Here is Remington’s 870 Express Blackhawk Special Operations Tactical shotgun. Manufacturer is Remington Arms of Ilion, NY. Manufacturer’s order number is 81404. Construction is entirely steel, with the exception of the alloy trigger group housing. Finish is Black Oxide. Barrel is 18 inch bead sight .725 cylinder bore, chambered for both 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch shells. Magazine tube is full length and mated to the barrel lug; lug is 2 inches forward from its traditional position, with 870 Police type detent bearing for the stud equipped magazine cap. Other 870 barrels, then, will not fit this shotgun. Loaded capacity is 6 + 1 on 2 3/4 inch shells, or 5 + 1 on 3 inch. With 3 inch Magnum #4 buck, for instance, this shotgun is capable of launching over 200 .24 caliber projectiles at over 1200 fps in a matter of seconds; each shot is like a full box of .22 LR projectiles. Forend is classic police corncob type black polymer. Buttstock is Blackhawk Spec Ops collapsible 7 position that varies the overall length of the shotgun from 36 7/8 inches retracted to 39 3/4 inches extended. Length of pull adjusts from 11 3/4 inch distance from the smooth faced .230 trigger to the end of the 1 inch accordion type recoil pad, all the way to 14 5/8 inches fully extended. Buttstock cant is 3/4 inch to the right, so this shotgun favors a right handed shooter. Buttstock has a sling brace next to the receiver on the left with a permanent swivel on the left side beneath the comb. Pistol grip is hollow cavity two tone OD green and black with stippling ridges. Each shotgun is furnished with a replacement no-hook spacer and black pistol grip cover. Weight empty is 7 1/2 pounds, with center of gravity above the shell carrier’s slot. Shell follower is OSHA Orange polymer. Receiver is drilled and tapped to accept Weaver #48345 Multi Slot Picatinny Optics base, not included. Note that we have added a polymer heat shield, a welcome asset for a hot barrel. Replacement pricing on an 870 Police in similar configuration will approach, if not exceed, $1000.
