BJ Baldwin of Baldwin Motorsports has been cooperating with police after getting into a gunfight with an armed assailant. His attacker was killed in what police say was a justified self-defense shooting, according to KSNV News.

Baldwin and his girlfriend were having a meal in the parking lot of a local In-N-Out Burger when the couple was approached by two men. One of the men drew a gun on Baldwin’s girlfriend and opened fire.

Baldwin, who has a concealed-carry permit and was armed, returned fire while his girlfriend took cover. Police say at least 15 shots were fired in the ensuing shootout.

The other man fled the scene. Baldwin and his girlfriend also left the area and called the police when they got to safety.

The police “informed us that BJ acted in self-defense and that they have determined that it was a justifiable homicide,” Baldwin Motorsports said.

Since the attack, Baldwin has taken to social media to reach out to his supporters.

“I love and appreciate you guys so much and it really shows that you care about me and my well being, that you care about Tori and her well being,” reports TMR. “My respect for those of you who have reached out just went through the roof and I definitely feel loved.”

Baldwin says he doesn’t hold a grudge against the man who attacked them.

“This person that I got into a gunfight with, his name is Joey and he’s not a bad person,” said Baldwin. “He just got caught up doing some bad stuff and I happened to be in his line of fire.”

“Think about that, okay. Somebody comes up to my girlfriend and putting a gun to my face, with no demands with what appeared to be the intent to kill, murder, rob. He has my respect.”

(Instagram pic below is Tori Nonaka, BJ’s girlfriend. She is an avid shooter and a former brand ambassador for Glock.)

“Because even though he did what he did to me. Put my life in danger, put my girlfriend’s life in danger, put a gun in my face, threatening deadly force, I’ve done a little bit of research, this guy probably had to do what he had to do and I don’t hate him for that.”

“I can appreciate him for that and I can respect that. I don’t think he’s a bad person for doing what he did. I don’t hate him, I don’t hold any grudges towards him, even though he tried to kill me, even though he tried to kill Tori, I don’t hold any grudges whatsoever.”

“Now, let this be a lesson to you all. If I can see the good in somebody that just tried to kill me and my girlfriend a few days ago, you should be able to see the good in anyone,” he said.

To his attacker’s survivors, he also had a message.

“I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this … I needed to get home to my family and I will always fight to the death to make sure that happens, not out of hate, but out of love,” he added.

It’s astounding that this has been ruled a justifiable homicide and no charges have been filed. Perhaps someone should perform a drug screen on Tori Nonaka to ascertain if she is still an opioid addict. This was clearly a hit on Tori. There was no robbery demand (according the Baldwin’s account of the incident). They just walked up, had the weapon pointed at this wisp of a girl, and opened fire? Why??? Yes, Tori is a former pro shooter, but her drug addiction and propensity to lie is also well documented. Is she playing the role of “victim” again? Sounds like she owed someone money for….??? And Baldwin watched this go down when the guy started toward them from 80 yards away? Glad you won the gunfight, pal, but really…why did this happen in the first place? Sounds like you just killed the man with answers. Maybe his pal will shed some light on what you were really doing out in that parking lot. And LVPD? You should be asking more questions. And NRA? Really? An infomercial? You really should do some fact checking about one of the victims here. She likes to put things up her nose…and it’s not her finger.

    • Hawk Daddy May 21, 2020, 11:47 am

Astounding??? Are you f-ing kidding me? These two lowlifes obviously had plans to rob and murder these to citizens minding their own business. Someone starts shooting at you and you don’t think it’s justified to shoot back? You’re obviously some leftist anti-gun pos!
I can tell you they would both be dead right now if he wouldn’t have protected himself and his girlfriend. And look at you trying to discredit his Girlfriend after someone attempted to kill her. You are pathetic!!

