This Colt 1889 was made in 1890 and is an antique. It is chambered for the .38 Colt. This revolver was one of those that were refinished, the rubber grip panels replaced with walnut and placed in storage when the 1911 was adopted as our service pistol. This revolver is currently in 92% condition due to some loss of blueing on the cylinder and some small bit of corrosion on the butt. One importand note; there are all the proper navy markings on the butt however, the corrsion has defaced the N on the USN so that the N is broken on the diagonal. The bore is in execellen condition. The mechanics are in proper, smooth working condition. As is expected on this model revolver the cylinder will turn backward until the hammer is cocked. This is a result of the 1895 alterations. This first example of a U.S. military D.A. is a rare example of a military revolver. 31000 were made between 1889 and 1894 with 5000 issued to the Navy. This is an important model for collectors of Colts, Military Weapons, or revolvers. The Fifth Edition of theStandard Catalog of Military Weapons prices this revolver in it's condition at $2500.
