Democrats Introduce Bill to Give NFA Treatment to Semi-Auto Rifles w/ Detachable Mags

Democrats Introduce Bill to Give NFA Treatment to Semi-Auto Rifles w/ Detachable Mags
Rep. Ted Deutch wants to ban technology that’s been around since the early 1900s, like this Winchester Model 1905.

Nine Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives quietly filed a bill on Friday that could play a major role in President Biden’s gun control agenda.

The text of the bill has not been released, but the title says everything you need to know: “To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act any semiautomatic rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine.”

Lead sponsor Rep. Ted Deutch of Florida explained on Twitter his rationale for filing the legislation.

“Congress passed the National Firearms Act after the 1929 Valentine’s Day massacre to tightly regulate certain machine guns & shotguns,” he said. “After 2018’s V-Day attack at MSD & others, it’s time to update this law & regulate the weapon of choice in mass shootings: semiautomatic rifles.”

Of course, semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines existed in the United States well before the National Firearms Act was passed in 1934. Winchester released a semi-automatic rifle in 1905 that used a blowback-operated action with detachable box magazines holding five or ten rounds. Deutch does not explain why the NFA needs to be “updated” over 100 years after the invention of semi-automatic technologies.

It’s also worth noting that according to the FBI, rifles are used in a vanishingly small number of homicides. A rifle was only used in about 2% of homicides that year (364) while knives, hands and feet, and blunt objects were all used more frequently.

Rifles aren’t even the main type of weapon used according to Deutch’s own justification for passing the law. As the anti-gun group Everytown points out, handguns are used in 81% of “mass shootings” while semi-automatic rifles are used in only 16%. (Everytown defines “mass shooting” as an incident in which four or more people are shot and killed.)

The bill might not make much sense from a policy standpoint, but that’s unlikely to stop the Biden administration from trying to ram it through. Defining “assault weapons” as NFA items is a primary objective under Biden’s gun control plan, and the president’s nominee to lead the ATF, David Chipman, has voiced support for the proposal.

The bill may have been quietly introduced, but expect this policy to be a major plank in the Democrats’ gun control agenda moving forward.

Not one of us is willing to actually do what needs to be done about this. We’re all tough talking keyboard warriors but none of us is willing to give up our comfortable lives to pay the price demanded to keep what’s ours. The only real differences between the present situation and the situations that produced violent revolutions in the past is that we’re all doped to the gills on cheap food and the internet. We will all hand in our guns when the demand finally comes and it will come. It will come on slowly. It will be presented as just one more reasonable concession. One day in the very near future you’ll find yourself looking around at everyone else you thought would stand up and fight meekly handing in their guns and wonder to yourself when the revolution will start. You were just waiting for some brave soul to fire the first shot. Well here’s a newsflash for you: no one is firing that shot. We’re all too busy posting pointless memes on Facebook while we hork down another cheap cheeseburger.

If you want this crap to end, if you want this future averted, make these people fear your anger. But we all know that’s not happening. It’s just too hard, the pizza guy is at the door, and Linda just posted that little Billy needs his cancer prayed away and that needs to be supported or refuted.

The only way that will happen if all gun owners become mindless sheep and obey a unconstitutional law with the second amendment still in the constitution? And a hundred million gun owners should tell the government to stick that law right up there butt. Think about it do you actually be leave if a hundred million gun owners were told to turn in there guns and no one does do you think the government has the resources to arrest one hundred million, put 100 million people in prison or to search hundreds of millions of houses to collect millions of guns door to door? In this case the only way a law can be carried out is if we become mindless lemmings marching into collection points with your gun in hand. Me im not a Lemming and i will ignore any unconstitutional law the government passes If the Democrats can lawfully get rid of the 2nd amendment which takes 2/3 of the states by the people and 2/3 of congress voting to remove the 2nd ammendment, do you think that will happen ? I dont

Once again the dumbocrats are trying to tell us that guns need to be illegal someone needs to knock some sense into these idiots and explain that GUNS aren’t illegal but some USES of them are. When they start concentrating on criminals instead of guns I’ll listen. Don’t tell me it’s ok to release violent felons caught in the act without bail or release convicted ones from jail because of covid (while letting illegal aliens across the border and transporting the to various red states knowing they have the vid) and then tell me I don’t have the right to protect myself. If the republicans can get the house and senate back in 2022 maybe we can impeach biden and commie harris ( or use the 25th amendment to remove biden-that was cnn’s favorite with trump)

  • zack August 13, 2021, 1:56 pm

so i don’t support this in the slightest but also wonder if by regulating all semi autos under the NFA
does this mean if it passes i can chop the barrels down on any semi auto riffle I already own

again I don’t support it at all, just a thought i had while doing the necessary mental gymnastics to try and comprehend this

Disperse Assets as able to numerous secure, undisclosed locations. Assets are Uppers and Lowers and spare parts and firearm related items chest rigs etc., along with magazines, and small caches of ammo. This will be for the Long term and keep those assets safe from sudden seizure by the Kings men, no matter the disguises they may be sent under. And spread the word near and far……… NEXT: Practice resistance, Defiance and Non-Compliance. Freedom is that important.

Some how I missed the news about the 2018’s V-Day attack at Metropolitan Sewer District. WTF is V-Day anyway? So fine, amend the bill to reverse the Hughes Amendment and it will either die or we get to drill an extra hole in our ARs.

