CZ Buys Colt! Colt's Manufacturing and the CZ Group Agree To Terms

Shortly after rumors surfaced that the CZ Group, or CZG, was looking to acquire Colt’s Manufacturing, CZ has confirmed that they are officially going forward with the decision.

“We are very pleased with another important milestone in the history of the CZ brand,” said CZ in a brief statement. “Our parent group CZG has agreed on purchase of the American small arms manufacturer Colt. After the completion of the transaction, the legendary Colt brand will become the new sister company of CZUB.”

The acquisition of Colt by CZ followed a due diligence period where technical experts and assayers made sure that the buyout price was fair. CZ must have decided that it was a good deal, hence this announcement.

The first statements have been making the rounds on social media outlets and CZ fans can barely contain themselves. Still, some Colt aficionados have shown concern about a foreign entity picking up the American legend.

Still, practically everyone agrees that it’s better for a gun company to come to Colt’s rescue — especially a company as aggressive as CZ — rather than some investment firm that may or may not have Colt’s or gun owners’ interests in mind.

Colt ran aground again in 2020 following years of financial problems, poor leadership, and a renowned reputation for its inability to read the market. While people across the country — and around the world — love Colt, it hasn’t seemed like it was very mutual.

Hopefully, with CZ’s help, Colt will finally be able to respond to its own customer base and return to its position as an American icon, here and abroad.

It will also be interesting to see how the new Colt develops its catalog and portfolio in the coming months and years. While both CZ and Colt are popular, established brands in the gun industry, the two companies make fairly different kinds of products.

This is probably a good thing since it will keep the two sister companies from competing with each other. CZ specializes in modern handguns and traditional rifles and shotguns, while Colt mainly focuses on classic handguns and modern sporting rifles.

Even the small number of products that both companies make that overlap target different market segments and price points, such as Colt’s famous 1911 pistols and Dan Wesson’s boutique and semi-custom handguns. All that’s to say that this combination has a lot of promise.

Let us hear your thoughts in the comments.

I hate to hear that the Colt Company is closing up shop, I didn’t see how Colt could survive with the competition. with Uberti making clones of the Colts for a 1/3 of the cost of a Colt. I’m guilty I bought Uberti 1873 Frontier ckone over the Colt , Everybody and their dogs makes a A R-15 CLONE AND 1911 CLONES some serious competition coming from all sides there was just no way for Colt to stay. Colt had started making great firearms again. To me the CZ’s will never be the Colt that I grew up shooting and loved. Just like the FN Winchesters they make a outstanding firearm but there not the Org, Winchesters to me, We have lost our American firearm companies one by one and they never will be back.Colt firearm’s Hartford, Connecticut , Winchester New Haven, Connecticut. Mossberg North Haven, Connecticut, Savage arms Westfield, Massachusetts , Remington arms Ilion, New York Marlin North Haven, Connecticut and many more are just a shadow of the originals all owned by corporations are some group that bought some of these companies cheap and are milking the name brand for all it was worth they have no intention in building up the name brand. My eyes water up when i think about all the great products like firearms and tools that this country made was second to none that have closed down the factories that will never be back again just like Colt . Knowing this does something to me, its hard to explain the feeling but it’s sort of like a friend that has moved 1000 miles away a friend that you will never see again.

Colt shot themselves in the foot when they turned their back on the Civilian market and quit making ARs, I know they claim it was so they could catch up on their military contracts, but many of felt betrayed by that, then they released that garbage Python, and I know many people that had to jump through some serious hoops to get those fixed.

Between all that and the overcharging, and yes they were severely overpriced, the basic CR6920 AR that’s now about $1,000 they were trying to get double for it back before bowing to political pressure to stop making civilian ars (and yes that’s why they stopped) they tried slinking back, to little to late colt.

Cz is a great company that cares more for the American customer then Colt does or did, which is sad really considering colts lineage, when profits over shadow a legacy then the company was bound to fall.

I can’t wait for the next inevitable acquisition Holosun buying trijicon, then Trijicon can choke on their $800 SRO, and their lack of innovation, and adaptation.

Companies that listen to the wants and needs of it biggest and loyalist customers are the ones who will survive, the boot lickers like Colt and Trijicon will all be put in their place in due time.

