‘Avatar’ Director James Cameron Regrets Gunplay in Past Films, Happy to Live in New Zealand Where ‘Assault Weapons’ Are Banned

James Cameron regrets the extent to which he used gunplay in his past films.

Cameron spoke about his change of heart on the matter in a recent interview with Esquire Middle East.

“I look back on some films that I’ve made, and I don’t know if I would want to make that film now. I don’t know if I would want to fetishize the gun, like I did on a couple of Terminator movies 30+ years ago, in our current world,” said the legendary movie director.

“What’s happening with guns in our society turns my stomach,” he continued. “I’m happy to be living in New Zealand where they just banned all assault rifles two weeks after that horrific mosque shooting a couple of years ago,”

Along with “Terminator,” Cameron’s directed other box-office hits including: “Aliens,” “The Abyss,” “True Lies,” “Titanic,” and “Avatar.”

His new movie, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” is playing at movie theaters now.  Cameron said that while editing the film, he made a conscious effort to remove scenes depicting firearms.

“I actually cut about 10 minutes of the movie targeting gunplay action. I wanted to get rid of some of the ugliness, to find a balance between light and dark. You have to have conflict, of course. Violence and action are the same thing, depending on how you look at it. This is the dilemma of every action filmmaker, and I’m known as an action filmmaker,” Cameron explained.

It’s worth noting that violent crime and property crime have declined since the ’80s and ‘90s when Cameron was making his foray into the movie business.

Back then, gun control laws were far more stringent at both the state and federal levels. Yet, our country was more violent.

Cameron’s “stomach-turning” implication that “gun violence” is more of a threat today than it was back then is a myth. As too is his notion that banning black rifles, vis a vis New Zealand, increases public safety.

We have far more permissive gun laws today and crime remains well below what we witnessed a few decades ago.

To put things in perspective, half the states in this country now have Constitutional carry laws on the books and there are more than 24 million modern sporting rifles in circulation.

Never before have so many Americans been free to carry concealed handguns outside the home or own any number of semiautomatic firearms.

Turns out that the consequence of millions of responsibly armed Americans exercising their 2A rights is not a more dangerous society. It’s a safer one.

New Zealand is another country which is on China’s must-have-in-the-future list. Just as Canada is on Russia’s list. China’s expansionist activities in the sea, and Russia’s in the Arctic, both are a part of their long-term end games. Some day, it will be only us and a few other nations, against a totalitarian world. Disarmament of every other country, is a part of every totalitarian regime’s world view and active extended policy. Just saying.

I am also glad Mr. Cameron resides in N.Z.
That sort of thinking belongs there , and should be kept there .
I do not recall casting a ballot for him to be arbitrator of the world’s policies .

Just another hypocritical, Hollywood elitest. Made his money with violent movies, now can afford to be holier than thou. Will never pay to see his work again. What a putz.

I watched the Avatar trailer. I see multiple times a bow and arrow is being pointed at something. I am glad it is not a firearm that could harm somebody. After all a bow and arrow does not kill anybody. Right?

OK, James Cameron said this: “We have far more permissive gun laws today and crime remains well below what we witnessed a few decades ago.”

That’s a fact he acknowledges, he does not condemn it.

James Cameron Said: “To put things in perspective, half the states in this country now have Constitutional carry laws on the books and there are more than 24 million modern sporting rifles in circulation.”

That’s a fact he acknowledges, he does not condemn it. By sporting rifles he means AR Types included.

James Cameron Said: “Never before have so many Americans been free to carry concealed handguns outside the home or own any number of semiautomatic firearms.”

That’s another fact he acknowledges, he does not condemn it.

James Cameron Said: “Turns out that the consequence of millions of responsibly armed Americans exercising their 2A rights is not a more dangerous society. It’s a safer one.”

What he is saying here is that RESPONSIBLY ARMED AMERICANS EXERCISING 2A RIGHTS MAKES AMERICA SAFER!

I’m cool with his conclusions, they are true, and they are “Pro-carry” “Pro 2A Viewpoints”

He’s a mythical film maker and lives in a mythical bubble with blue fairies. Citing facts and reality to him is a waste of time. He now lives in New Zealand, a country of less than 5 million, about the size of a large US city, where I’m sure all the criminals gave up their guns on demand and are following the law and not smuggling in new ones. Just drugs!

One more thing, I like the way he is virtue signaling to the entire Muslim world whom he hopes will pay to go see his movie by mentioning how horrified he is by the Mosque shooting in NZ. He’s not dumb, that’s for sure.

If soyboy James Cameron wants to be anti-gun maybe he should give up his millions he earned from his previous movies that included guns. We know he won’t do that b/c most lefties are hypocrites and degenerates.

Irony in that he doesn’t see himself as part of the darkness.
