Weatherby Bails on California, Moves to Wyoming

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Current Events Industry News Max Slowik SHOT Show 2018 This Week

The SHOT Show season isn’t just about new guns and grand new designs, it’s also about company plans and their futures. This 2018 at SHOT Weatherby, Inc. announced that their time in California has come to an end. Weatherby is moving to Wyoming.

Weatherby is bringing 70 to 90 jobs with them. That may not seem like a lot to California but it should add over $5 million in payrolls to the Cowboy State in the next five years alone.

“We wanted a place where we could retain a great workforce, and where our employees could live an outdoor lifestyle,” said Adam Weatherby, chief executive officer. “We wanted to move to a state where we can grow into our brand. Wyoming means new opportunities. We are not interested in maintaining; we are growing.”

“So, to bring those two things together–an internationally-known manufacturer of outdoor equipment headquartered in Wyoming–it will pay dividends, not only to Sheridan and northeast Wyoming, but this is a project of which the entire state should be proud,” Reese said.

Wyoming’s governor Matt Mead personally helped convince Weatherby to relocate. Wyoming has a much stronger gun culture, friendlier tax structure, and technically skilled workforce.

“From the get go, when we met the governor, he said, ‘Here’s my number, shoot me a text any time,’” Weatherby said. “He responds to our needs quickly, and it shows a business like ours is important to Wyoming and that it’s a big deal here.”

“Wyoming is a great place to do business and is excited to welcome Weatherby to Sheridan,” Mead said. “For over 70 years, Weatherby has been an innovator in firearms design and manufacturing. I thank the Wyoming Business Council, the Sheridan Economic and Education Development Authority and all who helped bring Weatherby, Inc. to Wyoming.”

Weatherby expects to invest about $2 million in infrastructure in the northern city of Sheridan. Sheridan is just south of the Montana border and home to Sheridan College. The college is expanding their machine and tool programs which will provide help Weatherby with a steady workforce.

Hunting for game and for sport is popular in the Rocky Mountain region. Gun ownership for its own sake even more so.

Weatherby isn’t the only company to relocate manufacturing to Wyoming in recent years. Hi-Vis and notably Magpul both moved to the state after Colorado recently enacted unpopular new gun control laws.

Similarly, some of the reason Weatherby decided to leave California is to give the company a different future.

“Our product is the main tool hunters use out in field. They may spend a lifetime trying to draw a tag or save for the hunt of their dreams, and we keep that foremost in our minds when we are building our guns,” Weatherby said. “This is an aspiration product; these are guns that are passed down from generation to generation.”

Back in the 1970’s while I worked at a company in Grantsburg Wi the company offered their employees Weatherby rifles at cost. Because a big insurance company group in Minneapolis Minnesota purchased the Weatherby rifle company when the owner decided to sell. I often wondered about buying one of the offered rifles and regret not buying one back then.

  • Firegriff January 28, 2018, 10:54 am

I bet the fact that Lib California was taxing them to death to buy votes from illegals and passing more and more ineffective gun control laws also played a part in their decision

  • Mr. Sparkles January 27, 2018, 2:24 pm

Congrats to Weatherby and to Wyoming.

And to California, it’s fruits, nuts, flakes and especially it’s legislators,…. next time you are down by the ocean, drop in!!

    • Thomas S Sestito January 28, 2018, 10:28 am

I am a gun owner from Alabama, but the comments from you just throw gasoline on a fire. Why, because they are opposed to your viewpoint on guns, make them flakes, nuts, etc. They are Americans too. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, and just because you disagree, you have to open your mouth and make Weatherby look bad and the country look worse. This disgusting hate of others’ opinion is tearing the country apart!

      • robert January 28, 2018, 4:11 pm

Its not that they hold different opinions that spark hatred and mistrust in those of a more conservative mindset, but that they intend to ram what they think down everyone else’s throats and take away other’s way of life. Sic Semper Tyrannis.

      • Frank January 29, 2018, 12:51 pm

Thomas, There is not a darn thing wrong with stating the truth like Firegriff did about the majority of Californians being fruits and nuts, they make-up the majority that vote in the Moonbeam-nut, gun grabbing leftists and anti self preservationist they deserve. And personally I can tell you because for 50 years I had to put up with their insane crap 24/7 at every turn for 50 years being an EX-Californian myself before moving to a more free State. So I believe that gives me the right to tell you, you can stick your political correctness where the sun don’t shine, I am done being friendly with leftists and their cohorts like you.

