! Study th past history. If u want your family rounded up a murdered then give them IDIOTS your guns. That will b the Last day of YOUR freedom. That’s a FACT!

  • Freeman September 27, 2019, 7:18 am

  • Jason Coffey September 27, 2019, 6:53 am

Sacrilege!! Frankly I am sick of Trumps shaky ground and wishy washy stances on our 2A! To even give a ignorant neo-liberal like Ardem any credibility at all is just another strike for me. I am a Trump voter but frankly I always worried his NYC views on guns would bleed thru.

  • Anthony Romano September 27, 2019, 6:43 am

I email the POTUS regularly and tell him we want no gun control period ! Everyone should do this constantly. Daily if possible!

    • Jim September 27, 2019, 8:23 am

Outstanding idea! I know in my heart that gun confiscation will NEVER happen here in the USA but letting the President know your feeling always helps him support you. Be respectful and adult when you write to him and maybe he might actually see it!

    • John L September 27, 2019, 1:42 pm

All our reps, including the white house have a phone number. USE it!

  • Dave Diesel September 27, 2019, 5:32 am

What did the owners of the firearms get for their firearms compared to what they paid for them ?
And what about compensation for the ammunition and accessories ?
In the end, the owners will get less than nothing for the firearms as the taxes will go up on everybody to pay for the program.
AND, exactly what happens to all the firearms, ammo and accessories ?
As I see it, you pay for the firearm, then get paid something for it then lose the money in increased taxes.
Now your out the firearm and the money. Jolly good show.

  • SeppW September 26, 2019, 5:48 pm

“Owning a firearm is a privilege not a right,” That’s the difference between us and New Zealand.

    • MagnumOpUS September 27, 2019, 6:56 am

Amen, my fellow patriot and Constitutionalist!

    • Dan September 27, 2019, 7:33 am

That is also just one of the differences between us and all other socialist/communist countries.
The “buy back” scam has not worked in any country stupid enough to try it, so why would Trump even bother to “discuss” it with one of the failure socialist countries? Seems like a waste of time, but politicians are good at that, since they waste a lot of it.

      • Edgardo Hernandez September 27, 2019, 8:32 am

        1. Trump is not a politician
        2. I seriously doubt that Trump made this visit to only talk about “gun buyback”. It probably came up in conversation and this report wants to use that little snippet to skew reality.
        3. there are many real politicians who want to legislate on guns with nothing more than feelings.
        4. Trump listens to as many perspectives as possible before making decisions.
        5. God Bless America and out POTUS

      • JD September 27, 2019, 9:13 am

Gun buybacks do work. For politicians that want to seize more power and control over citizens without fear of a credible resistance. For criminals that want to practice their craft more safely. They just don’t work for people that obey the law and desire to have a say over the governance of their lives.

Corrupt Demonicrats want absolute power, which would give them absolute corruption. The actions of the Obama administration in general and the current Congress’ focus on eliminating their opposition, appear to be a hard push toward that status.

    • Larry W Morrison September 27, 2019, 8:34 am

I would disagree in that Owning a Firearm, or rather having the means for self defense and defense of your family or society (country) against another (including all threats, Foreign or Domestic) wanting to do you harm, or take away your personal freedoms… is a God Given, (inalienable) Right of ALL mankind, and it knows No Borders!

….Our Constitution just Reminds our Government of this. The Kiwis have that same right as we do, not sure if they have anything in writing to warn their government of this, I just hope they fight before they get the means taken from them.