    • Tony J May 23, 2020, 7:20 am

I live to hear the weaklings cry over “she’s a drug addict.” Even if she were, she had a right to live. I hate weakness and truly, factcchecker, it should’ve been you in that parking lot. You’re pathetic and just for your comments, since you would also hate Free speech as a libtard, you should be given a life sentence at hard labor. Your life means nothing. You’re a miserable self loathing apologists for scumbags, like yourself. You are what destroys America, while what makes America great is the right to defeat that Freedom. Please, go back to your safe space snowflake. Don’t forget your mask.

This is one of the strangest gun articles that I have ever read.

  • Christopher Sourp May 4, 2020, 8:12 am

What a little wiener that reorter is. A man found “murdered” huh. NO you little pantywaist, he was killed in the act of committing a crime. What a little left wing pu**y.

The girl pictured inside a shooting booth is at Range 702 just off the strip.

I renewed my CCW there, it was a half assed class compared to many others I’ve had.

A few months later after buying a new pistol, I decided to try to give them a shot while getting to know and practice with the new gun.

(Just for reference: I’m a retired Marine, certified expert marksman and competent gun handler with long guns, handguns and shotguns, armorer and, former Marine team shooter, I’ve won numerous pistol competitions since retiring.) Doesn’t make me the worlds gift to anything, but does indicate a level of knowledge, experience and competence.

Upon entering the shooting booth, a staff member was watching as I began to shoot. After the first magazine, I decided the electronic ear pro I was wearing was not sealing against the cheap plastic safety glasses they forced me to wear over my expensive ballistic prescription lenses and decided to add foam plugs to the other ear pro.

As I lifted one ear pro cup to place the foam plug in my ear, the staff member who was the only other person in the shooting area at the time, I was the only active shooter in my closed off separate section, had a fit because I lifted the ear cup. This little dip shit just keep yelling: you signed a waiver, you have to leave, you signed a waiver, you have to leave.

Well, long story short, I had a big blow up with the management and have never returned and never will. The staff are robots, idiots hired to corral tourists who know less than they do, a low bar, and to protect them from lawsuits.

If you’re ever in Vegas and want to shoot, Range 702 is the last place to go. I’ve used indoor ranges, outdoor ranges, police and military ranges and never seen the level of stupidity I saw there.

I wanted to support a local business and that’s the only reason I went there. I figured the more ranges the better. Not true. I’ve been to many of the other Las Vegas area ranges like Battlefield Vegas for a private CCW renewal years ago, many times to Discount Guns, many, many times to the Clark County owned Clark County Shooting Complex, which is a wonderful, huge, and professional run complex for shotguns, rifles, pistols, archer and more, a truly 5 star shooting venue; Nellis AFB range, etc.

All of them were head and shoulders above Range 702. Overpriced, over regulated, staffed largely, not all, but largely by young guys who don’t know their heads from their asses and show it. A trap for tourists and those who don’t know any better.

In short, I can recommend most ranges I’ve been to over the last 50 years in numerous different states both military and civilian and have never had a problem, until this one. Don’t go, there are others better, cheaper and safer. And ones not run by CP3O and his wookie.

    • Roy Blinn May 2, 2020, 12:14 am

I have a former Navy shipmate who lives in Vegas and is well familiar with this facility. I also wrote 702 in a respectful manner and said that staff who have authority but no common sense or courtesy (and knowledge I should add) make a recipe for confrontation and potential disaster. No professional range who tolerate such employee behavior. No professional RSO would have done this. Thank you for letting us all know of your experience at 702.

    • Paul R Labrador May 4, 2020, 8:21 am

For indoor ranges, I prefer American Shooters. Much better run and friendlier towards locals. Otherwise, go out to BLM land.

  • Patrick McWilliams May 1, 2020, 4:27 pm

I would like to have heard the tone of Mr Baldwin’s voice as he made his statement exonerating the criminal who tried to kill him. Do I detect a hint of irony?

By the way, we own all 24 hours of the day. Stop conceding any hour or neighborhood to the thug element.