      • Alan January 30, 2018, 12:38 pm

Thomas, how long have you been this naïve?
Gas on the fire? You mean, the fire THEY started to burn us out of our Natural rights?
The fire THEY keep building by insulting us (“basket of deplorables”), (“clinging to their guns and religion”) and by making us out to be supremists and close minded?
As to the claim of “Americans too” Thomas, I can make a VERY solid case that in fact they AREN’T as ‘American’ as you think them to be.
TRUE Americans DON’T trample on the rights of citizens in favor of illegals, nor attempt to silence the Organizations that are those true Americans spokes people.
You haven’t been paying attention Thomas, it was THEY who ‘took off the gloves’ LONG ago, and started us all down this path of animosity.
Their crown jewel of a POTUS actually stated that the Constitution was interfering with his “vision” of America, or did you miss that?
Tearing the country apart? Read some Jefferson, Thomas. You will discover that He believed that sometimes, that’s what needs to happen.
If we “look bad” to the Left, who cares? Because they don’t. They hate us, plain and simple. No matter how nice you are to them.

    • Kirk Turner January 29, 2018, 3:29 pm

I spend the first half of my life in California and the second half in North Carolina. What a waste of a State. The rest of the country needs to pick off other medium sized businesses.

  • Jack Cherry January 27, 2018, 12:38 pm

I’ve read through the comments regarding Weatherby’s move to Wyoming, and wish to add my congratulations to Adam for making a fine decision. I’ve been a very pleased Weatherby owner — many rifles — since the early 1960s. My most recent is a Mark V Terramark in 7mm Weatherby Magnum that shoots three-round groups in 4/10ths of an inch territory. I was a bit surprised to see comments from some who think that Mark Vs are made outside of the U.S.A. They’re made right here. The lower-priced Vanguard is made in Japan, as are Lexus automobiles and a lot of other products. I’m personally proud that Weatherby is continuing on, inching toward the century mark. Same family; very personable and approachable, with rugged products of unrivaled beauty and strength. But what would I know about that? My career was with John Deere.

  • JackRussell January 27, 2018, 10:41 am

From a Louisiana boy, living and working and enjoying the conservative political and business climate in Texas, CONGRATULATIONS Wyoming!! And, GOOD ON YOU, Weatherby!! I hope that all parts of this country that hold fast to conservative principles reap the economic and political rewards of stalwart Americanism.

  • Randall Hendersson January 26, 2018, 11:13 pm

I made this point on You Tube.
    Ive hunted Colorado all over,Idaho,Montana,Wyoming.
In each place, Ive talked to outfitters, ranchers,RR people and just regular folks.
The Californians moving into these states are out to destroy these states like they did California. They become politically active at the school level and local level. They get on town boards, zoning, and school boards.
Many of the towns in the above states had 10:00pm curfew laws…..kids in their homes by 10 or the cops see they go home.
Californians reversed these laws…..guess what came to the citizens and townships only months later?
Home burglaries, car theft, car break ins, vandalism on public and private property, graffitti, drugs, garbage cans overturned.
    All from Californians,their fault.
If you dont believe this, perhaps those from these states can enlighten you all.
Keep the pinko, fuzzy thinking, human secularist, hate God,hate America, bleeding heart liberal Demonrat Kalifornians out of your state, tell the whining lerts to go back home to Di Fi, Pelosi,Waxman, Light Feather Brown, Gorilla Harris and,Sodom (LA) and Gomorrah (SF)
Give it back to Mehico…ahora mismo.

    • Jay Pecenka January 28, 2018, 9:51 am

I agree 100%. They leave to run away from the high cost of living, housing and taxation. Then they get on your city councils and damned if they propose the same crap they created and ran away from to begin wother. If you live in a latitude that guarantees foul weather they leave after two maybe three winters if not your community is screwed. Denver Colorado went from a pretty livable metropolis to a rat race full of California cockroaches seeking the green crap. I’m lucky. I’m from Wyo and I’m retiring there.

      • Frank January 29, 2018, 1:08 pm

I wish Weatherby the best to Wyoming! I will have to look them up next time I’m at my local FFL.

Jay, Nevada is currently going through exactly what you guys went through there in Colorado. We are being overrun with Ca. residents fleeing that heck hole, but unfortunately like in your State they did not leave their lefty ideals at the boarder and we are currently transitioning into Ca. number two. Very soon I can see a day coming that we will have to sell our home here and move again farther away from Ca. to yet a another State with like-minded people.

    • Al January 31, 2018, 9:17 am

      We call it “Californication”.

  • Gregory Weinman January 26, 2018, 8:27 pm

CA is slowly squeezing firearms from it’s citizens. Soon, all we’ll be able to purchase is single shot .22LR pistols and rifles. All ammunition, reloading bullets, cartridge cases, and powder must ship to a FFL dealer.

  • tom January 26, 2018, 7:04 pm

Well it’s about time! What in the Sam Hill did they think was going to change in Commiefornia? Great move!

