Biden’s Nominee for ATF Director, David Chipman, Insults Gun Owners

David Chipman should not serve as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

In a recent opinion piece on Fox News, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) laid it out pretty succinctly as to the reason, “Confirming Chipman would be the most significant victory for gun control activists in decades, which is why they are pushing so hard for him to be confirmed.”

Letting Chipman run the ATF would be putting the proverbial fox in charge of the hen house.

As GunsAmerica previously reported, Chipman currently serves as the senior policy advisor for the anti-gun organization Giffords.  This guy literally makes his living pushing policies to restrict the 2A rights of law-abiding citizens.

Apart from maybe Shannon Watts and Michael Bloomberg, the Biden Administration couldn’t have selected a more anti-gun prospect for the position.

As Tillis noted, “when advocating for background checks, Chipman implied that background checks could be used as a way to ‘arrest people before committing crimes.’ On top of that, Chipman has said under oath that the federal government should require the registration of all existing ‘assault weapons’ and ban the future manufacture and sale of ‘assault weapons,’ yet during a hearing to consider his nomination before the Senate Judiciary Committee he refused to define an ‘assault weapon.’”

Chipman refused to define an “assault weapon,” Tillis posited, because he wants to create a regulatory environment where the goalposts are always moving, thus the list of banned firearms has the potential to expand indefinitely.

“And the fact that Chipman supports a national firearms registry for these lawful weapons is extremely concerning and could open the door to a national registry for all guns in this country,” added the Republican senator from North Carolina.

As extreme as Chipman’s positions are, what’s even more unsettling is his apparent contempt for gun owners.  Like many D.C. insiders, he has a “rights for me, but not for thee,” mentality.

In one interview, Chipman likened first-time gun buyers to “Tiger King,” saying they are not protecting their loved ones with their purchase rather they are “putting their families in danger.”

“If you did go out and buy a gun, I would secure that gun locked and unloaded and hide it behind the cans of tuna and beef jerky you have stored in a cabinet,” he said, mockingly.  “Only bring that out if the zombies start to appear.”

What’s ironic about his “advice,” is that reports surfaced recently that Chipman may have lost his duty gun while he worked as a field agent for the agency.

There’s also this bizarre clip during a 2012 appearance on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” where Chipman says the Secret Service’s “use of guns” is “not necessary.”

Bottom line, this radical gun controller is not fit to run the ATF.  We need to do our part to stop him from being confirmed.  The easiest way is to do so is to TAKE ACTION via this NRA-ILA link.  By filling out the online form you’ll let your U.S. Senators know that you want them to oppose David Chipman’s nomination!

Sen. Chuck Schumer has yet to schedule a vote on Chipman’s nomination.  But it’s coming.  Because of the 50-50 division in the upper chamber, and the fact that the GOP is by all reports unanimously opposed to Chipman, all we need is one Democratic senator to vote “no.”  Just one.  Be it one of the six who remain undecided: Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.), Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), Angus King (I-Maine), Bob Casey (D-Pa.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) or someone else.  We need just one to vote “no.”  TAKE ACTION

Your links to take action appear to lead to unsecured websites. I would like to take action but am a bit hesitant to. Help?

For Arizona residents you can contact Senator Kyrsten Sinema directly through her website. She will respond to you. I did so and forwarded her response to my district 4 House rep looking for his help.

Don’t count on Senator Tester. He’s voted yes to every gun control measure that I can remember crossing his path for the last decade. I was disappointed when Montanans re-elected him by a narrow margin. Tester does not protect your second amendment rights.

Chipman is not to be trusted – period. He is Biden’s little yes man.

  • clifford c bailey July 23, 2021, 11:59 am

He’s got Mark Kelly in his back pocket. I have sent numerous emails to Kelly asking for his stance and telling him he has a conflict of interest and needs to recuse himself from voting. You know that POS won’t. Hopefully Arizonans will smarten up and not re elect him. It is sickening what all the Californian, Washington and Oregon people have done to my state!

  • victor garibaldi July 23, 2021, 11:05 am

I wonder if Chipman had to check behind some cans of ‘tuna and beef jerky’ while looking for his gun? Chipman should release his his records.

  • William Sneed July 23, 2021, 6:12 am

Why don’t people ask simple questions to idiots like this?
Do you own a gun? Then what makes you any different from any other law abiding citizen?
