The M91: Serbian Sniper Rifle

Zastava Arms has been in business for 165 years. And thanks to Zastava Arms USA, a number of their guns are imported for us here in the states. One of their new offerings is the M91 Sniper Rifle.

In simple terms, it is a scaled-up Kalashnikov made to accept the larger 7.62x54R cartridge, commonly found in PKM machine guns. It is used as the sniper rifle for the Serbian Military and is now available for you here in the US. The M91 comes complete with the POSP 4×24 Rifle Scope and mount, two (10) round magazines, and a sling.

The POSP 4×24 Rifle Scope comes mounted on the M91, adjustable for windage and elevation.

The rifle itself features a 24″ cold hammer-forged barrel that is chrome-lined for durability. The muzzle is threaded 14×1 left hand, and has a thread protector tac welded for import compliance. This allows you to grind off the weld, remove the thread protector, and put on any muzzle device or suppressor.

The M91 also features a three-position gas tube. The lowest setting is perfect for shooting suppressed while the middle setting is a good all-around setting for most shootings. Then, should the gun be extremely dirty or in harsh cold environments, you can turn it to the last position, ensuring reliability regardless of conditions.

I’d take that $3500 and better put it toward a Serbu BFG-50A @ $7700. Only downside is a 3-year wait.

Much as I like the m91
I agree! Mr serbu’s gun is superior and nothing says FAFO
      like 50bmg

$3500?! LOL, not MY money. I set-up my Springfield M1A for long-range shots for less than half that price. Bet it’ll shoot rings around that Zastava. But, I must say after owning a Zastava AK, they Do make a good gun.

I presume this is the weapon (or a close relative to) the sniper rifles used “successfully” by the Serbian military to enforce the siege of Sarajevo, the longest siege of a capital city in history, lasting 1,425 days and accounting for over 30,000 deaths, including almost 5500 civilians. I think I’ll save my money for something with a less inglorious history.

$3500 for this Russian POS……I’d rather use the $3500 to light a Cuban cigar!!!

Weird, but I always considered the ‘M91’ to be the bolt action Moisin-Nagant, and this rifle to be a Druganov (spelling?).
Not important, and not of much personal interest, especially at $3500. I would rather have an AR-10, and I could probably get one and a case of ammo (plus a bunch of magazines) for that price.

    lol rich mans PSL

I have owned the Russian version in 308, while I loved the way it shot, it was a bit on the heavy side with wood furniture. I also considered buying one in 8MM but the price went over a thousand and far better rifles are available for that price.

I dig it. I like the design variance from the Dragunov and the rifles legacy both within and without the Former Yugoslavia.

Though, for the money, I’d prefer a laminate-wood stock set as an M-76. I’d also like to confirm the reticle.

In any case, I’ll be watching for one at the right price down the road.

I wonder how long for a .308. I don’t want one in .308 but am curious.
    Todd.

Zastava did make the M77 in .308 Winchester and I paid $700 brand new several years back from Classic Firearms, then sold it a month ago still unfired for almost double to an online gun buying website. The factory stock was not very comfortable, but otherwise the gun was very well made and I’ve seen online how people have modified them into a decent mid range, semi automatic, scoped rifle. Search it on the internet.

    $3400 DOLLARS ???

Think I’ll just get a scope for my Mosin…

This is a very interesting rifle, but you really have to want this rifle to pay $3500 for it. Zastava sells regular AK’s for around $1000. A larger AK for 3.5x that price seems pricey. I’m sure there will be enough people willing to pay it, so the price will never come down.