  • Timothy Yorgan January 26, 2018, 6:33 pm

Commiefornia with its arrogant Marxist government should lose all of its companies. Having a belligerent attitude toward any part of the constitution should be a harbinger of what will happen to all of the constitutional guarantees. All the maggots and faggots out there can have what’s left. Here’s an interesting piece of how the law is supposed to work….The general rule is that an unconstitutional statute, though having the form and name of law, is in reality no law, but is wholly void, and ineffective for any purpose; since unconstitutionality dates from the time of its enactment, and not merely from the date of the decision so branding it. An unconstitutional law, in legal contemplation, is as inoperative as if it had never been passed. Such a statute leaves the question that it purports to settle just as it would be had the statute not been enacted.
Since an unconstitutional law is void, the general principles follow that it imposes no duties, confers no rights, creates no office, bestows no power or authority on anyone, affords no protection, and justifies no acts performed under it …
A void act cannot be legally consistent with a valid one. An unconstitutional law cannot operate to supersede any existing valid law. Indeed, insofar as a statute runs counter to the fundamental law of the land, it is superseded thereby.
No one is bound to obey an unconstitutional law and no courts are bound to enforce it. — Sixteenth American Jurisprudence, Second Edition, Section 177

  • Lee Cecil January 26, 2018, 5:26 pm

Great move! Wish that they had selected Utah.

    • Jay Pecenka January 28, 2018, 9:52 am

Go after Browning and get it back to Morgan.

  • LJ January 26, 2018, 4:27 pm

Surprised it took this long …

  • Nick M January 26, 2018, 4:24 pm

It’s about time. Why would anybody that doesn’t worship satan be there?

  • kerry purcell January 26, 2018, 2:40 pm

good idea,, i live in idaho, a pro-gun state,, problem is lots of liberals are now moving here,,,,,gun haters,,,,,lots are from california,,,,,not a good thing for the future,,,,,,,

    • Greg Mitchell January 27, 2018, 3:42 pm

Just make sure you know who you are voting for. Ask the questions that makes them answer yes or no.

  • J January 26, 2018, 2:35 pm

Bought my first ever revolver at Weatherby’s store back in the late 80’s.
Told the rep I wanted a 4″ round butt Smith 357 with adjustable sights in stainless; which they didn’t catalog at the time, and he pulled one out of his on hand stock! Still have it to this day. Although there have been some guns added to its place of residence in the intervening 30 years. Wyoming – You are getting a pretty special new resident.

  • David Johnson January 26, 2018, 1:55 pm

Good move on Weatherbys part. Claifornia, Jerry Brown, .Nancy Pelosi will nit miss them, or even care! California seems to politically have a Death Wish!

    • Greg Mitchell January 27, 2018, 3:44 pm

      Yes it’s called socialism.

  • RustyLugNut January 26, 2018, 12:05 pm

This company bailed on America years ago when they sent the majority of their production overseas.

    • JackRussell January 27, 2018, 10:46 am

Shame on you, RLN. Did you start a gun manufacturing company and find a way to keep it open over those same years? Every company has to make hard choices. Moving production overseas is rarely done without a tremendous amount of consideration for the ramifications. This article is about a company that is building arms for Americans to fulfill our Constitutional rights. This article is not about them moving their operations to El Salvador. This is about an American company that is moving their corporation to a part of the country that believes in Constitutional values and all you can do is nitpick. It is shameful that bitterness is the first resort of some people.

  • DTK January 26, 2018, 11:52 am

I was wondering how much longer Weatherby was going to support an enemy state. California, just like Colorado has bitten the hand that feeds it.

  • Adam Jeppson January 26, 2018, 11:51 am

Smart move for Weatherby and Wyoming. Well done.

  • JOHN T. FOX January 26, 2018, 11:47 am

I WAS UNAWARE THAT WEATHERBY WAS IN CALIFORNIA! SHOULD HAVE LEFT THERE LONG AGO! I PREFER SAVAGE. THEY OUTPERFORM WEATHERBY BOTH ON PERFORMANCE AND PRICE!

    • Chuck in Phoenix January 26, 2018, 2:16 pm

Sure glad you came by to SHOUT that worthless bit of knowledge out to us…
You probably shoot a Ravin or a Glock too huh?

      • Richard Hertz January 26, 2018, 3:46 pm

Bwa ha ha ha. That’s a great reply. Comparing a Savage to a Weatherby is like comparing a turd to a ribeye. !!

    • kerry purcell January 26, 2018, 3:03 pm

did you miss the point of the article ?

    • LJ January 26, 2018, 4:28 pm

      Why are you screaming?!?

    • Mark January 26, 2018, 5:37 pm

You do know that Savage is in another pinko liberal state right? Massachusetts, home of that b1t@h AG Healy.

    • JackRussell January 27, 2018, 10:49 am

Who cares, John. This isn’t an article about what John T. Fox likes to shoot. Learn how to use the Caps Lock on your computer, then practice the art of ‘appreciation’. Weatherby wouldn’t HAVE a company to move to Wyoming if you had the corner on information. You embarrass yourself when you take the opportunity of a company making a major investment in a part of the country that is doing things RIGHT to help drain the swamp of a place that gets everything wrong.

