J.P. Sauer & Sohn, sn6364, Year C1920, 8mm Mauser, 7lb 4oz, LOP 14 1/8"
This Mauser actioned Sporter bears all the characteristics of a J.P. Sauer & Sohn hunting rifle manufactured in the first decades of the twentieth century. The Mauser supplied action has matching numbers throughout with the bolt handle numbered 3029 and the bolt catch, flag safety and sear assembly serial numbered 29. The Action and barrel have serial number 6364 and bear Nitro proof mark N with Crown. The stippled chamber is marked St.m.G and is proofed for steel-jacketed bullets, it is un tapped and is chambered for the readily available 8mm Mauser cartridge. The barrel is octogen in profile before transitioning to round at the Schnabel type forend. It has an integrated rib which is matted for its whole length and sports a rear express sight and a ramped front sight blade. The manufacturers label on the rib is blank. The stock is in very fine shape with some light handling marks, checkering at the wrist is still sharp and defined, the stock shows some fiddleback and is nicely figured, it is capped with a horn buttpad and has a teardrop cheek piece with shadow line and a cross pin fastener. Factory sling swivels are provided with the forward swivel mounted on a barrel band. The trigger guard and box magazine are machined from a single block of steel, and was serial numbered 53029 by Mauser, the magazine has a Lever floor plate release. The mechanics are in perfect working order and the bore is excellent with mirror bright, sharp rifling. The extractor claw, magazine lever and bolt catch retain a beautiful Nitre blue while the Action has 99% factory case color remaining. The rifle has a very nice adjustable set trigger breaking cleanly at 9.5lb and 2lb on the set. This well-balanced rifle feels lighter than its 7lb 4oz, it is quick and handy, and exudes quality, a stylish addition to any collection. Thanks for looking!
