Washington Governor calls NRA, Supporters 'Destructive Force'

‘A Powerful and Destructive Force’

The NRA-ILA has condemned Washington state Governor Jay Inslee after he called the NRA and its supporters a “destructive force” in a recent call to raise support for new gun control measures at home.

“Enough is enough,” said Inslee in his attack email. “Gun violence is a public health crisis in this country, and here in Washington state, we’re going to address this problem—right now.”

“Make no mistake, the NRA and their friends in the gun lobby are a powerful and destructive force,” said Inslee. “We must stand together to demand a reduction in preventable gun violence here in Washington state…That means standing up to the NRA and their high-powered friends.”

In response the NRA-ILA issued this statement saying “The Governor is using law-abiding gun owners as a scapegoat for his failure to provide any practical solutions that would deal with crime and mental health issues in the state of Washington. Current laws do not need to be ‘strengthened,’ but they do need to be enforced.”

Recently Inslee announced his intentions to expand existing state gun control laws through executive orders. “While Congress has failed for years to make progress on reducing gun violence, we are not afraid to take action in Washington state,” said Inslee at a press conference, reports the Seattle Times.

“He intends to double down and use the Obama/Bloomberg playbook to place even further restrictions on the Second Amendment rights of Washingtonians,” said the NRA-ILA.

Inslee has argued for data-driven methods to reduce gun violence and suicides, although some have called it a flawed approached.

Gun rights advocate and Washington resident Alan Gottlieb criticized the governor saying that “he and the gun industry have been working for the past year with suicide-prevention advocates on strategies including safe storage and keeping guns away from criminals and people with mental illness.”

“When he starts mandating through executive action gun-control measures, he’s going to sabotage all the efforts of the past year to lower suicide rates,” said Gottlieb.

  • watchdogman January 23, 2016, 4:41 pm

Maybe a “Occupy Olympia” will be a good start…and include Occupy Seattle while you are at it..Both cities house a plethora of morons and idiots, that is liberals…Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon should succeed from their respective states and form the 51st state…

Did it even occur to those that support these things that they are feel good only laws and will do nothing to stop these incidents from happening?
Similarly, do you not realize that there is no stopping those in power, whomever that is, from taking away more of your rights once you allow them to start?
There are already laws on the books, just enforce them!!! The current administrator, as well as past, has CHOSEN to ignore laws that may have altered some of these incidents, we will never know for sure in some cases while others are certain!
Do your own research and discover just what those laws are and whether you are being told the truth about them.
The gun is an inanimate object and in itself can do no harm, just like a car. Be it a gun, knife, car, bat, drugs, or other items, they are all harmless until a HUMAN uses them inappropriately.
Do you really think that a criminal, the mentally ill or a person determined to do harm will abide by any law? Look at the jails and prisons, every one in there knew they were breaking the law and they did it anyway. The only people being that will abide by these laws are already doing so, they will not provide any more protection and in most cases do more harm than good.

Inslee and the other democrat governors of Washington are elected because the voters in the Puget Sound area vote. The people in Central and Eastern Washington could elect conservatives, if they would only get out and vote. A few cycles back Dino Rossi ran for governor and lost by about 350 votes. 350 votes from people in the eastern part of the state that simply didn’t bother to vote. Then again he ran TV ads that addressed traffic congestion in Puget Sound counties. If you lived in small town Washington he offered nothing of appeal to those voters. That is how uber-liberals like Inslee get elected. WE have too many non-voting ignorant people.

    • Zupglick June 22, 2018, 11:16 am

Hey, I live in one of those small towns. We vote. We just don’t have the population of Puget Sound. Especially when the “Graveyards” votes are tallied.

  • alex January 22, 2016, 11:24 pm

someone should bend the governor over and shove the biggest hair brush they can find up his ass.

  • John W January 22, 2016, 5:06 pm

The hell with him. I’m sick and tired of these liberal assholes labeling conservatives and gun owners as kooks. I’m an NRA Benefactor member and an TSRA Benefactor member. I’m damn proud of it too. Every liberal wants to blame guns for crimes and murders. How about this? Blame the people committing these crimes. Then lock their ass up and leave them in prison. No early release for good behavior or any other reason. By the way LIBERALS my Constitutional rights are NOT up for compromise or discussion.

  • punkinhead January 22, 2016, 12:51 pm

You know what they call Seattle now? Junkie City. They are the next Detroit. Their thought process has nothing to do with reality. Knocking NRA is like diverting attention away from their personal problems.