      • Al Nash August 27, 2021, 1:11 pm

I agree with Paul F. When Colt caved in due to political pressure, that spelled the beginning of the end. Also when the Python was first made, it was a fine revolver, but then they sacrificed quality and craftsmanship for cheaper methods of production. I for one, would rather pay more for quality than to settle for second best. By doing so, you will be far ahead in the end. I own three pistols made by CZ, and I appreciate their craftsmanship, and if they apply it to the products once made by Colt, ( when Colt was really The Name For Quality ) then I’m all for CZ, despite them being a foreign company.

    • Stan d. Upnow August 27, 2021, 11:17 am

Yes, many companies and their products that were uniquely American, and defined us, are either gone or changed. But, that’s life; it’s also part of the plan to water-down the American brand to make us fit into the globalist Great Reset. Your head would spin if you knew the full extent of how much the Chinese have worked their way into American companies, schools, government, etc. They are like termites- quietly doing their destructive work unseen, until finally the whole structure collapses.

    • Comanche November 26, 2022, 4:15 pm

Colt can only look in the mirror if they want to whine, they caved to progressive liberals! CZ a great firearms manufacturer, the quality of their Dan Wesson is superb!
      Comanche out!!!%

CZ BRING BACK THE COLT WOODSMAN!!!

    • Al Nash August 27, 2021, 12:52 pm

      And the Match Target Woodsman!

  • Ronnie February 25, 2021, 7:52 am

I wonder if the work force of Colt is still United Auto Workers?

  • Mike Colorado February 19, 2021, 6:48 pm

Maybe now they will produce a 1911 like an STI, Colt had their opportunity to do this when the first high capacity polymer lower was designed and presented to them to see if they were interested and we all know who did the development of the polymer lower and it was not STI. Well Colt pulled up their big boy pants and stated no they were not interested and the rest is history. I remember talking to them at the Shot Show one year about this while they rolling out their combo AR-15 platform that could be converted from 556 to 308. I asked their rep if they were going to make a move into the high capacity 1911 market and he stated no and that they were not interested in civilian sales. My response was at least could you make a 1911 that comes with ambi safeties and some other custom upgrades for the old single stack? He just looked at me like I was speaking Martian. Finally I stated for a closing argument “You know cowboys were at least smart enough to upgrade their weaponry and the single stack 1911 is not going to compete against a high capacity 45 in today’s times.” Other wards they were a lost cause by turning their backs on civilian sales, they deserve what they get and I have no sympathy for them.

  • David Earnst February 19, 2021, 2:48 pm

The pistol that was my all time favorite was a stainless Colt Anaconda. Loved that gun and then some schmuck stole it. However, my thought on this matter is that perhaps it is good to have a foreign company own Colt when our government is planning to outlaw civilian ownership of guns. That might make it easier to move the facility if necessary. I’m not hoping for that but the Biden/Harris regime scares me.

  • jerry zopp February 19, 2021, 1:10 pm

I’ll keep my Ruger, Thank you!

    • DaveP326 February 19, 2021, 4:46 pm

Jerry- Are you aware that Ruger was the driving force behind the implementation of a ban on magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds? It had something to do with preventing competitors from making guns that could cut into Ruger’s domination of their 10/22 market. A LOT of gun owners are very upset with Ruger because the 10+ magazine ban affects many other rifles as well- Ars and AKs to name just two, and the AR15 just happens to be the best-selling rifle in the US, so you can see why AR makers and owners are angry with Ruger.

      • Paul F July 21, 2021, 9:38 am

Are you aware that was Bill Ruger, who has now been dead for 20 years.

I’m all for accountability from companies, but I’m also not some cancel culture, hipster, Dbag, that thinks that people should be punished for every transgression of the past.

Old man Ruger was a fudd who didn’t understand, the company his family built, and he’s long gone and the company has now corrected, I own several Rugers and they are great guns, they make a few turds but its not like their Sig Sauer.

That is to say they aren’t beta testing on their customers and taking NO responsibility for their actions.

Honestly if you look deep enough into any of the big manufacturers history you can find something to hate them for.