I wonder if Baldwin was using a suppressor when he administered justice to “Joey”. I shudder to think of the effect on my ears of firing 15 rounds without hearing protection.

  • Carl Smith May 1, 2020, 1:30 pm

I have some questions. If the shooter was standing next to the girlfriends door and opened fire, how did he miss her or him ? Where did BJ have his gun at the time of the shooting ? I owned a business and would go into not so nice of neighborhoods, so I would carry my gun next to me until I got out of my truck, because, if I had to use it, the gun it would be harder to pull from my holsters. Am I missing something from story ?

  • PGiddy May 1, 2020, 1:29 pm

His comments I don’t understand. How could he justify what the thug did? Also, you don’t give someone forgiveness unless they ask for it…

    • Sam May 2, 2020, 9:24 pm

No, forgiveness is for you. Don’t let anyone ruin your day with negative thoughts. Respect, tho’, that’s just B.S.

    • B clyde May 4, 2020, 5:20 am

Forgiveness is not for the perpetrator of the action forgiveness is for yourself and allows you to move on. You don’t have to like the person or ever trust them again or be their “friend”, but you can forgive their action and move on, or they will always own you for that moment in time.

  • Vic Bailey` May 1, 2020, 1:29 pm

Like I was taught by my grandfather “TO HESITATE IS TO DIE!” Its better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. These thugs have ruled the country because of all the (SSDCP) Satanic Socialist Dumbocrap Communist Party Judges and Attorney Generals that don’t want to prosecute the THUGS. Like Bill Gates they want a population reduction and they DON’T care who. Semper Fi.

  • Stevie May 1, 2020, 1:01 pm

I wonder if he’d be so understanding and forgiving if he’d been shot and paralyzed so he had to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. It’s easy to be a good sport when you’ve won.

  • Anthony C May 1, 2020, 12:37 pm

As I initially read this account, I too thought it odd or “fishy” the comments he made about the assailant. The message to the decedant’s family seemed to make the most sense.
However, he does state that as he was writing out these messages, a few days had passed. He had time to think about what had taken place. It may seem odd to be praising a warrior spirit in a defeated foe (a criminal one, at that) rather than to be spewing angry hateful epithets, but as the survivor who must carry on, and carry the weight of having had to take another person’s life, one has to find a way to justify it, to find forgiveness of self, and on a spiritual level, perhaps, a forgiveness of the assailant. That last one, that can be the hardest, because in society, we expect people treat each other with respect. This gunman who attacked Baldwin and his girlfriend violated all of that. It is much easier to forgive oneself under those circumstances, than to forgive the person who violated everything in that instance. So, I will not criticize Baldwin for how he attempts to reconcile and find forgiveness of a fellow human being that he had to put down (for good) in that harrowing instant.

  • Godfrey Daniel May 1, 2020, 12:13 pm

Clueless reporter @ 0:22 saying a man was found murdered. A man was found dead, yes, but to call it murder? Again a sensationalist, clueless reporter. Police called it justifiable homicide.

  • Fred May 1, 2020, 11:43 am

I’m sorry BJ, but there is evil in the world and you just saw it. Joey was a thug, living a thug life, had no respect for other people or their property. At one time in his life Joey may have been a decent human, but he stopped being that when he pulled a gun on you.

  • Vic Lagina May 1, 2020, 11:40 am

Why the “overwhelming” forgiveness by Baldwin..? Was “Joey’ part of a gang and Baldwin wants the irrational-but-probable “Revenge” motive removed..? If somebody came up to me and put a gun to my girlfriend’s face and forced me to kill him in self-defense, I’d want to dig him up and shoot him some more. Plus I’d advise not to eat outside in LA at 2 am – and during a “Pandemic”. I don’t see a lot of intelligent choices being made by anyone in this story…

    • Scott May 1, 2020, 12:42 pm

Not an intelligent post on your part that’s for sure.