  • Joel January 26, 2018, 11:35 am

My family left ca in 1962 after my junior year in HS after 11 years in the Santa Rose educational system. Talk about a sad exit leaving all my Class of ’63 Vikings behind however, as I look back , I’m glad my Dad moved our family out of that state already sick from liberalism ETC….AND a jerry brown!!!!

  • Jim January 26, 2018, 11:23 am

You think Moonbeam is the problem, wait till Newsom gets in, he’ll make Brown look like Saint.

  • Gary January 26, 2018, 11:18 am

Congratulations to both Weatherby and Wyoming, but hunting is a declining sport and unless that turns around, Weatherby will return to a reseller of modded rifles made by others.

I used to be an avid hunter, but gave up when my state Game and Fish department decided to make more cash by decreasing in-state permits and selling them to out-of-state hunting tourists. Slobs in the field who shoot up signs, leave trash everywhere, and act like drunk frat boys also contributed to ruining the sport.

    • ElkBustet January 26, 2018, 2:09 pm

Hey Gary, what state are you reffereing to?
I have hunted ut of stste in WY MT ID & CO all while residing in CA (sorry… deep family ties) .
I have also witnessed this disregard for the environment from out of staters (love to take a shovel to the head of most of them)
but i usually resort to befriending them, asking where they live, then say i have a lot of money and travel a lot and will make it a point to come and trash their favorite areas in return!
I always get a dumbfounded look and snide remarks but i think i make my point.
      brent

  • Reelman1 January 26, 2018, 10:34 am

CALIFORNIA is not the problem, it’s the city states within. Until that IS CHANGED it will continue to be pervasive throughout our once great county. And, yes, Wyoming will have the problem and front range C-rado has found out.

    • deanbob January 26, 2018, 11:42 am

Indeed, cities are where the most liberal progressives live and congregate. This can be seen on many of the red/blue maps of cities and counties with the states. The proximity within the cities facilitates their anti-liberty, liberal progressive activities.

  • Merlin January 26, 2018, 10:16 am

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!

  • David B January 26, 2018, 10:01 am

    Congratulations Weatherby!!
As a Veteran I feel it’s every American’s duty to stand up for the rights that all Americans enjoy, but as a Veteran I call on my brothers and sisters to stand tall always in these issues. Not just 2nd Amendment rights, but all rights we enjoy, including where we start and operate our businesses.
I have many guns in my collection, none of which at the present time is a Weatherby. Not that Weatherby is not a great gun, but just like the kid that rode on his grandfather’s John Deere tractor, he grows up and buys John Deere.
Today that changes, by the end of the weekend I will own a new Weatherby gun, not because I need it (just ask my wife), but because I want to support a company that makes business decisions to show those in politics that think regulating our lives and businesses to death is a good thing – – – it’s not.
With this I would also ask Weatherby to do its part as well. Another post stated that this is a great first step and I agree, we would request that you announce that all of your manufacturing be done in the United States. Show this country you support us and we will in turn support you.
If you are with me in this type of thinking, I would ask that you support Weatherby in the coming week buy purchasing a Weatherby gun and posting a comment to this string stating what you bought. This action will show Weatherby and other businesses that these type of decisions and hopefully future decisions to bring jobs back to the United States will be met with support from a very, very, very large group of Patriots.
God Bless you, and God Bless the United States of America 🇺🇸

    • JackRussell January 27, 2018, 10:58 am

Nice sentiment, David. But, unless you have a large percentage of your personal net worth in this company, consider that you don’t walk in their shoes. Business decisions, particularly in businesses that are patronized by conservative customer bases don’t make the decision to move manufacturing outside the U.S. lightly. When a company is obviously investing in the right direction, sometimes sticking to acknowledging what they’re getting right for just a moment is in order.

  • JungleCogs January 26, 2018, 9:19 am

Good! Maybe these high-tax, anti-2nd, over regulated and anti-Americanism states residents will finally get the message and start to vote more wisely.

    • Bob January 26, 2018, 10:31 am

Far TOO MANY in Calif. will say GOOD RIDDANCE to Weatherby. I lived in “Mexifornia” for almost 40 years and left 4 years ago….there were 48,000 gangbangers in my county when I left and the Mexican Consulate has several motorhomes that drive around the state helping illegals fill out the paperwork to receive gov’t benefits….not to add high taxes, antigunners, congestion, earthquakes, …and other BS……..GLAD to be gone…!!!!!!

    • deanbob January 26, 2018, 11:48 am

IMHO, a big reason states run by statist. liberal progressives push for all things to support illegal and maximum immigration is to replace the liberty loving patriots who are leaving their states. Of course most big business seems more interested in cheap labor than the welfare of the USA.