  • R Koster August 13, 2021, 8:11 am

I think it’s time for all lawful firearm owners to say “No”. We need to say it loudly. It has nothing to do with logic and everything to do with eroding rights. This is what leftists want.

  • Recce1 August 13, 2021, 4:53 am

It’s time to introduce a bill to regulate legislators who try to bypass the Constitution, especially the Bill of Rights.

One way would be DownsizeDC dot Org’s Enumerated Powers Act passed as a constitutional amendment. It’d require ALL laws to state where in the Constitution the bills’ actions are permitted the federal government. It’d forbid the use of the Preamble, Proper and Necessary, Commerce, and Sovereignty Clauses to bypass the Bill of Rights.

I’d also favor an automatic investigation AND vote under Article 1, Section 5 on the removal for cause of wayward Representatives and Senators. Along that vein, I suggest we repeal the 17th Amendment, thus once again giving STATES representation in Congress and enabling them to recall wayward Senators for cause.

I’d also favor the use of widening the SEDITION statutes through legislation to deal with Congressional members who try to subvert the Constitution. This isn’t to say they can’t advocate and try to change the Constitution through Article V. That Article is essential, and perhaps it’s second portion should be now used.

However, as I really don’t expect the seditionist socialist Democrats to abide by the Constitution as written in an exegetical manner, I fear Thomas Jefferson was right about the Tree of Liberty. I believe it’s coming and it’ll be a sad day for the Republic.

    • Jay Smith August 13, 2021, 8:11 am

I agree Tony . But , I would challenge the “ugly face ” opinion. Ad Dianne Feinstein may have her bear . Whoops , wait , I forgot Maxine Waters . So angry !!

  • Tyler August 13, 2021, 3:32 am

This will never pass, but just the thought of the government attempting to disarm me is enough for me to feel a tingling in the Netherlands reigons and change into body armor, boots, and absolutely nothing else. Bring it, daddy. I’m tired of playing paddy cake.

  • John August 11, 2021, 8:10 pm

now it would be guns of accepting an external mag, next it will be any semi auto capable of holding more than one internally..

This is part of their march to ban on all firearms.

  • D.J. August 11, 2021, 12:09 pm

I believe the logistical problems are far too difficult in today’s
    U.S.A. , to seize all semi-autos .

Banning is one thing , outlawing is one thing . Demanding the
surrender of these weapons is one thing as well .

Does anyone believe that compliance is an absolute ? Will all
Patriotic Americans just submit to their demands ? Will the
criminal element submit to those demands , as well ?

I would hate to think this degenerates into a ” shooting war ” .
But , in light of our current situation , it may become that .
I am not a betting man , but I have a good idea who’s going
to win , and the situation will be quite ugly .

The neocommunists need to consider if this proposal is worth
all their bluster and threats , and be aware of the possible
results of what they suggest .

It could be the extinction of their kind , and way of life .
Classic Darwinism , if you will .

    Who knows ?!!!!

  • John A. August 11, 2021, 10:24 am

Guns with detachable magazines have actually been around since about 1640…over 100 years BEFORE the American Revolution and the U.S. Constitution and its Second Amendment.
The Kalthoff Repeater (ca. 1630, over 100 years before the American Revolution) could by about 1640 fire up to 30 rounds BEFORE BEING RELOADED. It could *fire at a rate of 60 rounds per minute* (1 per second). Variants with DETACHABLE magazines were produced also starting about 1640. The bullets it fired were over .22 caliber.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalthoff_repeater

There were other repeating rifles and even pistols around as well (e.g. Cookson Repeater)

The Framers of our Constitution knew of these at the time the 2nd Amendment was ratified to become part of the U.S. Constitution. In other words, they weren’t just thinking of a “single-shot muzzle-loader” when they wrote the 2nd Amendment.

  • Mark N. August 10, 2021, 1:25 am

California bans all NFA items now. They would love for this bill to become law and ban all “evil black rifles” without California even having to lift a finger. Of course this bill i far more expansive than a mere assault weapons ban, as it would scoop up M1Carbines, Mini14s, Springfield M1As, and every other semiauto rifle in the country other than the Garand and similar clip fed rifles. Does the plan include a requirement of registration for previously owned rifles?

Then let’s ask the obvious question: how many “mass shootings” have been accomplished with rifles purchased through an FFL with a background check? If those firearms were legally purchased, what will registration of such arms under the NFA accomplish that wasn’t accomplished with a standard background check?

    • KimberproSS August 11, 2021, 9:47 am

It is death by 1000 cuts. The gun grabbers will constantly nibble at the fringes of our Bill of rights to destroy it. The Second Amendment has been under attack for decades, the First Amendment has been under attack in more recent years. A Marxist government must have control of he people. That Bill of Rights is sacred and should not be touched by progressive thinking. Be sure and vote with that in mind.

    • jim bob joe August 16, 2021, 5:45 pm

pretty sure las vegas dudes shit was legit when bought, background check failed on the TX church shooter dude so again slipped through the cracks, orlando night club….. legit, el paso walmart, legit, school in FL (cops fucked that one up)

hate to say it but almost 25% of the big ones

its the 13% people who have handguns illegally, they make up 90% of the total people being shot

I’m starting to enjoy revolvers and old lever actions now while i dont have too, they would have to give away the tax stamps i could never afford all of them….
