Alexander H. Lacey, Co. F, 6th Indiana Vol. Cav. 1863-65. Name carved on butt stock "A H Lacey". Condition is excellent to near mint. An excellent addition to any Civil War collection. I have had 5 identified guns in the past but never dead right on to a trooper. Two excellent cartouches on left of stock. Bore mint. No cracks on stock. Case hardening still on the breach. It may be argued about how many were issued and what numbers were actually issued but the name on the stock tells the story and is as old as the finish. All the research has been done that can be found. A fine booklet I prepared comes with the carbine. Information includes: unit history, muster cards, prisoner of war records for the trooper, and after service history, etc. He may have died soon after 1883 since no other information after that date can be recovered. Troopers first unit was the 71st Ind. Vol. Inf. which was captured and he was later exchanged. The regiment then was reorganized and a cavalry regiment. So it may be concluded that many of his fellow soldiers were also reorganized into the cavalry regiment. All that and more in the booklet. I can do extra photos upon request.