      • JackRussell January 27, 2018, 11:03 am

First lesson in economics. Too many surface level conservatives have no idea about the laws of economics. Thus, they have no idea what is involved in maintaining a business in the black. Ideological tirades feel good to those who don’t have multiple millions of dollars on the line every quarter. The difference between viability and insolvency as a business is takes much more than a bumper sticker mentality. It is the LEFT that ruined Detroit and the rust belt by believing that all you have to do is continue to raise prices. Economics. It is a set of LAWS, not a feel-good ideology.

  • DJ January 26, 2018, 9:10 am

A second move would be welcome by myself. Move the manufacture of the guns to the US from Japan and Co.

    • Tom Burnham January 26, 2018, 10:51 am

It is a good start ; But Weatherby can never truly call itself American made until
the actual manufacturing of the firearm takes place in America. That too goes for Browning.
When planning a trip to Kodiak Island to bag a Kodiak Brown, I hesitated to buy a new Weatherby
when I discovered all Weatherbys were now manufactured in Japan. Instead I bought a
sure fire bear killer .375 H&H Winchester. ( about the same thing; just a little less “oomph”
      than a Weatherby .378.
The Bear died on the spot. But I sure wish my weapon of choice would have been an American made
      .378 Weatherby.

      • mauser6863 January 26, 2018, 12:14 pm

Weatherby is getting smart. Because of the recent Trump Tax cuts, you will see a lot of companies bringing their manufacturing back to the U.S. Hopefully Weatherby will do the same.

Browning and Winchester are owned by FN Herstal, which does have manufacturing here in South Carolina. Again, perhaps a good chance they will bring these product lines back to the U.S.A. Guess we will have to wait and see, plus FN may have contracts or tooling issues with the Japanese that delay/prevent this from happening in the short term.

        Fingers Crossed

      • BOhoi January 26, 2018, 12:28 pm

Weatherby rifles have been made in Japan for decades. “Now” manufactured in Japan? Where have you been…
Browning products — the best ones — were made in Belgium.
Your ‘American’ truck is probably made in Canada or Mexico or at the very least has a LOT of parts from other parts of the world. We live in a global economy, and be glad for that. Japan’s steelmaking industry was the world’s best after the US rebuilt it following WW2.

American-made jingoism is fine to a point, but let’s see your US made cell phone, printer, TV, and many, many other products that you rely on every day.

The point is, and should always be, the ongoing war the LIBERALS wage against the US Constitution and the 2nd Amendment. Liberals don’t believe in the 1st Amendment either, which is why they hate the 2nd Amendment. Liberals only believe in “free speech” if it agrees with their viewpoint. Get rid of the 2nd Amendment, and the 1st Amendment is toast; no means to guarantee it. Fight the good fight.

Here’s how you identify a LIBERAL: ask him/her “should you have to pay for my healthcare and college?” If the answer is yes, then you’ve identified a LIBERAL, i.e. somebody who believes that someone else should pay their way. Pathetic.

    • JackRussell January 27, 2018, 11:09 am

This thread is populated by a bunch of naysayers. If you can build a better gun in America, why aren’t you building it? What form of simpleton thought process carps about something that the complainer is not doing better himself? Once you get many multiple millions of dollars of RISK facing YOUR capital, lets see how your decisions are affected. Here is a company that is obviously looking for ways to grow in its viability as a provider of arms in this country. Look at the little rock throwers coming out of the woodwork, virtually none of whom have never built any form of manufacturing enterprise but want to Monday morning quarterback those who do. The mealy-mouthed naysayers on these threads demonstrate that NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED. It is fine to desire for this country to prosper, but, this type of whining is the meaning of ‘cutting your nose off to spite your face’.

  • John January 26, 2018, 9:07 am

Wait, you are missing the boat here, we have the highest percentage of welfare recipients the country, this generates a huge number of jobs, there are 883,000 government employees who run those departments, we have lots of great taxes, lumber tax, paint tax, muscle tax(on boats), additional fuel taxes, cap and trade tax(allows oil companies to pollute in exchange for money), auto registration fees $100 for 12 year old VW beetle, monitor/flat screen tax, battery tax, shipping tax, manufacturing labor tax, tire tax, ammunition tax, gun tax, list goes on. So why would businesses want to leave with all that to offer? I live here because I cannot move my business and I am too old to rebuild my home and 8000 square foot workshop. But I do live in a very rural area and there are no cities in this county.

    • G martim January 26, 2018, 9:31 am

You forgot income tax, their IS NONE Pull your head out before you start running off about something U know nothing about

      • Awesome Bill from Dawsonville January 26, 2018, 11:19 am

I believe that John is currently living in California. I somehow doubt that Wyoming has 883,000 employees running their welfare programs…..

        • Neil January 26, 2018, 2:51 pm

Are there even 883,000 people in WY?

