This transitional variant Smith & Wesson 659 was manufactured in 1986 according to its TBK serial number prefix. It has served our fellow Americans in the Tucson Area for two decades. Surface detractions to this 659 only amount to moderate holster contact buffing, light whitening to the rear sight edges, and moderate scouring to the right side of its one piece grip. From the looks of the barrel and guide rod surfaces, we estimate it has been fired fewer than 1500 rounds. Magazines are original issue 14 rounds with steel floorplate and black followers. We rate this 659 as a strong Very Good finishwise, since only 15 to 20 percent of its surfaces are affected by any contact evidence. Photos should suffice, however, for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Specs are traditional double action semi-auto, 4 inch barrel, .365 smooth combat satin stainless trigger and .260 satin serrated hammer. This transitional variant has the same features as its definitive descendant 5906 except that the barrel is smooth contour with removable bushing and full length guide rod. This 659 also has the earlier screw anchored right side safety lever. Fully ambidextrous safety / decocker and one-piece grip anticipate the descendant, and this one's 37 ounce weight is 3 ounces less than the fully traditional 659.
