A man was shot and killed at a Las Vegas gun range last month after he tried to rob one of the range patrons and attacked police officers responding to the scene.
The man was shot and killed by one of the responding officers as well as three gun range employees after he started stabbing an officer with a screwdriver. The man had a history of assaulting police officers, according to local media.
“It didn’t seem like they wanted to get involved but when they saw what occurred, that’s when they took action,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Assistant Sheriff Brett Zimmerman said at a press conference, referring to the gun range employees. “Their training and tactics were along the lines of our officers, they saw the same threat, our officer fired and they fired.”
Video from the incident shows Marvon Peyton, Jr., 27, rifling through a bag belonging to a man who was a student at one of the range’s gun classes. Peyton had entered during a class break, and the bag contained the man’s firearm, according to Zimmerman.

The owner of the bag can be seen trying to grab the bag from Peyton, but Peyton pushes him away. The owner then alerts the classroom instructor, who confronts Peyton before the firearm can be stolen. Peyton was then escorted from the room and held by employees outside the range.
Video from outside the range shows two officers arriving at the scene. When they attempt to take Peyton into custody, the man backs away and begins striking at the officers with a screwdriver.
One of the officers goes down, but the other draws his weapon and fires. Four other men draw their handguns and surround Peyton as he attempts to flee, three of whom fired their weapons, according to Zimmerman.
Medical assistance was summoned, but Peyton succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Zimmerman told reporters that Peyton had a history of assaulting police officers. In 2017, he was charged with attempted murder, battery on a protected person, and attempted robbery after he tried to take an officer’s weapon as they were walking into a Walmart.
Despite the heavily armed nature of the employees, gun ranges and gun stores are occasional targets of burglars. In 2017, one armed suspect was shot and killed while trying to rob a gun store in Georgia. That same year, another man was shot and killed while trying to rob a gun store in Brooklyn using pepper spray and a construction uniform.
No charges are expected for the gun range employees in this most recent incident.

What I find ‘sad’ but even more OFFENDED by..is these senseless but brazen attacks on honest, law-abiding people WITH A MORAL CONSCIENCE who then (could) have to go on through their lives living with the fact that they’ve ended someone’s life. We “all” THINK we could do it, and probably MOST of us could…certainly under the right circumstances, ie family, self-preservation, etc. But an incident like this..who knows(?) Reminds me of a situation in chicago decades ago. Two armed robbers entered a neighborhood bar only to find out the hard way that it was a cop bar! I recall two severe cases of lead poisoning.

A reasonably smart, normal thief getting caught would have been like “oh crap I am sorry I thought it was my bag, I have the same one”. Once outside unless he had warrants being calm and saying it was just a mix up or misunderstanding probably would allowed him to move on to the next theft but instead he is dead. I just believe there was something wrong with this guy/thief. Yep human beings are dangerous and unpredictable. Was that a phillips or flat head screw driver? Honestly I prefer torx and use those to put together all the shipping crates when I am smuggling weapons to the Mexican Cartels.

It happened in Indianapolis, the Gun store Clerk was murdered. The idiot suspect (murderer) then commenced to selling the guns from his trunk on the street, with the store tags still attached.
