AyA, sn578377, 1983, 20/28 Gauge, 6lbs. 2oz., Chokes IC/M; IC/M
The AYA Nº 2 HAND DETACHABLE SIDELOCK is the pre-eminent sidelock double gun, and the most famous model in the AYA line. Since its introduction in the late 1950s, tens of thousands of Nº 2's have been sold in the United Kingdom, the United States, and everywhere that shooters value the superb balance and handling characteristics of a fine double gun. Mechanically, the Nº 2 is identical to the Nº 1, AyA’s flagship best model. Like the Nº 1, it was originally modeled on the time-tested Holland & Holland system. When looking at “BEST GUN” features, the AyA No. 2 has them all, and wraps them up in a very well made, well respected, affordable gun. Features like finely struck chopper-lump barrels, hand engraved sculpted action with beaded fences, hand-detachable sidelocks, SINGLE TRIGGER, removable firing pin bushings, long-tang trigger guard, finely figured European walnut stocked to the fences with drop-points, hand-checkered stocks all combine to make a very elegant gun. This gun was CUSTOM ORDERED WITH DESIRABLE FEATURES NOT OFTEN SEEN ON OTHER NO. 2 GUNS. Built in 1983, she remains in 99% factory original condition, with 99% deep rust blue on both sets of barrels and trigger guard, 99% vivid bone and charcoal case color on the action, and 99% factory hand-rubbed oil finish on the wood. The gun is mechanically excellent with both barrels 27” choked IC/M, still tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun, the ejectors strong and well timed, trigger pulls crisp…all in superb condition. If you research the Churchill ribs you will find they are designed to give the illusion of longer barrels. Weighing 6lbs. 2oz. and balanced perfectly on the hinge with the 28ga. barrels, you could not ask for a nicer gun for your upland pursuits or forays on the sporting clays course.
