This is U.S Navy model colt 1911 45 cal auto. This was a friends grandfathers service piece as this was what was told to me when I purchased it a while back. I do know that colt quit stamping these guns U.S Navy in year 1915 and started stamping them all with U.S Army in 1916 This gun does not have original grips. The patented dates on the slide are April 20 1897,September 09 1902,December 19 1905,and Febuary 14 1911.From what I can tell from what Ican make out in the serial # this gun was either issued on the USS New York or the USS Texas.Gun works very smooth and shoots well.Gun also has lanyard ring on bottom of butt. This gun is also nickel plated although some say they never made one.I do belive from talking to previous owners that the gun was sent to factory to be nickel plated sometime after their grandfather returned home from over seas.Rifling in barrel is in good condition and all parts and pieces work as they should.there is some small pitting on the slide but not deep enough to feel when rubbed across and the front sight bead in missing. The U.S Property stamp has also been removed which tells me this was a service gun brought back after ww1.I have tried to show all I can in pics provided.I have also seen guns online of the same era and in worse shape sell for over 1300.00 dollars. If you would like to contact me My # is .If no answer just leave # and message and I will return your call.Willing to entertain offers. This gun in great shape books for over 7600 00 dollars. This gun is probally 65 to 75%.Still shows book for over 1200.00.
