HG5274 From its career with the Israeli civilian Police, the Mishteret Y’Israel, comes this FN Belgian Made Hi-Power, model of 1935, also known as the P-35. This Hi-Power’s serial number is 28xx, and we estimate it was manufactured in one of the first three years of production, ca. 1935 – 1937. It was probably captured by the Allies after the war and made its way to Israel perhaps even before the 1948 War of Independence. Most likely, it was on duty during all four major wars: in 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973 in its original configuration. Frame number is somewhat weak, and the frame possibly has been refinished at some point; proof marks, however, and lettering to the slide and barrel are very sharp. As far as specs, Caliber is THE 9mm, 9mm Luger, 9x19, 9mm Parabellum, call it what you will. Construction is entirely steel, 118 mm or 4 5/8 inch barrel, right-hand-twist 6 groove; magazine safety and firing pin safety; weight empty 32 oz / 900 g; fixed low profile combat sights; single action only with lever safety; .265 smooth face combat trigger and original commander type hammer. Grips are factory walnut with substantial dulling to the right panel. They are quite possibly the original grips. Barrel has period correct proof marks, so it is probably the original barrel; and the frame and slide both have matching numbers. Slide is marked Fabrique Nationale de Armes de Guerre / Herstal Belgique / Browning’s Patent Depose, with PW Arms import marking beneath on the left side of the frame as required by US Law. Finish is brown patina with substantial amounts of original bluing visible. We rate this Belgian-Israeli Hi-Power as Good, sixty percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice so that our distinguished shoppers can judge finish grade for themselves. Bore shows etchy texture in the rifling grooves although the lands are strong and quite smooth. We do not detect any substantial pits. Otherwise, chamber, and mechanism are bright, clean, and excellent. Magazine is blue steel later military issue. We are including a new Mec-Gar 10 round magazine; for civilian buyers in jurisdictions where 13 round magazines are restricted, we will sub a total of 2 Mec-Gars, or for anyone else who prefers them, for that matter.
