In response to the tragic shooting of a reporter, cameraman and interviewee, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe seized an opportunity to push background checks.
The governor gave his condolences to the family and friends of reporter Alison Parker, cameraman Adam Ward, and interviewee Vicki Gardner, but quickly shifted gears once the question was raised of what was being done to stop guns getting into the hands of criminals.
“Well, you know, I’ve continued to raise this issue,” said McAuliffe. “Twice I have brought legislation before the general assembly. Twice I have asked that we have [Universal] background checks. Twice now they have rejected background checks in the common wealth. As you know, this year, in the general assembly, I had to veto a piece of legislation that allowed individuals to buy machine guns in the common wealth of Virginia. I had to veto another piece of legislation that allowed folks to carry loaded shotguns in their cars. Now that’s a tragedy. We actually had an incident in the history of Virginia where a state trooper came up on a scene, they were loading the car in the wrecker and the shotgun went off and the state trooper was killed. … I’m a gun owner, I’m a hunter, I go through background checks. It takes five minutes. Hand your license over and run the data. There are individuals in this country who should not be allow to own a firearm. And it’s just, to me, common sense, and it’s just tragic that this kind legislation cannot be passed and signed into law.”
The reporter immediately followed up by asking if the governor knew definitively that the gunman was not a permit a holder and that he had a criminal background and was therefore not allowed to carry a gun.
“I don’t. I don’t. At this stage I don’t.”

Terry McAuliffe: another liberalland nut case attempting to exert power and control over something about which he knows nothing. He was elected by illegals and dead dimocrats….ahhh, the Dimocratic machine at it’s finest. AGAIN! When are we all going to wise up and make voter ID the law of the land?
But Flanagan, the murderer, was subject to a background check when he bought the guns. The check came up with nothing.
This guy is an insane Marxist of the first order. And he looks so normal too.
Why arnt these people who openly come against our constitutional right castigated as anti constitution and anti civil rights? Why arnt they jailed as subversives coming against our constitution? The demacrats have been eroding our rights since their inception.
You know there is really no response to this man. He’s exactly what Virginia wanted I guess. If by that you mean a highly partisan, left wing, Hillary Clinton supporting, inside the beltway elite. How he ever got into the governors mansion legitimately is beyond me. But whatever issues from his mouth isn’t worth considering.
I’d like to know the identity of the so-called reporter who lobbed this softball question for McCauliff to hit out of the park. Didn’t it look suspiciously like a pre-planned, set-up question to anyone else? He wasn’t the least bit unprepared for the question, and his answer looked rehearsed. I’d be willing to bet there was some kind of contact between the two prior to the news conference. It’s certainly nothing new to have the liberal press collude with Democratic politicians, is it?
I doubt this was a set-up question, but McAuliffe knows now that the shooter DID pass a background check. There has been no indication that he was a concealed permit holder. What he doesn’t address, of course, is how you can possibly have put this guy on a list. Unless people, including employers, are willing to seek a warrant and involuntary evaluation asserting the danger someone like him poses — and to risk the potentially lethal wrath of such a person — others like him will continue to be able to buy guns legally. The real question is whether it is worth that risk (of allowing more such sales) to maintain the Second Amendment. I suspect almost everyone here would answer, “Yes.”
Seriously, what does anyone need to know about Terry “the punk” McAuliffe, other than he is the semi-human fecal waste excreted from the combined bowels of Slick-Willy and Hillabeast Clinton.
And we have another one out of the exact same mold but from Maryland who is running for POTUS on the Dem ticket. These turds of misery have to be hatched from some swamp in the Socialist “Repubic” of New Jersey!

There area SO many things wrong with his statements.
1. “what was being done to stop guns getting into the hands of criminals.”? Let’s see….to drive a car, you must pass a written and driving test, have/pay for a license, have/pay for registered, have insurance(which includes a background check of sorts)……..And there are STILL criminals driving them!!……WHAT?!?!?!?! If you violate ANY traffic law, you immediately become a criminal. So, until they install a system that will shut down a car when any violation is committed….same with firearms…..one could argue that criminals will always have cars/guns. So if crime is being committed with these cars/guns, does that mean the background checks still aren’t preventing crime like they are claiming???? Seems to me the only way to eliminate crime is complete confiscation of all guns and automobiles.

And exactly how many crimes are committed with a “machine gun”??? So if crime is being committed with these guns, does that mean the background checks still aren’t preventing crime like they are claiming????

No one did a quick safety check before trying to move the vehicle?? So, again…the background checks, that are supposed to be so effective, didn’t prevent this deadly situation?
Seems like the only alternative, since background checks obviously don’t work, is complete confiscation of anything that may cause harm to anyone to include cars, wreckers, guns….steak knives……and socialist governors/presidents.
