David Hogg launched a new political venture this week called, “Leaders We Deserve.“
Its main goal is to cultivate a fresh political wave centered on getting young candidates elected to office.
More specifically, it will focus on electing Democrats under 30 to state legislatures and under 35 to federal offices, especially in states that are poised to turn Democratic in coming years, like Florida and Texas.
Hogg Talks Inspiration Behind Leaders We Deserve
Hogg, 23, spoke to CBS News about the move.
“Obviously, what happened in Parkland to me and my classmates is a huge motivator for why I’m doing this work,” Hogg said. “That’s what got me involved in politics.”
An advisory board supports Leaders We Deserve. It’s comprised of Democratic Senators, Congresspersons, Mayors, State Representatives, activists, and various individuals from different sectors.

“Whether it’s abortion bans, whether it’s weakening gun laws, it’s not coming from the federal government. It’s coming from Tallahassee. It’s coming from Austin. It’s coming from state capitals around the country,” Hogg continued.

Hogg emphasized the need to put people in power who share his vision for America.
“This is not just an outside game. You’re not just pushing politicians to hold them accountable to their promises and make them better but we also need to have the inside game,” said Hogg.
Hogg is joined by Kevin Lata, the campaign manager for Congressman Maxwell Frost (D-FL). Frost is the first member of Gen Z to join Congress.
The Good Pillow Failure
In 2021, Hogg started a progressive pillow company called “Good Pillow.” Just two months after its announcement, Hogg quit citing a need to focus on his college studies and his mission to advance gun control.
During his very short tenure at the helm of “Good Pillow,” Hogg was harshly criticized by his peers, and even friends, for what appeared to be a shameless money grab.
Hogg responded on Twitter.
