Last Saturday 25-year-old Marcus Gould and 20-year-old Leon Roberson attempted to rob a pawn shop in Springdale, Arkansas. However, their plan was foiled when one of the owners of C & S Gun and Pawn pulled out her .38 caliber revolver and opened fire.
Shirley Cornett, 74, was the one who drew down on the suspect. She fired upon Gould as he was hopping over the counter to confront the other co-owner of the store, Shirley’s husband Clint.
She managed to hit Gould in the arm. He returned fire, but his bullet hit a stack of books before hitting Shirley in the back. Thankfully, the projectile lost enough velocity where it didn’t break the skin.
Gould and Roberson fled the scene. Yet, due to his injury, Roberson dropped Gould off at a local hospital where police arrested him. Roberson returned to the hospital to check on his accomplice and was also arrested.
Now the two men are behind bars, facing charges for Attempted Capital Murder and Aggravated Robbery.
As for Shirley, she was very shaken up after the incident, according to Clint who spoke with 5NEWS off camera. Clint also said that this isn’t the first time his store has been robbed at gunpoint, noting that shots were exchanged during that encounter as well.
“They didn’t get away that easy last time,” said Clint.
