Markings appear to identify it as Kokura Arsenal in Tokyo, where they were produced from 1935 until 1945. This one has even brown toning with gun metal gray and very little pitting, mostly on its quillon area. Wood is about 90 percent intact with moderate deterioration on the right panel near the guard and on the left panel between the rivet anchors, as the photos will show. Scrabbard has about 20 percent moderate pitting on its upper area with moderate dimpling here and there. Blade is 90 to 95 percent full original thickness with only moderate sharpening evidence. So far as we know, this bayonet will fit both types of Arisaka Rifles. Note that the barrel lug on this one is canted about 5 degrees backward toward the hilt. Lock mechanism is Very Good and operable. This bayonet came to us from one of our cousins who was a bomber tail gunner in WWII, and he probably traded for it from some of the infantrymen he was around.