For me even Sig if they ever produce something that I like and that’s prices appropriately then ill buy it.

I almost bought a 365XL until I tried out the trigger and that is one of the most awful triggers I’ve ever felt on any gun.

        • Al Nash August 27, 2021, 1:27 pm

I own a SIG 1911 and a P210 Super Target and I love ’em both. I have to say the P210 Super Target is the finest pistol I have ever shot. But of course, it was not cheap. I also own a CZ 75 TSO, and it is a fine pistol also!

    • FirstStateMark February 19, 2021, 8:47 pm

I’ll drink to that! Big Ruger fan.

  • Norm Fishler February 19, 2021, 12:11 pm

Colt has no one to thank for this but themselves. They have been turning out sub-standard, goods for a great many decades and then acting like you, the one who purchased their product is the villain when trying to get a little company support. I’ve had Pythons go badly out of time after the shooting of a single box of ammo. I have had a Colt Mustang go full auto on me after a frustrating day at the range, when the only thing that did not go wrong was that the medallions did not fall off the grips. I have had the barrel of a Colt .357 unscrew right out of the frame as I shot it and I had a brand new Colt Commander that couldn’t feed two shot in a row, right out of the box. Oh yeah, and a handful of Colt SAAs with their barrels screwed in, leaving the front sites at anywhere from 2-5 degrees off center. Every time I sought help from Colt to correct the problem I was shown a highly held, single middle digit. Eventually I was able to get some satisfaction with the Mustang, and one of the SAAs, but for the rest of them, I just gave up and had the work done privately. I have owned CZ rifles, shotguns and pistols and have never had a bad one. Go CZ. Get that mess at Colt straightened out.

  • Big John February 19, 2021, 11:37 am

One of the first things CZ needs to do is send Senior VP of Commercial Business Paul Spitale back to Sony entertainment! Then…maybe they have a shot.

  • George Geeseman February 19, 2021, 10:20 am

Colt has been worthless for decades.this is from someone whose first good gun was a 1911, and I carried a Python for much of my law enforcement career.people need to stop making excuses for them and demand better.

  • Rob February 19, 2021, 8:24 am

I think this is a big mistake. Another American company gone. Too many dumb Americans buying foreign garbage. Why do people act like they’re patriotic but buy foreign stuff? No dignity!

    • Blasted cap February 19, 2021, 9:21 am

Bet you drive a Canadian or Mexican built vehicle with a big 3 sticker slapped on it.

      • Rob Jones February 19, 2021, 1:16 pm

Nice try dope, I drive a Corvette; America’s sports car. Those countries are still part of North/central AMERICA! Not garbage from Korea or Japan.

        • Gary Avery February 20, 2021, 3:16 pm

I bet you don,t watch news on an American made TV or make a call on an American made cell phone or burn American gas in that Vet.

    • Tom February 19, 2021, 12:19 pm

You need to learn more about CZ. They manufacture some of the finest firearms in the world. They are breaking ground on a $90 million US HQ and manufacturing plant on 73 acres near Little Rock, Arkansas. 500 AMERICAN jobs! They already own Dan Wesson and if they can bring the Colt brand it will give them a huge footprint in the USA. The CZ-75 is a classic handgun that serves militaries around the world. CZ’s Custom’s CZ Shadow series is a tack driver

      • Paul F July 21, 2021, 9:43 am

I love CZ, hope they make a wonder 9, to go with the one that HK is releasing in October.

    • Qhorse13 February 23, 2021, 12:49 am

Well I say to your comment, it’s starting to get like the automotive market had 30 years ago. If the American companies can’t, won’t, and are unable to produce a product of top quality and price then we have to buy “foreign” guns!! Ford and Chevy and especially dodge all came apart around 75k miles ( and no I don’t care to hear your glory story or how many YOURS lasted) and Toyota tapped the American market and BOOM!! they made a vehicle of unprecedented quality lasting 300k before it became trash. If, even then!?! Gun markets are becoming the same way. Make one that will last without timing issues (revolvers), one that feeds and ejects and goes bang each time. That’s all we ask. Look at how long it took Remington to even acknowledge they had the 700 rifle safety issues!! After several fatalities and thousands of shot all because they wouldn’t recall the trigger safety issues that STILL plagues the 700 today.