    • Mikel May 1, 2020, 2:02 pm

He doesn’t want the suspects family to sue his arse for wrongful death and assault. BTW, the story never mentions what race the suspects were.

People who train and are good with guns have a neat sense of humor because lethal threats dont bother them they are just having a good training exercise==i know as i am one of them===smitty

  • Bob May 1, 2020, 11:37 am

I have legally carried a hand gun every day since 1963. IMHO Baldwin is an asshole. Why would you respect someone who wants to kill you and “Puts a gun in my face”. Furthermore how would you get into a 15 shot shootout with a gun in your face and survive without injury?
I would think this shooting raises serious questions and calls for a serious investigation. This walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.

  • Jim Bob May 1, 2020, 11:15 am

BJ….. I’m sure the residents of Las Vegas thank you for taking one more POS off the streets. Too bad the other thug was able to survive.

  • WiscoGunner May 1, 2020, 11:08 am

I am certainly glad that BJ and his girlfriend are ok, but, like others I don’t get BJ’s response to the attackers. I do get that anyone that has to take the life of another is going to feel conflict even if they were in the right, but the way BJ gushes and basically let’s the guy off the hook for almost killing them is strange. I would definitely say that no, these attackers were not good people because good people don’t walk up to strangers and attempt to kill them. If someone ever attempts to kill me or anyone in my family or an innocent, I will do whatever is in my power to stop them. I hope I never have to take a life because you have to live with that memory and possible PTSD affect from it for the rest of your life. I understand having grace and not holding an eternal grudge against someone, but calling criminals good people…just doesn’t work.

  • Mort May 1, 2020, 11:04 am

This guy sounds like an idiot-liberal… “Had to do what he had to do” ? ? ?
Stop making excuses for trash like these thugs who tried to MURDER you & your girlfriend….
    SMH

  • Martininsocal May 1, 2020, 11:03 am

What kind of IDIOT supports and justifies a dirt bag shoving a gun into the IDIOTS face? And then the Idiot kills the dirt bag, but calls him a good guy? And he respects him? My guess is, the Idiot is really no different than the dirt bag in real life, so they live on the same playing field.

  • ralph glorioso May 1, 2020, 10:49 am

Something here has a less than credible ring. A thug approaches you with intent to kill your girlfriend and you and there is no motive? No prior acquaintance? Then, after you’ve properly defended yourself, you praise the thug, offer him respect?

Something funny here. Color me cynical.

    • Connie in KC May 1, 2020, 11:03 am

Agree! His repeated insistence that he respects the aggressive, life threatening thug makes no sense. Fishy.

    • Vic Lagina May 1, 2020, 11:34 am

I heard on the radio yesterday that they wanted the keys to Baldwin’s car – Baldwin owns “Baldwin Motorsports” so I imagine it was a pretty nice ride.

  • Nick M May 1, 2020, 10:34 am

I’m hoping there is video so I can see him take the room temperature challenge on Active Self Protection channel on youtube.

“This person that I got into a gunfight with, his name is Joey and he’s not a bad person,” said Baldwin. “He just got caught up doing some bad stuff and I happened to be in his line of fire.” + OTHER EQUALLY STUPID STATEMENTS made by BJ. I have one word of advice for BJ, PUT DOWN THE CRACK PIPE! This slug deserved the lead injections he received.BJ, do you have a serious case of something related to Stockholm Syndrome? You may want to seek the medical attention of a shrink, and fast!

  • Clint W. May 1, 2020, 10:16 am

The family might just look at a ‘professional race driver’ as a money pit and pursue a civil suit. Apparently he is laying the ground work on not being hateful or having any animosity towards the man that tried to kill him and his girlfriend. A friend of ours was charged with felony hit and run after a drunk on a moped, nighttime no light, in the rain, ran into his car, and died 3 weeks later. The hit and run had to do with, at the time, nobody was hurt. The moped rider was known in the community as a drug user, petty theft was his job, and when doing neither, was drunk. Now the family is suing, describing the deceased as Jesus Himself.