      • BOhoi January 26, 2018, 12:30 pm

Easy, tiger. John is talking about California. Wyoming doesn’t even have 883,000 residents. Pull your head out before overreacting, maybe. 🙂

      • Patrick January 26, 2018, 12:35 pm

Um, California has one of the highest income tax rates in the nation, which is a far cry from none. I believe John was being facetious about the vast number and variety of taxes in California, not Wyoming. Perhaps yours is the head that needs to be pulled out of something?

      • John January 26, 2018, 3:40 pm

I didn’t forget income tax, I said the list goes on. I was list the less known taxes so they wouldn’t stay less known. I did mention that I live here.

  • BOhio January 26, 2018, 9:01 am

If California builds a wall, it will be to keep taxpayers IN — not to keep illegal immigrants out. California is doomed, and we fled the not-so-golden about 2.5 years ago, after talking about it for 10+ years.

We were born/raised there. Grew up in the 60s. But ever since, the liberals and the Democrats have ruined it for those of us who think that the highest state income taxes in the country, among the highest sales taxes, terrible roads and other failing infrastructure, ongoing war against the 2nd Amendment, hideous traffic, an asinine “high speed” rail plan that will be obsolete by the time it is (if ever) built, and a state deficit in excess of $200B, are bad for quality of life and liberty.

Consider this: the SF Bay Bridge suffered a partial failure — as it was designed — in the ’89 earthquake. The section that fell was quickly (for northern California) repaired. For the next 24 years (!!!!) the bridge served as the main artery in and out of SF. But the government overlords deemed a new bridge necessary, which exceeded their budget estimate and timetable by a sickening degree, and the new bridge is defective.

Liberals deplore “Big” oil, “Big” pharma, and “Big” tobacco. Yet they worship something worse than the others put together: “BIG GOVERNMENT”. Liberalism is a mental disorder. Deplorables, get out of California while you can. It’s a lost cause.

Congrats to Weatherby, Toyota, and other companies who realize that California is unfriendly to business and to liberty in general.

I lived in the LA area in the 1970s, before the Great Decline of the State, when I was too young to see the writing on the wall. (Perhaps it was even prior to any writing on the wall at all.) When I visited only 30 years later, I was shocked at how far the destruction had gone! Now, I won’t even visit because I refuse to give them any more of my money to continue the destruction and feed their government’s appetite for evil.

I havent been to commiefornia in years but I still remember the best part of any of those trips was when I was leaving. The most amazing part of California is that it shows the rest of the country what a whole lot of Liberalism can do if you let in and grow to adulthood. The worst part of most Californians that move somewhere else do what to take what they love of home and take it to their new home in another state. Just as immigrants that hate their country and leave always seem to bring what they hate about their country and insist it be where they move. Maybe a anti liberalism test before you can leave the state of commiefornia and spread it across the rest of the country we have enough already.

      • William January 26, 2018, 11:25 am

The liberals infiltrate areas that were once freedom loving states (Colorado) and ruin it for freedom loving
Americans. Chicago dominates the entire state of Illinois, without which the state would be a nice place to live. I have been told that there are one hundred people a day moving to Nashville, TN. That state will soon be governed by liberals.

I could never understand why companies do business in anti-constitutional states. I will not. why does S&W stay where they are. Remington has moved most of their operations out of that bastion of socialism NY.
I do not buy products from companies that do business in socialist states. I will not vacation in those states either.

The old excuse for staying in the North East was valid, that’s where the skilled workers lived. Originally they located there because of water power to run the machines. Later when electricity arrived, they stayed put because of infrastructure and skilled labor.

Today with CNC machines and internet, which gives you the ability to do business from basically anywhere, there is no excuse. A lot of employees would elect to stay in the North East for various reasons, however the ones that moved would find that after selling their expensive homes they could pay cash for a home in Arizona or Wyoming and have change to spare. Lower cost of living, better quality of life and less urban congestion would improve the lives of all who elected to move West.

All of the firearm companies that elect to stay in the North East are doing their employees and shareholders a huge disservice, not to mention the stupidity of supporting states with tax money that don’t support your business and customers.

I was born in San Jose California and was proud to be a Californian. So sad to see it ruined by liberalism. Moved to Arizona in 2000 to escape the high taxes and restrictive gun laws. California has truly become the land of fruits and nuts. Liberals have infested Oregon and Colorado, they spread their poison wherever the settle. Ruger built a new plant in Scottsdale Arizona and wish Weatherby had chosen to relocate here also. Roy Weatherby was one of my childhood idols along with Bill Ruger.

          • Maddog3584 January 26, 2018, 9:29 pm

Liberalism is a disease just like conservatism. Both are responsible for the ills of America.

