This genuine World War II Beretta .380 auto was produced while Northern Italy, including the Beretta Factory at Gardone, was still in Nazi hands. From its RE acceptance stamp and its 590000 range serial number, it was manufactured in early 1944. Slide, frame and barrel numbers all match, with only the 90000 series number on the barrel lug. The grip frame also bears dpc markings beside the lanyard loop on the grip frame. The Model of 1934 Beretta was such a well made piece that this one is eminently serviceable. Construction is all steel, bright blue finish, with gray steel serrated PPK style round commander hammer. Even the plastic grip panels are steel backed. Weight empty is 33 1/2 ounces. Type is blowback single action with frame mounted round tab safety for right handed shooters. This pistol is capable of hammer down or hammer back safety position. It does not have a firing pin or magazine safety. Magazine is blue steel construction as well, distinctive open sides and with serrated steel finger rest floor plate. Capacity is 7 + 1 rounds of .380 ACP ammunition, Italian designation 9mm Corto, German designation 9mm Kurz. Sights are classic Beretta slide-integral blade front sight with dovetailed steel notch rear. Barrel measures 3 1/4 inches; height 4 1/2 inches from the bottom of the European style serrated butt mounted magazine release to the top of the rear sight; overall length 5 7/8 inches from the muzzle to the end of the grip frame strut. Surface detractions are only moderate, with occasional finish freckling and edge whitening. Grip panel liners show white on the lower grip frame area, but note how well preserved the bluing is on front and back straps of the grip frame. Trigger shows center browning. We rate this 1934 Beretta as Very Good, close to excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos ought to suffice, though, for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
