It has a real walnut stock; it is all walnut and steel with a color case hardened receiver...there is NO comparison between this shotgun and the NEFs being produced today. The NEFs are nice guns, but this gun is CLASSIC! I love this gun! Yes, there are a few nicks in the stock, and it should have because it's an antique, and, by the way, this has been my personal hunting shotgun for the past 25 years. I killed my first turkey with this gun at 25 yards with a 1-5/8 oz load of # 6 shot (Winchester Supreme Turkey Load; the max load for this gun, as it has a 2-3/4" chamber; the attached pic of a can was shot at 25 yards with this same load just last week). Yes, this single shot shotgun with a modified choke did the job, as it has many others. My kids don't hunt, and my nieces and nephews don't hunt, and this gun belongs in the hands of a hunter who will appreciate it's classic beauty and simplicity. The recoil is OK with this gun because last year I replaced the ugly red pad that did not fit (not installed by me!) with a nice black ($28) Limbsaver pad that does. It's a wonderful gun, only being sold to help pay for my new guitar. I have loved this gun for years, and I wish for it to go to someone who will feel the same way about it; thank you.