  • Me January 22, 2016, 12:50 pm

See what happens when you legalize Pot? You get brain dead morons for Politicians…

    • Dave Hicks January 22, 2016, 3:34 pm

You’re right, the problem is they were morons before. Why would anybody but a moron spend millions of dollars to get a job that pays thousands.

  • Kivaari January 22, 2016, 11:42 am

Well, I am sure glad I moved out of Washington state 9 years ago. I’m even happier that the state of Washington sends me a pension check, while I live in Idaho. Idaho is a gun proliferation state that respects the rights of individuals. Inslee is just one more uber-liberal. Washington doesn’t have a gun problem. Seattle and Tacoma might, but they are not the state as a whole. Central and eastern Washington don’t have problems. Even the coastal counties reflect a very low criminal homicide rate. Suicides by guns DO happen. But, suicide by gun fire makes sense where primarily older man without family support use a hunting rifle to end it all. That is an issue of not having suicide prevention services and rural health care active in those counties.
Take away guns, and they find a rope, A jump from a tall structure works. Suicide is a reflection of issues much greater than gun control. Japan has a suicide rate 2.5 times the USA, and they don’t have guns. Switzerland has a suicide rate 2.5 times the USA, and almost every house has a machinegun in the closet. Yet the Swiss don’t use guns. A gun control effort to lower suicides doesn’t lower the rate of suicides, just methods used.
Inslee is still an uber-leftist. Maybe Seattle needs to become its own little state and leave the rest of the people unmolested.
Or like the new universal background check law in Washington, the people ignore it and sheriff’s wont enforce it. Common sense prevails outside of Olympia and Seattle.

Ron:NRA ran a recent special for life membership for $500…but it is NORMALLY $1,000. Not exactly pocket cash for most people these days.

    • Greg January 22, 2016, 4:36 pm

You do not have to pay at one time. Call them and they will work with you. I did that.

  • L Dishman January 22, 2016, 10:59 am

Drug users and dealers are MUCH more destructive…as are drunks and drunk drivers ….

    • Steven January 22, 2016, 11:29 am

Lawyers and politicians are even more destructive.

  • Tripwire January 22, 2016, 10:51 am

I’ve never understood how it is that the NRA is some supposed huge force, to the best of my memory the NRA has never had more then what? 5 million members? out of 80 million gun owners that’s nothing, IF we gun owners ever really got together and flexed our muscles the libs would truly be terrified.
But we don’t because as a rule gun owners are hard working citizens who don’t have the time to travel to DC to be seen in some million mom style march and we don’t seem to have the funds or inclination to board buses and be shuttled in like the non working Demo voting masses. That and the fact that DC sits in the middle of a huge mass of Demo entitlement voters who don’t need to be at work every day.
Gun owners are being pushed from a small number of states but these states are Lib strongholds, and not all gun owners can just quit their job and move to a gun friendly state, but in the end we all might have to do just that.
The silly Lib fools calling for gun confiscation aren’t the ones who will have to try to enforce that effort and it will lead to a lot of deaths of both LEO’s who are forgetting their oath of office and citizens who haven’t.
We are in for a really bad fight, I see it coming, I’ve watched it coming since JFK was killed and it’s getting closer.\
I have never understood why the gun company’s or any company that is involved in guns stay’s in states that are anti-gun, I’ve heard that Oklahoma has made some really good offers to gun company’s to move there, I’d rather spend my money supporting a company that isn’t paying taxes to a state that’s trying to put them out of business.

Unfortunately, we have a few nuts that take over a federal building in Oregon. The few people that pay attention to the news, rarely a huge number of people, see “gun owners” portrayed by “The Bundy Bunch” and “Patriots”. We sensible gun owners, get a permanent black mark because of the false patriots.
We had/have two armed militia events in the last 2 years involving Bundy. Had Bundy’s first grazing lands case ben handled properly, they would have been ignored. When it first started it was a celebrated event showing federal abuse. Then the truth pokes its head into the news, and we find Bundy and his supporters were white power pukes. We had photographs shown world wide with “patriot snipers” aiming at federal forces. Even if the images were altered or set up to appear like they were targeting federals officers, the world saw it as one more case of gun owner insanity. Now in Oregon they took over a building. Stole two trucks, ruined a ranchers fence and further hurt our image.
We have many more sensible gun owners that know how to get action without hurting our cause. The sensible gun owners tend to be the best part of society. But, what is shown on the news? Well it is gun nuts, and that’s not in the good sense of the words.

