Manufacturer was CZ, Ceská zbrojovka a.s. of the city Uherský Brod, Czech Republic. Importer marks appear on the left side of the slide, with reiterated serial number on the grip frame's front strap. Please that this is Not a CZ-USA import. Production year was 1991, so stamped on the frame's right side. CZ USA was not even organized until 1997. Note the Importer’s R suffix to the frame serial number. Type is blowback action semi automatic pistol with double stacked magazine. Construction is entirely steel metal, with polymer grips. Barrel is 3 3/4 inch, with polygonal 6 groove, right hand 250mm rifling. Chambering is for .380 ACP or, in European terminology, 9mmBrowning caliber. It is so marked on its slide. Slide is .941 wide at the port, and has lateral rear serrations. Sight system is pinned in, dovetailed low profile blade front, with serrated solid rib, and with drift adjustable only dovetailed black notch rear. Trigger is .390 smooth faced combat type, with matching serrated spur hammer. Double action trigger pull travel is 1 inch, with approximately 9 pounds of pressure. Single action is two stage, with 1/2 inch travel, and 4 1/2 inch pull with moderate felt creep and overtravel. Extractor is external. Safety is ambidextrous for cocked and locked single action carry, but will not engage hammer down or on half cock; and will Not decock the pistol. The CZ83 does Not have a firing pin safety. Magazine is pre-ban factory, period correct, not stamped 13 rounder, so 13 + 1 fully loaded capacity. Mag release is ambidextrous. Overall length is 6 5/8 inches; 5 inches height; 1 1/4 inch maximum grip thickness. Weight empty is 28 ounces, centered at the breech face. Finish is original brushed surface blued laterals and frame, with matte surface slide verticals. Apart from the mechanical problem with its safety, Surface detractions are moderate, principally edge wear on the left side and wear to the right grip panel.