  • Link Lackluster May 1, 2020, 10:10 am

I’m glad the bad guy lost, but giving respect to his attacker like the mope had no choice? He sounds like an idiot.

  • Adam Jeppson May 1, 2020, 10:05 am

Once again ladies and gentlemen we have a shining example of the wisdom: The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is for the good guy to have a gun and be trained in how to use is.

“Speak softly and carry a big stick”.

  • MadDog Mike May 1, 2020, 9:36 am

So what is with this guy and his REALLY off-the-wall praise and respect for the slug that could have killed him and his girlfriend!?!?!

  • MadDog Mike May 1, 2020, 9:34 am

OK there Hector Mejia, libtard reporter extraordinaire, murder, murder, murder and oh yeah, I was oh so happy to have you report that a bus driver was “feeling OK” after “HEARING” gunshots!!!! Oh my!!!!

  • Randy Hill May 1, 2020, 9:13 am

He may be or may not be guilty of homicide. Police stated in interview they do NOT know what led up to the gun battle. No typical for two men like this to just pull guns on man and woman eating in parking lot. Doesn’t sound like a robbery. Sounds to me like drugs .

    • Johnny Tremain May 1, 2020, 12:16 pm

I would agree, with his comments on “respect” that is a public message to the bosses of the would be killer

  • Boris May 1, 2020, 8:59 am

Odd way to put it, that he respects the guy that stuck a gun in his face. I couldn’t say that. I have no respect for anyone that tries to rob, or whatever he was going to do to Rob and his stripper chick (there is NO DOUBT. that that woman is a 20 year old stripper). No respect at all.

    • Tommy2 May 7, 2020, 7:53 pm

That girl is actually a quite accomplished shooter and former Glock ambassador. Far from your not-so-astute observation.

  • Awesome Bill from Dawsonville May 1, 2020, 8:55 am

I guess I came away with a different take away from this story. Don’t post pics of yourself with guns on social media.

If this had gone sideways you can bet your sweet ass the dead mans family could hire a pack greedy, pro-bono lawyers to twist the facts in a wrongful death suit against you and those same pics will come back to haunt you.

Social media is NOT your friend.

  • Jay Bree May 1, 2020, 8:18 am

Zero respect for someone who approaches an innocent person and pulls a gun.

He deserved what he got, and he’s a roach.

    • Tyrone May 1, 2020, 9:25 am

It makes perfect sense if you realize he is thinking ahead and is laying the groundwork for any potential civil defense wherein he needs to demonstrate he had no malice towards the dead thug….

  • Andrew Ling May 1, 2020, 8:07 am

It’s really amazing how you can be criminalized in a instant.
Good thing that Mr. Baldwin is well trained with his self defense weapon.
That’s the single reason why him and his girl friend are still here with us.
Otherwise, him and his girlfriend could be the dead ones.
About his forgiving the tugs, I am a bit at a loss. Is this where the Millennials are
headed? I am a boomer and I don’t see how tugs who tried to take you life for
a measly car or a pocket change can be forgiven. I do not condone any behavior
that is antisocial and have no respect for others’ lives.

  • Texas Twostep May 1, 2020, 8:04 am

The assailant is lucky it wasn’t the guy’s girlfriend, Tori Nonaka, shooting at him. The article doesn’t do her background justice, she was not just a Glock ambassador but was a world class USPSA and IPSC shooter on Team Glock. In 2015 she became the youngest woman to win three consecutive USPSA Ladies National Championships, and she was also a 3-gun shooter.

    • Lloyd A Smith May 1, 2020, 9:10 am

Aha! There’s part of ” the rest of the story” and if they knew and “forgive” this perp, there’s still more to this story somewhere.

    • Randy Hill May 1, 2020, 9:17 am

That’s all wonderful to have medals hanging from your wall for shooting at objects YOU KNOW WONT SHOOT BACK. Tell me about her kills in combat. Tell me how many fire fights did she survive? So far I see one. The one her boyfriend saved her in.