      • Dwane January 23, 2016, 11:35 am

Kivarri – Think about it – The Hammonds served their time in prison for a conviction. The Federal judge just sent them back to jail to serve more time after they were out. How would you handle the situation if you were the Hammonds? Have you contacted the Judge to see why he sent the two back to jail and tell him enough is enough? I bet not. How will you get the bureaucrats to listen when they ignore you? It’s like the IRS. I’ve talked to people who try to converse with that organization but the IRS will NOT reply. A Congressman’s aide did so for a friend of mine. The IRS would not call back until the Congressman got involved. The fraud letter sent to my friend by the IRS was rescinded with NO apology. It’s come down to drastic measures to get bureaucrats attention.

        • Kivaari January 23, 2016, 1:51 pm

The Hammond’s were screwed over by the appellate court. That injustice happened. These nuts took over a federal building to protest the injustice. Yet, the Hammond’s said they do not support the takeover. Wouldn’t it make more sense to protest outside the nearest federal building? Wouldn’t it be better to go to county commission meetings and see about support to gain custody of the lands? To follow Bundy into an illegal takeover, vehicle theft and vandalism isn’t doing anything to promote the transfer of federal lands to local control, nothing to do to get the Hammonds out of prison. These men and women could have shown up at the local offices of the state and federal legislators. Going in as an armed militia is destructive to our cause. People protesting in downtown Portland out side the federal courthouse would have made a more positive display of what is wrong. I belonged to a group where they started asking if I would kill government agents that were doing “wrong”. Good god, we have courts and voting booths.

  • Charles Bailey January 22, 2016, 10:51 am

The governor is absolutely right and NRA, with our support, will continue to destroy all efforts to destroy the second amendment.

  • workedincolorado January 22, 2016, 10:27 am

why don’t you guys try to recall this lunatic? it worked in Colorado. Unfortunately you live in a state with a lot of looneys who don’t understand that

  • D-Dog13 January 22, 2016, 10:11 am

I may sound harsh but my way of dealing with these states is by boycotting travel to them and not purchasing any products
produced in them. I will only purchase firearms related products from these states and as a business owner I no longer buy
    equipment from them either.
If you want to trample on my constitutional rights there is a price to pay. I will never allow it to go unpunished!

    • Tripwire January 22, 2016, 10:53 am

      I agree 100%

      • Dave Hicks January 22, 2016, 3:30 pm

I agree also. Hit them in the pocket book.

    • Edward January 22, 2016, 6:31 pm

I agree!!! I refuse to travel to or through any of these states run by these morons. I do not give online merchants from these states any of my money. I was glad to here so many gun manufacturers are leaving the Northeast states run by dictators. I will drive around these states so that I do NOT give them any state taxes to further their illegal causes.

  • RepubRick January 22, 2016, 9:51 am

The only “destructive force” in Washington state is this communist, lawless governor in Olympia. He, like ObaMao, chooses which laws he will enforce. He has decided he will defy the courts and not sign any death warrants to execute the killers on death row because “He” doesn’t believe in the death penalty – of course he failed to mention that during his campaign. But Shit4Brains Inslee swore to uphold ALL of our state laws but like all brainless Democrapic Gruber cretins this blowhard is now attacking gun ownership. Our saving grace in WA is that our state constitution prohibits him or anyone else from passing any law that is more restrictive than our constitution.
If I had my way he would be impeached and indicted for his ObaMao lies to get elected.
JAY INSLEE IS A LYING SHITBAG COMMUNIST

  • Mike S. January 22, 2016, 9:47 am

(sigh) more left coast dimwittedness. You know that wall that needs to be built along our southern border? It needs to turn north at the eastern California state boundary and go north along the eastern borders of Oregon and Washington to the Canadian border.

    • Ed January 22, 2016, 11:40 am

Can we make that wall through the Sierras, those of us on the East side of the mountains still have a working brain.

  • johnjet6 January 22, 2016, 9:14 am

When are these anti gun idiots going to realize that no law will stop crime. Evil exists, period. They perpetuate the fantasy that if all guns magically disappeared from the Earth, crime would disappear as well. There was plenty of crime prior to the invention of the gun. And of course the 1000 pound gorilla in the room is the fact that the 2nd amendment had nothing to do with hunting. It was written AND PASSED in the Bill of Rights so we, as American citizens could defend ourselves against the very tyranny these gun grabbers are promoting.

