Everytown for Gun Safety is celebrating a victory this week after Youtube pulled down nine gun-related videos.
Everytown claimed the videos in question depicted users building “ghost guns” in violation of Youtube’s policies and community standards.
The videos had been viewed, collectively, more than 3.4 million times.
“It just got a little bit harder for criminals and extremists to learn how to put together untraceable ghost guns,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, in a press release.
“Now we call on YouTube to build on this momentum, and back up their strong guidelines around ghost gun videos with equally strong moderation and removal practices,” he continued.

“Untraceable ghost guns that can be bought without background checks are fueling gun violence across the country and must be addressed,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action.
“Removing these videos that provided step-by-step guides on how to make these at home is an important first step, but now YouTube must take action to prevent similar videos from being posted going forward,” she insisted.
Everytown’s request for censorship did not stop there.
The anti-gun group is also asking the video-sharing platform to remove an additional five videos that show viewers how to 3D print various gun parts and accessories.
It believes these too, violate Youtube’s guidelines.

This is nibbling at the 2A. Trying to create Death by 1000 cuts on firearms. No criminal is going to bother building a ghost gun to commit a crime. That takes too much time and effort when they can pick a firearm up from the street corner that was stolen.

For me, if it could be Proven that the vast majority of “ghost guns” were actually being built/used in crimes, and few were being possessed by legitimate gun owners, then I might be in favor of regulation. Meanwhile…..

Ok, cost of parts, and tools for so called ghost gun, 5 to 7 hundred dollars. Cost of hot stolen, or used in a crime gun on the street. 2 to 4 hundred dollars. With no wait for shipping or time to finish the tooling and assemble the gun. Do the math.
Most of those involed in criminal activity are not particularly ambitious. Much quicker, easier, and cheaper to just pick up something off the street.
And, I question the ghost gun claim being used for guns with the serial, or identification ground, filed off.
Like the hype about hi capacity magazines, or bump stocks. How often are they actually used in crimes? Likely in the same range of crimes committed with AR or AK type weapons. According to the FBI numbers, around 2% of crimes use such weapons. Media hype and gun grabber drivel.

I can watch youtube videos helping me figure out why my check engine light is on, videos with tips on making fluffier baked potatoes or replacing my faucet – how free should access to information about building weapons be? Try finding the Anarchist’s Cookbook or Poor Man’s James Bond – there is a reason that kind of information is guarded and not just because a lot of it was plain wrong. What responsibilities do these platforms have?
If you think censorship is bad now, wait until they repeal the protections of these websites as publishers. If you really think that reclassifying these tech giants as publishers and not just platforms will allow the freer flow of disinformation, misinformation or dangerous information, then you are awfully short sighted. Not that this is a bad thing – these companies have crowdsourced the curation of information for far too long, to the detriment of our free society.
This is a good thing. Children in schools and streets all across America are that much safer because of the brave stance YouTube has taken on these ghost gun videos.

People I’ve talked to that build those “ghost guns” do so out of concern that the govt. may enact a national gun registry, which might be used to confiscate their firearms. If the gun doesn’t “exist,” they can’t come for it.
In a twist, a criminal might find such a gun desirable for the same reason(untraceable). Likely they’d steal a “ghost gun” rather than spend the time and resources to build one.
So, banning the “ghost guns” to prevent crime, rather than going after the criminals, is EXACTLY the same BS rationale they spout that banning legitimately-owned firearms will stop crimes committed with guns.
I have always wondered what good it is to trace a firearm to a crime. Unless the criminal was so stupid to use a firearm they purchased from an FFL dealer, no trace will catch the criminal or stop a crime. That is after the fact stuff. Having that traceability might return a firearm to a rightful owner, but I don’t think that is what they are thinking. The gun grabbers make such a big deal out of traceability and the need for it to make us all safe. I say balderdash.
