Accepted Payment Methods: Returns: 3 Days This Seller Accepts Instant Online Payments Description: Up for sale is an old Burnside Rifle Co. 5th Model 1864 Rifle (.54 Cal.) This item has a 21” barrel. The bore is in good condition with much of the rifling intact but does show some pitting. These carbines were manufactured by Burnside Rifle Co. in Providence Rhode Island which is stamped on the right side of the lock cover. Much of the exterior surfaces show shallow pitting and none of the original finish remains. The stocks show scars, dents & scratches as well as what are probably hash marks cut in to the top of the cheek piece area of the butt stock. The saddle ring and bar also is missing from this particular rifle. The Burnside carbine employed an unusual cone shaped metal cartridge for use in a percussion system. Approximately 43,000 carbines of this model were produced.
