This steel Commander length 45 is made in the Philipines by Armscor, one of the largest makers of 1911s in that country. And the Philipines are 1911 crazy. They are very proud of the idea that John Moses Browning designed this weapon because of the less-than-optimal terminal ballistics of the government's 38 caliber issue weapon during the Moro Rebellion from 1. While it was not produced in large enough numbers quickly enough to be used in this armed conflict, it has gone on to be the longest lived and best loved military sidearm of all times. Some Special Forces units are still using it today, nearly 100 years after it was adopted. This is a copy of the Colt Combat Commander, which was basically the same as the "Government" size but with a slightly shortened barrel and slide to allow easier movement. The Government models usually have 5" barrels, Commanders have between 4" and 4 1/4". Original Commanders had aluminum frames that made them real recoil monsters, but this has the steel Combat Commander style frame. Gun is parkerized like original issue 1911, has Governemnt style hammer and trigger, Bull barrel, reversed recoil plug, full length guide rodand smooth wood grips.