    • Stan d. Upnow August 27, 2021, 12:14 pm

Are you aware that CZ has a U.S. base in Kansas City, MO, since 1998? Also, just because a company has its corporate hq in a foreign country, it doesn’t necessarily mean all its products are made there. Example: Hyundai, the S. Korean auto maker, has a mfg. plant in Alabama. Lots of jobs there for Americans. Lots of tax dollars for AL’s state treasury.
Regarding Colt being “gone,” that company has been “gone” for years. If a parent company can come in and make beneficial changes Without destroying the essence of the company & brand , than I view that as a good thing. Seems you would rather have an American co. fail and go bankrupt. American to the bitter end, eh?

  • Gerald Smith Lt.Commander NAVSPECOPS Airborne February 19, 2021, 7:59 am

I have many CZ firearms and they are far superior than Colt . The purchase of Colt By CZ is a smart move.

    • Jake February 19, 2021, 11:33 am

Total agreement. CZ wouldn’t have made garbage like the UAW era Pythons, 1911’s etc. The quality control should improve beyond anything we’ve seen in decades from Colt. CZ might even be smart enough to make a new Diamondback or Python ten round .22 which would be must haves and hard to get for years.

  • Andrew Ling February 19, 2021, 6:59 am

What! Colt is no more? I am going to puke! My back-ordered Python is never going to happen?
I bet Biden is happy. He can say that Colt is not going to be affected by his draconian anti-gun agenda.
On top of that, all the Colts out there may have their days numbered. Prices will go through the roof.
I do not own any CZ-made guns for the reason that they are not a domestic brand. You can call
me whatever you want. I just don’t see me buying other than US brands on firearms.
Maybe I’m too old-fashioned. Who cares! One more famous US brand bites the dust!

    • Rob February 19, 2021, 8:26 am

@Andrew, I agree! You’re a true patriotic American. Too bad we dont have more Americans like this.

      • Patrick March 1, 2021, 10:09 am

Right here dude! I’m on board w/ patriotism. Always have been since I was old enough to know better. I get both sides of this argument I really do. But at the end of the day people have to start asking themselves, does another legendary and great American icon need to be owned by a foreign entity??? Before you know it the whole country will be owned by foreign investors. Now, ask yourselves this as well, do you honestly think that our Fore Father’s would have allowed this to happen in their day? Of course not. The whole point of starting the revolution was to gain our “Independence”. Not just to be free from tyranny and oppression but to be economically independent as well. NOT to have to rely on foreign nations. Americans need to start waking up. Take off their stupid covid masks and breathe some free fresh air.

    • Thomas Dickinson February 19, 2021, 2:58 pm

Guns is good. I don’t discriminate too much based on where they were born. Have a CZ rifle that is one of the most accurate things in my safe. I have a model 70 Winchester that was born in Japan, nice but not great. I have another model 70 that was made in the U.S. in 1958. I like them all. My opinion on the Colt thing is that it is much better to have them be part of a gun company that be bankrupt and sold for scrap iron.

    • Aquaman February 21, 2021, 1:39 pm

You rather see American companies making products outside the US vs Investor generating jobs and making the local economy strong ?
Most companies are public entities and the stock is own by American and foreign investors. What we need here are jobs and it doesn’t matter who’s bringing their dollars as long as it is a good deal for Americans.
I’m a foreigner and I feel American and invest and believe in this great country!

  • Bill February 19, 2021, 4:28 am

Colt has not catered to a broad segment of the marketplace for decades. They build limited runs of classic designs like the Single Action Army, Python, and various 1911 models and discontinue them quickly. That drives up the prices to points beyond the reach of most buyers except wealthy, established collectors. Their quality has been up and down. Their customer service is, in my view, almost nonexistent. Try to get an older Colt serviced at the factory and you’ll find out exactly what I mean. They discontinue guns and sell off the parts inventory.

Colt moved its domestic production to West Hartford, CT many years ago. I don’t believe they still own the old factory in Hartford or the Blue Dome. CT is one of the most expensive places in the country to live and work. The state has found a way to tax just about everything. Colt’s workforce is unionized which drives up production costs.

