Photo shows a specimen of the classic Colt Series 70 Government Model that occasional comes in a limited run from the Colt Custom Shop only. The forte of the Series 70, of course, is the lack of a firing pin block or firing pin safety, and the crisp single action trigger pull that only comes without the trigger having to depress a plunger. Manufacturer and warrantor is Colt Industries of Hartford, CT. Product number is O1970A1CS, Custom Shop designation. Type is 1911 family, single action Government type semi automatic. Construction is all steel, with the exception of the alloy mainspring housing, and diamond checkered rosewood grip panels. Barrel is 5 inch 1:16 Left Hand Six Groove rifling, blued with white chamber shroud. Slide is rear serration, marked Colt’s MK IV / Series ’70 / Government Model / .45 Automatic Caliber with the rampant Colt logo. Sights are stake on black steel front, and dovetailed notched black matte blade rear. Trigger is serrated face .240, with .285 white side serrated spur hammer. Photo specimen pulled at 3 3/4 pounds, with minimal felt creep. Magazine release, slide stop, main safety, and grip safety are all standard, with factory stock curved mainspring housing. The Series 70 does not have a firing pin safety or magazine safety. Each ’70 comes with a total of two standard 7 shot factory magazines, capacity 7+1 with interchangeability with a whole host of 1911 magazines. Finish, as the photos show, is matte blue vertical surfaces with classic Colt bright blue side features. Weight empty is 38.5 ounces, with center of gravity just forward of the magazine release. Overall length is 8 1/2 inches, height of 5 1/4 inch. Each blue ’70 comes in its Colt Custom Shop inner box, with factory marked white sleeve outer, with extra magazine, factory cable lock, chamber protector, protective wrapping, red caution hang tag, MA AG warning flyer, NRA card, and instruction manual that contains Colt’s Warranty Statement.
