.5 MOA Accuracy Guaranteed! The Ritter & Stark SLX - SHOT Show 2018

The Ritter & Stark SLX chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. During Range Day I shot the SLX rifle off of an Accu-tac bipod. The Accu-tac is built like a tank and is one of my favorite bipods.

Adapting to the needs of the American market, Ritter & Stark, an Austria arms company, debuted their SLX Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor.

The SLX is a short action multi-caliber rifle that allows end users to quickly change out their barrel with common tools. Before the 2018 SHOT Show, the rifle was only available in .308 Winchester.

During the 2018 SHOT Show Range Day, I had the pleasure getting to shoot the Ritter & Stark SLX. The trigger on the SLX was phenomenal, and I loved the fact that the comb and butt plate could be adjusted without tools. I had no problems hitting the 980-yard target with the 6.5 Creedmoor, and spotting the impact.

The SLX feeds from SR-25/Ar-10 magazines. The SLX that was available during Range Day fed perfectly from inexpensive Magpul AICS Short action magazines.

A key feature of Ritter & Stark rifles is the barrel. The rifling in the barrels are made in a CNC controlled electrochemical machine which reduces mechanical stress, and according to Ritter & Stark, produces a barrel with a longer lifespan.

Ritter & Stark guarantee these rifles to be capable of .5 MOA accuracy. The MSRP of the SLX is $3,635, which at first would appear to be expensive, but when compared to similar European rifles is pretty reasonable. If you want to purchase an additional barrel, it is $1,300.

I appreciate the fact that Ritter & Stark designed the SLX to work with magazines commonly found in the US market.

If you are looking for a large action rifle, I would take a strong look at the SLX’s big brother the SX-1. The SX-1 has a modular receiver, that can be configured for short and long action cartridges. I am currently doing a detailed review of the SX-1, and it should be available in the coming weeks. Ritter & Stark make fantastic rifles, and I strongly recommend them.

The R&S Rifles are impressive and the price is reasonable when you consider the multi-caliber capability. Check out our review of the SX-1 MTR

I just bought a Savage Axis in 6.5 Creedmore, $350 , $250 after $100 holiday rebate. I put it in a MDT LSS chassis $400, added an AR stock and grips of my choice. It’s shooting 1/2 MOA, it’s not unusual to put two bullets in the same hole. I’m using the stock adjustable trigger it came with. You can pay more, but if you are putting bullets in the same hole at 100 yards, it does not matter.

$3600!? OUCH. It may be comparable to other European models in cost but the difference between .5 MOA and 1 MOA for the cost is a little high. More than 2x the Springfield M1A in 6.5 C. With a similar fully adjustable stock it’s less than $1700. The Ruger Precision Rifle is only $1400 in 6.5 C. Either way at 1 MOA will sufficiently address the target. The additional barrel life would have to be huge to make the cost difference and most shooters will never hit that limit.