CT is also one of the nation’s most rabid anti-gun states. Colt missed a golden opportunity to move out of that Hell hole many years ago.

It remains to be seen what CZ does with Colt. Currently, Colt offers no competition to S&W and Ruger in the revolver market. Their last foray into the double action semi automatic pistol market was a resounding failure. They can’t even compete in the marketplace with their AR-15/M-4 platforms.

Colt needs to build lots of quality made guns and sell them at affordable prices; Single Action Armies in all calibers and barrel lengths, Pythons, Detective Specials, Official Police revolvers, Series 70 1911s in multiple calibers in the full size and Commander size variants. They need to build plain guns without all the embellishments offered by custom makers, as well a guns with “fancy” features. They need to transform their customer service department into a group that actually works on guns. They need to fix their quality control problems.

CZ can, if it chooses to, resurrect Colt, but not in CT. Colt needs to be moved to a gun-friendly, Second Amendment-friendly state, where guns can be manufactured much less expensively and sold at reasonable prices. They need to back their guns with a lifetime warranty.

It’s really a shame the Colt has fallen so far that S&W, Ruger, Sig Sauer, etc., etc., etc., make better 1911s and AR-15s and sell them at affordable prices. I hope CZ doesn’t let Colt die on the vine. However, they’ve lost so much market share, recovery at this point may be impossible.

Finally, Colt has always been a privately owned company. Take it public and the shareholders will force the company to modernize and compete.

  • bill ric February 16, 2021, 8:47 pm

First off Dan Wesson a CZ owned company is based in Connecticut. Second CZ is headquarter in KC since
1998. So get off the NY headquarters krap. CZ will manufacture a better 1911 than Colt. I own 3 and they are without a doubt the best in there price range and even better than higher priced competitors. Before the pandemic they planned on building a 90 million manufacturing facility in Little Rock, Arkansas. I do not know if this is still in the works. I hope it is! CZ’s 7-52-365!!

    • AR Libertarian February 19, 2021, 8:53 am

Little Rock and the state of Arkansas gave CZ incentives to move to Arkansas. They had a 73 acre parcel of land for their headquarters and new manufacturing facility. There were supposed to be 600 jobs that came with it.

Unfortunately, corporate shake ups, pandemics, etc has kept that from happening. The incentive package expires June 1 if they’ve not broken ground yet. And they haven’t.

Oh well, we still have Walther in Ft. Smith, Wilson and Nighthawk in Berryville. I did find a Guncrafter in Huntsville. Still, CZ would have been cool to have here too.

  • JOHN February 16, 2021, 11:05 am

Good for both of you! I certainly join the throng urging departure of all arms manufacturing from generally every state in the traditional northeast corridor. They have no heritage now for weapons…except to bitch, moan and whine about them. How about a state such as Alabama?

Oh, how I wish Colt or CZ would finally reverse the cylinder release on all Colt revolvers! I had to sell a beautiful King Cobra because my Vietnam-era fingers simply cannot operate the reverse-operated latch on the left side of the weapon.

    Otherwise, go for it Gang!

  • Benjamin S Flanagan February 15, 2021, 7:38 pm

A better move would be to Idaho!

  • Dennis Hanisch February 15, 2021, 4:10 pm

Last I heard, CZ was based in Missouri. I have owned several of their weapons over the years, pistols, rifles, and shotguns and all were/are very well executed. I stopped buying Colt’s back in the eighties. They were junk. I do have a new King Cobra and it’s an excellent revolver and a carry weapon of choice. I think a Colt/CZ marriage would be a very good one.

  • Mauser6863 February 15, 2021, 12:51 pm

Hopefully, CZ will move Colt out of Connecticut ASAP. CZ’s current plant is in Kansas City, so maybe both can head South either AZ or NC, as both will likely offer tax incentives to get more jobs for their respective states.

