Smoothbore. Several Spanish military proofs are present on the barrel and lockplate, "Royal Crown over O", "L" in the circle, etc. The Royal Crown indicates Spanish state property. The letter "L" stands for "lote", which indicates that the pistol was manufactured by a private contractor. The name of the maker is also stamped on the lockplate, "ALBERDI". Alberdi was a private contractor manufacturing guns for the Spanish military in Eibar region of the Basque country. The pistol was manufactured in 1852 (first year of production), as indicated by a date stamped on the lockplate. Brass mounted full-stock. Complete with the original steel swivel ramrod.
