The 85% bore shows much firing with the pre 1955 corrosive premiered cartridges. The weapon was refinished in dark charcoal at some time in the past. the butt was stamped/ US ARMY, PROPERTY UNITED STATES/193738 on the butt. On the left side of the barrel can still be read S&W DA .45.. The row of the stamping is missing from the right side of the barrel. Both lines of of the Patten dates stamped on the top of the barrel are sharp and clear. The grip panels show wear from the great. This was a combat revolver that Stuart Simmons Sr. carried in the field and returned with both the .45 and a case of T.B. Refinished many years later it is truly a revolver that has seen it's share of trench fighting. The condition accounts for the low price.