  • Rand Foster January 22, 2016, 9:09 am

Jay is going to take the first step in driving those willing to get help with mental health issues away from what they need because asking for help will put people on the prohibited list. Tread lightly or the unexpected outcome will bite everyone on the ass.

  • Chad J. January 22, 2016, 9:00 am

The very people who are trying to DESTROY the Bill of Rights calling the NRA a destructive force. It would be so funny if these clueless clowns weren’t as dangerous as they are. smh

  • Mike T. January 22, 2016, 8:49 am

Unfortunately most gun owners still don’t get that the NRA is the only group standing between them and the government disarming America. Look what 5 million members can do, if we had 20 million members politicians would help clean our guns.

  • David January 22, 2016, 7:45 am

So when are they idiot politicians going to realize that congress can’t fix gun violence, they think its like waving a magic wand or something. The violence has to be fixed at the local level by enforcing the local, state and federal laws that would lock up these felons who use guns for the wrong reason. STOP creating more BS laws that do nothing more than affect LAW ABIDING citizens and start going after the criminals that break the laws.

  • Allen Dean Benge January 22, 2016, 7:39 am

Jay Inslee is a total idiot who should never have been elected, What other governor would have the temerity to fly a Viet Cong flag over our state capitol? He is one of the modern generation of politician who is going to make his decisions based not on the desires of the citizens of this great state, but by his own opinions and wishes. If I have anything to say about it, Inslee will never be re-elected, HE is the disrupting influence.

  • RetNavet January 22, 2016, 7:04 am

Gee, my feelings are really hurt…Jay Inslee called me a “destructive force”. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but I’ll never give my guns to Inslee

  • Ken January 22, 2016, 6:04 am

Single term Inslee has taken a hard stand against crime in Washington State. He has declared a moratorium on carrying out the death penalty and has been Chief Executive during the unauthorized early release of thousands of convicts. What a guy. Now in addition to the moniker of “potential terrorist” that the Oloser administration has put on me because I am a honorably discharged Army veteran, I am also a “destructive force” because I am a Life Member of the NRA.
Well Jay good buddy, I for one will do everything in my power to ensure that you have to pack your bags and move the hell out of Olympia this November.
The progressives whine about how polarized politics has become in this country. Amazing.

  • taxx73 January 20, 2016, 12:20 pm

Well I guess that it’s true that you can’t fix the delusional. I am not an NRA member but I do agree with the organizations goals. I have always known that Obama considers me as a threat to the government because I am a white adult male gun owner that doesn’t believe in the PC BS. I will continue to do what I can to ensure that my family and friends are as safe as I can make it. Get out and vote! Tell the libtards to go to hell. LEAVE OUR RIGHTS ALONE!!!!!!

    • Tom Horn January 20, 2016, 5:37 pm

…and join the NRA, and your state firearms associations, as they are the only ones on the front lines fighting for our 2nd Amendment Rights. It’s cheap, easy to do, but an effective way to protect your rights:
      https://membership.nrahq.org/5245/default.aspx?src=camo&ek=Y5AJ102P&gclid=CLf-gfG5ucoCFYGDaQodScUMHw

    • Ron January 22, 2016, 9:46 am

Well, then why the Hell AREN’T you an NRA member? If you agree with them/us, then get with the program and add your voice to the growing chorus.
I got a life membership for less than the cost of an inexpensive carry pistol. And it’ll probably do more to protect me than that pistol would have, since I have another one, and thanks to the work of the NRA, and GOA, Illinois State Rifle Assoc. and others, I can finally carry one here in the People’s Republic of Illinois (with ridiculous exceptions, but they’re working on those.)
Drop the excuses, and join the NRA! Put a little money where your heart (and mouth) are.

    • shootbrownelk January 22, 2016, 9:46 am

Taxx73, you’re NOT an NRA member? The fact is, that if not for the NRA standing-up to the Democratic Gun-Grabbers you and I wouldn’t have guns today. If you want to keep your guns you had better wise-up. Over-the-Hillary is just waiting to take over when O/Bummer and Buckshot Biden leave office… right after “feel-em-up” Biden cures cancer.

    • Chemiker January 22, 2016, 2:10 pm

Yes, the NRA is a bit more moderate than I like, but it has kept our rights from the crooked politicians. JOIN!

The leftist politicians understand quite well that gun control is about control, not about guns, and that the criminals will have guns. The French, Germans, and Brits cannot fight back. We still can.

JOIN the NRA. Don’t complain; do something.
