This listing is for ONE magazine and adapter assembly. Smith & Wesson’s 4000 series pistols, manufactured from the late 1980s until the mid 2000 decade, were so well built they will be around for years after most of us are gone. Lew Horton Distributing and then Camfour Distributors commissioned compact variants of the 4000 that maintained double stacked magazines, and marketed as the Shorty 40 series. The Shorty 40, of course, was almost identical to the 6900 compacts. Here are well maintained police magazines, mostly from Atlanta PD, manufactured in the 2005 – 2009 period, that we have outfitted with adapters to match the Shorty 40. Manufacturer was Check-Mate Industries, Smith & Wesson’s primary subcontractor for S&W Factory Magazines for many years. These are factory Smith & Wesson magazines. Construction is one piece folded steel body with lateral round count ports, with steel spring and steel floorplate piece; with polymer floorplate and polymer cartridge follower. Back seam is full length tig welded and smooth milled. Finish is stainless steel body, original blue cartridge follower, and correct looking black Krylon floor plate finish. The adapters are black polymer with allen set screw for retention, that we commissioned from our Tennessee technicians. Each magazine holds 11 rounds of .40 S&W caliber ammunition. With the adapter in place, these magazines fit the Shorty 40; with the adapters removed, they fit Smith & Wesson 4000 type metal frame pistols in .40 S&W caliber, including the standard 40034026 4043 4044 and 4046, and any of those models’ TSW variants. They will not fit the small single-stacked 4013 type pistols. Surface wear is minimal, principally carbon deposits on the cartridge followers and shoulder scouring.We rate them as Very Good to Excellent Condition. As range magazines, these did not stay loaded for as long periods of time as their service mates. Compatible magazines like these for the Shorty 40 are scarce.
