Caliber .303 British (7.7x56mmR). Serial number 15L5742. Produced by Long Branch in 1942 as indicated by the receiver tang. New Zealand ownership markings on the left side of the butt-socket. NO IMPORT MARKS. All matching (receiver, bolt, magazine and fore-end, with New Zealand number 12601 matching on the receiver, bolt and magazine as well). All serial numbers are factory original and were not re-stamped. Fixed front sight. Fitted with a British manufactured MK3 rear sight. The metal retains approximately 85% of its original blued finish and was never refurbished. No rust or pitting. The rifle has a bright bore with strong rifling, and is in mechanically excellent condition with an action that is strong and smooth. The original walnut wood furniture is nice and solid with no cracks and shows the usual marks, dings, and scratches from years of handling and storage. Several smaller Canadian proof marks are present on the wood and metal and are clearly visible. Comes with original oiler and pull-though in butt-stock compartment and a British No. 4 Mk. II spike bayonet with its correct original steel scabbard in very good condition. The Canadian khaki web belt frog is in mint condition with ink stampings clearly visible. The bayonet was manufactured by the Singer Manufacturing Co., Clydebank, Scotland and bears the dispersal code “N 67”. A nice example of a WWII production Canadian No.4 MKI* rifle in original .303 caliber with New Zealand Army markings.