  • LARRY January 26, 2018, 9:00 am

Welcome but leave California liberalism and other BS in california

  • Marc Morganti January 26, 2018, 8:58 am

I love it when common sense prevails. Congratulations to the leadership at a beloved American Institution. Roy Weatherby is smiling from a better place and Jerry Brown can pound beach sand up his keister.

  • FRANK MURPHY January 26, 2018, 8:55 am

This to me makes great sence Great state and great hunting and a rual state with rual values. The only thing that could of been better if it was West Virginia my state.

  • Mad Mac January 26, 2018, 8:48 am

Weatherby has joined the growing number of companies leaving a forced unionism state to move to a right to work state.

  • Ricky Price January 26, 2018, 8:34 am

    Let Californian drown.

  • Jeffrey L. Frischkorn January 26, 2018, 8:21 am

Will the last rational-thinking person or company leaving California please turn out the lights and bolt the door behind you? The rest of the country will appreciate the gesture.

    • Mitch Barkett January 26, 2018, 8:45 am

      Amen.

    • WVinMN January 26, 2018, 8:57 am

By then, the lights will have gone off a long time ago. It’s hard to generate electricity from GMO/gluten-free, organic kale smoothies fair trade coffee beans.

    • jimsezz January 26, 2018, 9:00 am

AMEN BROTHER! cut off ALL federal monies to these Commies.

      • Rtaylor January 26, 2018, 9:50 am

FYI, California is the 6th largest economy in the world? We contribute more in federal tax dollars than we receive. Unlike Alaska, Wyoming, and Texas who are the recipients of more federal income than they contributed. The lights are not going out anytime soon because people and companies still want clean air, oil free beaches, Starbucks coffee and good kale smoothies. Also to the genius who commented from West Virginia, the word is “rural “, not rual .

        • gandolf January 26, 2018, 11:52 am

You mean was the 6th largest economy. You also contribute more State taxes than you receive. Your State is so in the hole you never will see the light of day. In 2017 California, NY and NJ were the States with the most people leaving the State permanently.

  • Christopher Kennedy January 26, 2018, 8:19 am

Congrats to Weatherby! A great move to a great state. I hope to be able to move there one day… God’s country for sure!

  • Jay January 26, 2018, 8:10 am

I stopped buying anything from commiefornia years ago. I will not support any company or organization that is based in such un-constitutional based States or situations! No money for you!

  • Chaz January 26, 2018, 8:09 am

Leftist liberal Californians are not welcome in this part of the country. Hopefully these Weatherby people are not that type.

    • jimsezz January 26, 2018, 9:03 am

      obviously not.

  • Mike Bolton January 26, 2018, 8:07 am

The commiefornia problem could be solved by the gun and ammo manufacturers if they had balls, but they dont. Wouldnt it be great if gun and ammo makers all got together and said… ok no guns and stupid ammo limits on civilians is unconstitutional, so we are not selling to law enforcement. No bulk deals, no leo discounts, no sales of parts to police armory, just cut them off cold. Let them wallow in their own mess. I also think that it should be illegal for any lawmakers to have armed security. If those fucks want everyone elses guns, they shouldn’t be protected either.

    • JackRussell January 27, 2018, 11:23 am

The impracticality of that is the same as the impracticality of an individual NFL team trying to hold athletes accountable. Another team will just come along and scoop him up. Standing on principle is one thing. Having the rug pulled out from under your business by another business with different values moots the point.

  • Jim January 26, 2018, 8:05 am

Went to Commiefornia in 1992 to build a oil refinery and was accosted by State Bulls, in the construction parking lot, who tried to force me to buy California plates and drivers license before going to work, screw them and all the fruits, nuts, and the welfare wetbacks. In Alaska now and retired. Little Jimmy Fisher-Faster.

  • Michael White January 26, 2018, 7:46 am

I can understand opting to move out of California, but Wyoming? Jeez. There just isn’t a whole lot to do in very, very cold Wyoming. However, in support of a great gun manufacturer, I will buy a gun from them. Thanks Weatherby, for being a great American firearm’s manufacturer. And thanks for moving out of Commie Country!

      • Abnormal January 26, 2018, 9:47 am

I have always wanted to go to Wyoming but refuse to fly and the drive is a long one from north Texas. Some day I will get there and just drive and admire. Weatherby made the right decision to leave CA. It really has gone to pot as did CO.

    • Jim January 26, 2018, 9:29 am

Wyoming has been my home nearly all of my life. You’re right Mike. Don’t come to WYOMING, it’s a cold, windy, snowy, terrible, awful place to live. You wouldn’t like it. DON’T COME HERE! We don’t need or want people who appear to be as you are. We want people who are outdoorsmen and women, love clean air, like to live a little calmer, more quiet, and more congenial lifestyle. Also an outdoor lifestyle that include all sorts of summer and winters sports and activities. Folks who have a great work ethic. This is just a short summation, there are many other reasons, too, of course. Weatherby will fit in just fine here in Wyoming, thank you very much.