Not sure what if anything Colt has to offer CZ, other than the name and ??? All of the few remaining Colt employees have contributed to the failure of the company, mainly management. Most of the M4/M16 products are outsourced now, making Colt an assembler or parts, The revolver line is supposedly made in Canada with assembly and final fitting in the USA. Still a tremendous potential for CZ and more jobs for Americans,

    Good Luck to All

  • Michael J February 15, 2021, 11:37 am

It’s been proven that with the right engineering, quality can be duplicated. As for my Colts, It’s more like an individual work of art with fit and finish only hand tuning can achieve. I also have a CZ and while not a fair comparison, they know how to mass produce and maintain quality. Maybe CZ will allow Colts to be price competitive for future buyers and retain the best of what made Colt, a Colt.

  • James McMurray February 15, 2021, 11:21 am

Why does this country have to sell our iconic companies to former communist countries to SAVE them. The majority of these former communist countries are run by their organized crime syndicates, the funds they have to invest are usually from their criminal enterprises. Did we learn nothing these past four years? I prefer we let COLT go away before we sell out to our “former” enemies!

    • Kendall Sorensen February 17, 2021, 9:21 am

Sorry but you’re wrong on CZ and the Czech people. They have a long history of standing up to tyrants, ( not always successfully), they have strong arms rights, they are leading in Europe against the draconian gun grabbers of the EU. The U.S. would do well to nurture and build even stronger economic and political ties with the Czech people.

      • Mark F February 19, 2021, 3:00 am

Well said Kendall. They also make good beer too!

        • TJ Reeder February 19, 2021, 2:21 pm

100% agree! I own many CZ products and for a long time, they were the best-kept secret in the shooting world. Even my CZ 82 is far better built than any Walther or other soviet era handgun. I don’t see any way CZ can lose in this. Their first and most important job will be getting rid of the Management crowd. Put real gun folks in there. Then get the FK out of the east and move to Oklahoma or Texas. I live in TX and I’d say Oklahoma. Build your guns where the people are gun culture folks.

          CZ is an awesome company!

  • David Leas February 15, 2021, 10:33 am

I’m not sure if CZ is going to be the same but it is a better choice than the alternative but I think that it is not doing justice to Dan Wesson revolvers which are better choice than Colt in my opinion

  • Papa Lilburn February 15, 2021, 10:18 am

I say, get behind CZ and Colt purchase! CZ has made excellent firearms albeit on the utility side, for the most part. Colt on the other hand has been plagued by pitifully poor management decisions. The marriage could bring us some excellent guns and I for one am looking forward to the future.

  • Thomas February 15, 2021, 10:13 am

Ive owned several Colts and still own one Ive owned several CZ s and still own one ,both are exceptional guns ,both of which ive bet my life on in the past.

  • Tony Nicosia February 15, 2021, 9:51 am

The board of directors at Colt are to blame for allowing poor management. Shame on them. A great name survives on a great history. Makes me think of what Harley Davidson has been going through in the past few years.

CZ has the money to invest into Colt, upgrading their manufacturing facilities. They can now retool their equipment and processes along with enhancing the catalog offerings. All of this will enhance their costs reductions and profitability. Hopefully this will be a good uprising for Colt. Best of luck to Colt!

  • Gene Chavez February 15, 2021, 9:31 am

I am hoping for the Best! I own 3 1911s from CZ. Dan Wesson. and I also own over 25 Colt 1911s from the old series 70 to the newer ones. I am very pleased with the quality of the CZs. In my opinion Czs are made alittle bit better than my Colts. Tolerance wise and just overall attention to detail. However I am a Colt fan 1st. My only comment is that I hope George Sorros is a million miles away from this deal. I have never trusted that snake. He is always scheming on ways to bring u the US down. Especially when it comes to the gun rights of Americans. Good Luck to CZ and company. I will do my best to purchase as much product as I possibly can!

  • Ernest M Wolfe February 15, 2021, 8:47 am

Sam Colt had money problems. It is hard to believe that with the price of Colt products they can’t make money. Remington had the same problem . If we look close it was all poor management. I have over ten Colts two CZ, I hope this works.

  • Ronald Hunter February 15, 2021, 8:17 am

I own 3 CZs. 1 rifle and 2 pistols. I love them. I have owned many Colts in the past and own a 1952 Colt 22. The reason this happened is the UAW sucking the profits off the bottom line. If CZ allows Colt to be union then they too will be dragged down. I would move my manufacturing to a southern right to work state and all will be well. My 2 cents worth.

