We have an old FN Browning 16 gauge shotgun with 2 9/16" chamber that is engraved on the receiver with the name of a former owner. The name is "Haco Boyd". The serial number is 12657x and we have had a hard time exactly dating the gun but we believe it is pre-WWII. The receiver is marked "Fabrique Nationale D'Armes De Guerre Herstal Belgique" Browning's Patent Depose. The engraved name in script "Haco Boyd" appears on the left side of the receiver. Some research reveals a gentleman named Haco O. Boyd who was in the Army Air Corps during WWII and received 2 Purple Hearts, the Legion of Merit and a Bronze Star medal. Later in 1969 he was elected the mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas and a lifelong businessman in that area. Interestingly, he was aboard a jet leaving Miami in 1969 along with 70 other passengers that was hijacked to Cuba where they were released and returned to Miami the next day. Haco O. Boyd passed away in 1988 (Born 1902 Died 1988) and is buried in Little Rock Arkansas. We cannot definitively say that the Haco Boyd engraved on this shotgun is the same gentleman who is noted above but it does make for an interesting story to attach to this old FN Browning. The shotgun is in decent condition but it does have the 2 9/16 inch chamber and shells are rather hard to find.
