Description: London Made & Marked Percussion smoothbore aprox .75 cal. / 12 bore.

42 inch barrel of elaborate design :

Octagon at breach, doubling to 16 facets at forearm, then round after accent divider.

Stamped " London " on bbl top.

Floral engraving, gold-wash and nickel-silver (?) inlay at breach & top tang.

Appears to have been converted from flintlock ignition.

Small patinated disc in buttstock, reads " M I ".

Steel Buttplate marked " N C 8 3 ".

Buttstock marked " 8 3 " on left.

Small diamond proof mark w ' 1 ' inside on lock plate.

Markings denote probable Civil War military service : North Carolina 83rd Infantry Regmt., ? Disc may denote inventory tag from ( North Carolina ) Military Institute ?

Solid, handsome piece. Lockwork still functions smartly. Blued finish largely intact w some transition to patina. See photos.