The only Colt I’ve ever owned is a second Gen 1860 and it’s a finely engineered work of art. If they produce quality guns at [relatively] reasonable cost I’ll buy them.

And that lovely 2nd generation series blp 1860 Army, as well as the others was made in Gardone Val Trompia by Uberti! I was in that factory during a vacation in the 1980s, when at first the 1851 Navy and then the 3rd model Dragoon had been issued by Colt .
Gardone is for Italy, what Hartford and New Haven is for the US.

After having been showed around the factory by founder Aldo Uberti´s son I asked about the rumour, that the reissued “real” Colt were Italian made. Without saying a word he showed me into a room with stacked finished percussionrevolvers row after row, ready to be boxed and shipped from factory.

I leaned forward and read on the barrels : Adress Saml Colt New York City.
With a finish then so very much better than the Uberti branded.

I remember when Elmer Keith – Oh, did I like that oldtimer! Experience, wit, knowledge, anything – wrote in Guns and Ammo that “now, at last, we have the real McCoy, Colt, Hartford made reissues”, instead of that European junk…
Well,Elmer, gun guru of my youth, bless You, but they fooled you there…

I certainly hope Colt stays alive. I have samples from the days of the California gold rush though the Civil War and the indian campaigns, the 1st world war up to a late sixties Python which is my gem.
Well, actually most of the are…
      Hang on Colt !

How bad do you have to run an iconic firearms company to not make money the last few decades?
I guess Remington could tell you.

As a multiple Colt and CZ owner I couldn’t be happier. Let’s be honest, while many of us cherish their products Colt as a company has acted like they are above their civilian customers for years until they could no longer rely on fat military contracts to keep them afloat. CZ is not aloof like that and aggressively courts us in the U.S. civilian market. I really can’t wait to see what they do with Colt. Don’t be surprised if the Colt name rises back to the prominence it deserves with CZ guiding them over the next few years. That is if our new Communist President doesn’t end all gun ownership.

I hope that with the new buyout it will improve the delivery of new firearms, I have had a new python on order for 14 months and still not a clue as to a delivery date, I’m glad that it was a gun manufacturer that bought out Colt so their rich tradition will go on. I wish CZ the best and if the are based in New York they will relocate to friendlier firearm state where the 2nd amendment is still honored. God Bless America

I have mixed emotions about this, if CZ lets Colt make what they’ve been making it could be very good for Colt and it’s customers. I have never owned a CZ but I have several Colt SAAs, a 1911 and a new King Cobra which are all great guns. I heard that CZ is building a plant in the south somewhere in Arkansas or Alabama. Good get out of New York and Connecticut!

Well….I think it’s too bad colt can’t seem to get there finance together. Hard to believe when you look at how much there cost is on there products. I will say that I own CZ guns and find them to be as good and better than some well known gun makers. Hopefully they can get out of NY. I’d love to see them move to OHIO. I think all gun manufacters will have a tuff time with BIDEN and that bunch running the country. But good luck CZ. Mabe they can not be so greedy as colt and sell colt gun a little more reasonable in price to the public.

Hopefully the CZ company will sever ties with the UAW . I never understood why the Auto Labor union needed to be involved in the firearms industry. Could explain the high prices. If they are tired of the Northern restrictions they should come south ! We have Walther,Sig and Barrett among others ! I hope Colt and CZ make a good match !

I was very disappointed in Colt when they announced last year that they would stop manufacturing their ARs for the civilian market. With new leadership from CZ at the helm, perhaps some of these foolish decisions will also cease.

    • Mark February 15, 2021, 7:54 am

They stopped because their AR’s were super expensive and no one was buying them. The market is flooded with cheaper and just as good if not better AR’s than colt was making. Their 1911’s are $300-$400 more than a similar gun from Springfield. I’m on many gun forums and I know very few people who own a Colt. I’d buy a Wesson, STI, or Springfield well before I bought a colt. Colts gone in and out of bankruptcy many times.

Absolutely agree that it’s better that Colt be bought by a successful gun maker. Better than some hedge fund with no commitment but to make money whether or not the brand succeeds. My limited dealings with CZ have been very satisfactory. One puzzle is that I think CZ is headquartered in gun unfriendly NY.