      • Shane January 26, 2018, 9:57 am

I once had a very wise man tell me that 90% of the world’s problems come from having too many people… I guess I am grateful for the cold. Helps keep the “problems” down.

Just a hardy Wyoming “WELCOME!” to Weatherby! Make sure to leave any residual “California think” at the border.

      • Wayne January 26, 2018, 11:09 am

I am a south Mississippi boy born and raised,my family has been in my home county since 1812.I left for the Marine Corps, and came back, left for work several times and came back.I spent 3 months in Wyoming, work related,it was like this place used to be .If I could I would move to Wyoming,I would go in a heart beat,God’s country beautiful, some of the best people I have ever met,and there is plenty to do there, unless you are addicted to city life.Smart move Weatherby!

    • Allen Lawson January 26, 2018, 9:58 am

  • joefoam January 26, 2018, 7:44 am

I live in AZ and the influx of Californians into our state to get away from the high cost of living is huge. I just hope that when they pack their bags to leave they forget to bring along the liberal agenda which put them the position they are in now.

    • WVinMN January 26, 2018, 9:02 am

Mark Levin refers to such people as locusts. They destroy their own environment, and then move on and destroy someone else’s. See VA, VT, NH, CO, FL, OR, AZ, and WA state.

      • Abnormal January 26, 2018, 9:57 am

A ton of these people fleeing deep blue states arw coming to Texas and it is freaking a lot of us out. These people come here and tell us “this is how we do it in California” and all we can think of is here it comes now. The pink cars, anti-gun stickers, rosie o’donnell loving, anti Trump scum bags that ruined their own habitat. Only it’s now in my back yard where I moved in order to get away from them. It took 40 years but it’s happening and there is little we can do about it.

        Build That Wall – MAGA

    • S Wharem January 26, 2018, 12:11 pm

The carryover you are worried about is the very thing that doomed NH. All the Massholes, that were tired of MA government and taxes, moved up to NH and unfortunately, brought their lib mentality with them. As a result, they have effectively destroyed the state by voting in the same ilk of politician they had in MA. I closed my business, left and moved to NM last year and I’ll never regret it.

      • JackRussell January 27, 2018, 11:27 am

Best of luck there in NM. NH must have been HORRIBLE if NM is more conservative.

  • JACK MOSKOVITA January 26, 2018, 6:58 am

Weatherby probably don’t want to say the real reason, but I bet my house that they want out of the Democrap Liberazz laws they have there in CA that are not gun friendly. Wyoming is a gun friendly state.

    • John January 26, 2018, 8:06 am

  • Paul January 26, 2018, 6:34 am

Great company! Love all my Weatherby long guns. Everyone who loves the real American life-style should boycott California. Let them implode at the hands of their progressive, pathetic liberal management. Make America Great Again!

  • jack January 26, 2018, 5:32 am

Not just gun companies leaving, many others are bailing out of “Commie-fornia”

  • joe January 26, 2018, 5:21 am

Kommiefornia is where the assholes of the universe decide to make decisions against the Constitution. And the end result is a two tiered system. million dollar fifteen hundred square foot homes to justify the tax and spend protectors of the elite. And the thug culture abounds in the streets of foreign languages. Get out while the gettins good.

  • myers January 26, 2018, 5:07 am

  • Yingjun January 25, 2018, 2:46 pm

Californian here. Flee, I say, get out of this godforsaken land but do, DO NOT, bring your leftist socialist voting patterns with you.

Anyway, that aside, with Weatherby’s departure, I believe that leaves only a handful of gun manufacturers left in this state. There’s Phoenix Arms in Ontario (makers of $150 .22LR/.25ACP Saturday Night Special pocket pistols) and FMK in Placentia (makes $350-$400 Glock clones). Franklin Armory apparently also has a plant somewhere in CA, but their website only has an address for their Minden, Nevada location. Their About Us section says they started in CA and opened the NV location in 2013. I get the feeling Franklin will be the next to bail, followed by FMK (though that one’s a tossup since FMK specifically opened up in CA so that they could be behind enemy lines). I don’t foresee Phoenix going anywhere; I think they’re probably one of the last of the Ring of Fire companies still in business.

    • Christopher Kennedy January 26, 2018, 8:29 am

I like your behind enemy lines comment. My brother moved to Sacramento from Salt Lake City to do the same thing. He’s now a CCW instructor there and runs a shooting range in Elk Grove. There are plenty of believers in the 2nd Amendment there working to change the tide. Carry on noble soldiers!

  • Mark January 25, 2018, 2:43 pm

Good! Why pay high taxes to a Commie state that hates you and your product?

    • Mitch Barkett January 26, 2018, 8:46 am

Good point! Every freedom loving American living in that state should find a way to get out and leave it to the fruits and nuts.
