Woke Oregon Students Walkout to Support Gun-Control Measure 114

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Current Events This Week Uncategorized

Students at Grant High School in Portland, Oregon, hosted a walkout Tuesday in support of a gun-control measure on the ballot this November.

It’s not clear how many of the 100 or so who attended the rally are actually old enough to vote.

Oregon Measure 114, the Changes to Firearm Ownership and Purchase Requirements Initiative, would:

  • require permits issued by local law enforcement to buy a firearm;
  • require photo ID, fingerprints, safety training, criminal background check, and fee payment to apply for a permit; and
  • prohibit manufacturing, importing, purchasing, selling, possessing, using, or transferring ammunition magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds and make violations a class A misdemeanor.

Luke Henderickson, a senior at Grant High School, and a co-president of the Grant School Students For Gun Law Reform club, spoke to KGW8 about the walkout.

“This measure is historic and it’s very important,” said Henderickson. “And it’s time we get something in our Oregon legislation that addresses gun violence head-on like measure 114.”

Brady Winn, another member of the club, added, “I felt like it was really important to do this walkout to send a message like ‘hey, we too want a safe learning environment and we want freedom to walk the streets and not have to worry about guns or getting shot.”

But many who work in law enforcement are not on board with measure 114, including the Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association (OSSA).

“We recognize that we must address firearm violence, but Measure 114 is just not the answer,” said OSSA President Shane Nelson.

“It will move very scarce law-enforcement resources from protecting our communities to doing backgrounds and issuing permits,” said Nelson in a statement on the OSSA YouTube channel.

In other words, instead of spending time putting violent criminals behind bars, law enforcement will have to divert personnel to process gun permits for law-abiding citizens.

Gun-rights groups in the state are also strongly opposed to it.

“Ballot Measure 114 will virtually eliminate your ability to protect yourself and your family. You may not obtain a firearm for your protection without the permission of your local police chief or sheriff,” observed Kevin Starrett, Executive Director of the Oregon Firearms Federation in their voter pamphlet.

“At a time when violent crime is skyrocketing and police are not responding, this measure will have a devastating effect on our poorest communities and put those in high crime areas in even greater jeopardy,” he added.

To state the obvious: Oregonians should vote NO on Measure 114.

Activists and legislators/politicians trying to pass laws that require a permit and or training to purchase a firearm or ammunition need to understand, the 2nd amendment is a Right not a privilege. Our Constitution protects that Right. No law restricting that Right is legal.

Hell will freeze over before I let some underage snot nose little bastards dictate my gun rights and charge me a fee to exercise my CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. Go have your mama change your diaper.

Critical thinking, and within government schools the failure to teach children how to weigh facts and history in making decisions that will last the test of time, plus an active suppression of any thoughts that contradict truth, facts, history, and the Constitution, are part of the “Death by a thousand cuts” philosophy of gun control and all other ‘Control’ centered groups. When these children have been totally brainwashed by the college years and get into politics, the inevitability that these people will destroy freedoms in the US, are cast in stone. I would say a couple years in the military might help them, but even now, it seems all military commands at the upper levels are woke, left wing idiots, that seem to want boot camp to be peaceful, no yelling, don’t get you fingers icky with gun oil, vacation on the Riviera.

I’m sick of politicians writing laws that clearly violate the constitution and scotus decisions.. they should be prosecuted for violating peoples rights and banned from ever holding public office

Let em walk out. They don’t learn anything in school anyways except liberal propaganda and most of them are too stupid to learn anyway.

  • SuperG October 28, 2022, 8:39 am

Any excuse to not learn, is a good excuse! Baa

Excellent point. Care to guess what percentage would march to protect the common house fly? And while it could be important to watch this sort of folly, I recall what an airhead I was at high school age…..knowing everything and accepting anything muttered in feigned genuineness. You could sell a bridge to those kids built solely for demonstrations. In any event, note the source; it’s oregon.

Voting and gun ownership are Constitutional rights. If you put restrictions on owning a gun, the same restrictions need to be applied to cast a vote.

  • Mark N. October 27, 2022, 12:39 am

Sounds to me as if this goes head on into Bruen and will not pass constitutional muster.
Someone should tell these kids that although training is a great idea, the total number of accidental shootings in Oregon is eight in the last 8 years. No amount of training will prevent someone from shooting you on purpose.
Buy a gun from an FFL, you get a criminal background check. Doing the same to get a license to buy a gun is therefore redundant. Why should you have to do this twice to buy one gun?
California has a ten round limit–but there are attacks on that limit now pending. We’ll have to wait and see how those goes.
So this is just more feel good legislation that will accomplish nothing.

Very similar to the licensing law in effect in Massachusetts, not quite as strict as it does not differentiate nor restrict evil black rifles or magazine capacity. The purpose of such a law is simply to impose enough hoops and expense to discourage new gun ownership. The Plan, strangle the gun culture and remove it as a conservative political obstacle to progressives.

Proponents point to Massachusetts low guns crime rate. Bogus comparison. Rates are similar through the rest of Northern New England. It’s culture and demographics, dummy…

Plus the training ain’t gonna be cheap.
Folks with low income like single mothers under threat from their ex aren’t going to have the time or money.

When…not if…this kind of thinking fails…don’t move…keep your problems in your area…don’t spread the stupid…

I suppose they don’t teach American History at that school…

    • SuperG October 28, 2022, 8:40 am

It’s Portland, so they probably teach Leninism and Marxism.