      • Dan May 4, 2020, 11:28 am

Wouldn’t you want an established national organization that promotes firearms, shooting skills, good sportsmanship, and fun? All without the death and mortal danger? Thusly, USPSA was created. You’re absolutely right, in that USPSA targets don’t shoot back. It is a competition against other talented shooters, so perhaps you should give it a try (and see how awesome and challenging it really is) before wholly dismissing it. There is more to life (and to training) than military combat.

    • Leon R Dunbar June 4, 2020, 3:21 pm

The assailant is dead! His torso was riddled with slugs, with one striking the pumpkin! How is he fortunate that the lady wasn’t doing the shooting? You should seriously consider getting sober!!!

    • Randy Hill May 1, 2020, 9:29 am

Yes, but firearms are meant for personal safety. You have one maybe two emergencies before you start looking like a murderer. Looks like ole pro racer martial artist bad ass just used his get out of jail free card. Next time I see him on the news for killing with a pistol, I hope they will investigate a lot better. Besides, why need a gun, he’s martial artist bad ass right? I have no guns, but when I have been in a fight, my opponents pulled guns when they started getting their ass kicked. It’s ok, I’m not dead. You just stop fighting . Stop aggression. Why were these people out at 2am so ready to shoot to save their lives?

      • Pete May 1, 2020, 10:32 am

Pete you are 100% correct Randy Hill is a complete fucking moron.

Randy you need to quit playing video games in your moms basement and get out in the real world.

It is Las Vegas people tend to be out after the street lights go on even with the China virus going on. I know your mom makes you come inside once the street lights come on.

  • Hendrik Joseph Haan May 1, 2020, 5:58 am

One simple question: Why is the reporter calling it a murder? Does he have a limited vocabulary?

    • Trevor_Phillips May 1, 2020, 7:16 am

“BJ Baldwin of Baldwin Motorsports has been cooperating with police after getting into a gunfight with an armed assailant. His attacker was killed in what police say was a justified self-defense shooting, according to KSNV News.”

“Baldwin and his girlfriend were having a meal in the parking lot of a local In-N-Out Burger when the couple was approached by two men. One of the men drew a gun on Baldwin’s girlfriend and opened fire”

Do you have limited brain power?

      • Len De Silva May 1, 2020, 9:07 am

the deliberate and unlawful killing of one person by another; murder.
“he was charged with homicide” Homicide was clearly in the title. Do you have limited brain power?

    • Joe Spina May 1, 2020, 9:02 am

I was surprised watching the video that the reporter referred to the “man officers found murdered…” yet from the beginning the anchor mentions it may have been self defense. Not sure if it is intentional or just poor choice of words.

    • Randy Hill May 1, 2020, 9:21 am

Why is the murder not in custody until police know exactly what happened? As they stated they do not know exactly what led to this shootout. How we really know it transpired the way they SAY it did? A witness? Cameras?

      • Billy Bob May 1, 2020, 11:34 am

Randy stop posting comments immediately. With every comment you post you look like a bigger fuktard. I’m sure once the homicide detectives took statements from BJ and Tori they said well looks like self defense so it must be self defense and closed the investigation. Get a clue you dildo.

It’s not like he knew who they were but how bad does your luck need to be to pick the car with a champion pistol shooter and avid shooter, martial artist, and pro racer in it to rob?

Did anyone catch the sentence ( the other man fled the SCENE . However Baldwin and his girlfriend left the AREA and then called the police after they got to SAFETY??? Now one man fled one man dead it would seem to me that the SCENE would have been safe at that time? Unless it wasn’t safe to get rid of what you were really their to get?????? I’d really like to talk to the man who fled. Huuuummmmm. Notice no mention of Baldwin and his girlfriend being charged with leaving the scene i’m sorry the area of the crime. Food for thought pun intended.
