For sale we are offering a preowned U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor rifle chambered in 45-70 caliber.
This antique rifle is in Very Good condition and has some history to it. In 1879, all Trapdoors under serial 50,000 were called in for replacement. Those called in were either scrapped or rebuilt for State Militias. This particular rifle was re-issued to the NEW JERSEY STATE MILITIA (marked NJ on left side barrel).
The 32” barrel is Very Good with some expected wear; Some blue loss towards muzzle. The receiver is similar with some light pitting; wear. The later 9" comb stock is beautiful and shows marks expected from field use. There are some smaller dings; No cracks, split or other major flaws. The lockplate is marked “12” and closes properly. Hammer action works nicely.
