Add U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee to the list of anti-gun politicians who have no blessed idea what they’re talking about.
The Democrat from Texas was speaking to reporters inside the U.S. Capitol building last week, stumping for gun control legislation that would, among other things, establish a national gun registry and ban .50-caliber ammunition.
To prove her first-hand experience with the “weapons of war” she hopes to confiscate, she claimed to have held an AR-15 in her hands. Things went downhill from there.
“I believe there will have to be an emergence of members of the House flooding the United States Senate for Senator McConnell to understand that these initiatives today, my gun storage bill, my bill that I’ve introduced dealing with the caliber weapon, I’ve held an AR-15 in my hand, I wish I had it,” she said, raising her arms as if to hold a rifle.
“It is as heavy as 10 boxes that you might be moving and the bullet that is utilized, a .50-caliber, these kinds of bullets need to be licensed and do not need to be on the street,” Jackson Lee claimed.

Most AR-15s, of course, do not shoot .50-caliber projectiles. While certain AR-pattern rifles shoot half-inch pills, the vast majority are chambered for the much smaller 5.56/.223.
Jackson Lee didn’t explain how a rifle’s weight adds to its lethality. Most would argue that lighter rifles are easier to handle, and thus, more dangerous. But Jackson Lee appears convinced that the fact that an AR-15 weighs as much as “10 boxes that you might be moving” justifies its confiscation, and she continued her rambling statements without being questioned by the press surrounding her.
Her description of an AR-15 has received much of the pro-gun media attention, but several of her later statements are (believe it or not) even more ridiculous.

“It’s not just the Taliban coming for the United States. It’s a domestic crisis. It’s toxic,” she said, describing the recent spate of mass murders. “I don’t think we can be a war zone. And the legislation today has to pass.”
Likening isolated mass murderers to an international terrorist organization is akin to likening a .223 to a .50 BMG cartridge. And the U.S. soldiers who have been fighting those terrorists might take exception to her comparison between Odessa, Texas, and Afghanistan.
Ironically, Jackson Lee’s ignorance of the rifles she wants to ban might make her legislation less effective than she hopes. Her bill only bans the possession of ammunition that is “.50-caliber or greater.” Based on Jackson Lee’s comments, one wonders if she believes her bill will ban the type of ammunition used in AR-15s and significantly restrict their use.
If that’s her intention, she’s in for a surprise.
In other news lee said, “The AR-15 is the sole reason we no longer have unicorns. Hillbillies with guns shooting at rainbows and unicorns have taken the toll. We have to get these guns away from the people and if they won’t take the covid jab, then we will fill them full of corn liquor”. She then added, ” an AR-15 is a scary weapon, they are very heavy and if it runs out of bullets it is also capable of using cans of soup as projectiles. The last thing we need is these hillbillies shooting soup cans all over the place, unless of course you are trying to feed the homeless.”

It is sad that we have politicians that are elected and paid by the citizens to help make this a safer and better nation. There are many problems all around the world that are not going to walk away because the leaders are sitting on their butts telling their version of the truth. When you are paid to a job, being ignorant is not an excuse.
Many of our problems are due to people having children by accident, or to qualify for any number of our government get rich programs. Sadly, it takes more effort and paperwork to qualify as a “legal” licensed motor vehicle operator than a parent. Kids need a male parent at home to set an example, set standards, and to kick asses when things are not right.
Many of our gun violence problems are due to the illegal drug industry around the nation, and the world. Our government will not eliminate the opium poppy fields in Turkey and other countries, or the cocaine sources in South America. If they are not able, willing, or able to take this first step, the stopping of the flow of firearms from our enemies around the world will leave the law abiding citizens helpless.
An insurance agent was talking up gun control and/or confiscation a month ago. I told her that it was extremely easy to manufacture a working firearm in any basic machine shop today. As i was walking her to a small shop in the back of my garage, I tried to explain how crude a firearm can be to kill someone on the street.
We have known for over fifty years that store bought cigarettes and tobacco will cause cancer and death, but the next generation voluntarily steps into the same senseless habits in the name of “cool”. DUH!
Sheila Jackson Lee is one of the dumbest of dumb Democrats. Most of the people in her caucus are ignorant and illiterate when it comes to any kind of firearms. They should at least do a little reading before they open their mouth and make a complete fools of themselves. I think the weapon Ms. Lee held and is referring to was actually an Armalite AR50, which is indeed pretty heavy and 50 BMG caliber. As most people that frequent this website already know, It’s also pretty expensive to purchase as well as to feed and is used in almost zero crimes. I think she either misheard “fifteen,” forgot what it was actually called, or it’s possible she doesn’t care what it precisely is. When banning everything firearm related is your goal, details such as names and calibers become trivial. Details have never been the strong suit for Democrats…when it comes to destroying the civil rights of law abiding citizens, it helps to keep the waters muddy.

The issue of violent acts by mentally deranged individuals remains, however blaming the firearm does nothing to correct it. Politicians who have 24-7 security and many carry firearms themselves use the issue to pass feel good legislation to get elected. In the ’70s mental health institutions were closed en-mass to integrate patients into society with telling consequences.
