Eight Democrats in the U.S. House introduced an omnibus gun control bill last week aimed at “ghost guns,” “concealable assault rifles,” bump stocks, and background checks.
The bill has been touted in the media as a way to “close existing loopholes” and “prevent mass shootings,” but much of the bill appears to codify into law President Joe Biden’s recent executive orders on gun control.
“I’m sick of inaction while easily-fixed loopholes cause death and tragedy in our communities. I call on Congress to immediately advance and pass these common-sense reforms to stop mass shooters, slow the flow of untraceable weapons into our communities, and protect law enforcement officers,” said Rep. Val Demings, a Florida Democrat, in a press release announcing the legislation. Demings was considered as Biden’s running mate in the 2020 presidential election, and she’s planning to run for the U.S. Senate next year.
“Despite the lies and screeches from the scandal-ridden NRA, the truth is that the vast majority of American agree that criminals shouldn’t be able to buy a gun or download one, that weapons which fire through police officers’ ballistic vests should be tightly and rightly controlled, and that weapon modifications that allow shooters to fire hundreds of rounds a minute simply have no place on our streets. I’m proud to join with my colleagues on this commonsense legislation. Let’s get this done and save lives,” she continued.

The text of the bill has not been released, but Demings’ press release outlines four areas the bill will target.
- Regulates “ghost guns” by requiring gun kits to include a serial number and a background check to complete a sale;
- Regulates concealable assault rifles which fire armor-piercing ammunition and were specifically designed by gun manufacturers to circumvent the National Firearms Act;
- Help states enforce existing laws by requiring federal authorities to alert state and local law enforcement within 24 hours when an ineligible individual lies on a background check and tries to purchase a firearm; and
- Codifies the last Administration’s ‘bump stock’ final rule to regulate bump stocks, which allow modification of a weapon to enable rapid firing.
The ATF has already released a new rule on “ghost guns,” which is currently in the public comment period. Demings bill would likely codify that rule into law, making it much more difficult to change under a Republican administration.

It’s unclear how the legislation will define “concealable assault rifles which fire armor-piercing ammunition.” All semi-automatic rifles can theoretically fire armor-piercing ammunition, and rifles with barrels under 16 inches are already heavily regulated by the federal government. It’s possible the bill will target stabilizing arm braces, which manufacturers often attach to AR-style pistols. Biden called on the ATF to clarify its stance on whether a brace turns an AR-pistol into a rifle, and Demings appears to be working to codify into law Biden’s preferred anti-gun interpretation.
The bill is being co-sponsored by seven other legislators: Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), Mike Quigley (IL-5), Mike Thompson (CA-5), Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18), Joe Neguse (CO-2), Ted Deutch (FL-22), and Peter DeFazio (OR-04).

I am a registered Democrat and agree that laws do nothing to criminals. We already have laws we just do not enforce them . How can anyone think that criminals read the current law statures before they commit crimes? So, I stand with you and so do many Democrats when it comes to our Bill of Rights. I just don’t agree that calling all Democrats Skank, communist, pedophiles, anti Americans, etc., If you want to convince other Americans about the important issues regarding our 2nd Amendment rights, first start by being respectful of everybody’s right to think, and second, try to understanding how they feel and their passions. They also care about the safety of Americans. Great leaders always learn about their opponents passions, feelings, history, and strategies, before instituting their game plan. Remember we are all Americans and we must feel together if we are going to succeed.

Second, if you truly are a supporter of freedom, liberty, and the preservation of our bill of rights, your vote should reflect that. Voting for the people who represent the democratic party is the exact opposite of that. There are simple litmus test you can do. Ask yourself this: hypothetically, if a bill was proposed to nullify the second amendment and Biden or Harris or any other Democrat had the ability to simply sign it into law with no political repercussions, what do you think they would do and why? What would Republicans do? The problem with “patriotic” people that vote Democrat is that they don’t see their politicians for what they really are trying to do. They may be fighting in the name of “safety” and “saving lives”, but do you ever see a Democrat trying to preserve your rights, or fight to restore a right that has been taken away? So far they only chip away at your rights and call it “compromise” when in fact they are the ones gaining ground while freedom loses ground. All you see is that they are trying “keep the kids safe” while in reality they would take your gun away right now if they could. We can all easily see what our country would look like if democrats ran the whole show. Look up self defense laws in Australia or the UK and check out how much freedom they have.

I feel certain that there are many registered Democrats in places like Cook County Illinois that are also strong supporters of the 2A. The reason is simple, you have little or no political power if you are registered as a Republican. Maybe you still want your trash collected. A large part of the problem is that the conservative Democrats are nearly extinct, I believe Lipinski was on of the last in Cook County and Chicago has none. The party that claims “diversity is our strength” does not tolerate a diverse spectrum of political thought.

Just what is a concealable assault weapon? An AR pistol or AK pistol is not concealable. These democrats go after guns that don’t even exist. There is a problem with ghost guns, as there are commercial underground factories turning Glock copies and ARs for sale to criminals. Those people need to be found and prosecuted. But, legit builders should be left alone. If cops come into contact with a ghost gun and the owner is a prohibited person, charge them. If the persons record is clear, wish them a good day.

What makes it a ‘ghost gun’? The law allows person to construct for his own use. Without sufficient talent and equipment where-with-all, said kit will not become a firearm on it’s own. Still at square one, if you know how, you can. It’s that dreaded AR pattern they object to so unreasonably. For us, nothing but a proven design, semi-auto at that. Know how many full-autos are a LOT easier to make?
If a serial number was to have some effect, wouldn’t your supposed unique phone number do the same? Gotten any spoofed calls lately? Seen any auto for sale by owner ads doing basically the same thing? Maybe an email looks like your bank but with an alphabet soup address?
What about laws in general. A logical citizen expects we’d all adhere to them, the vast majority do!
That in mind, step outside or maybe to a busy intersection. How long will it be until someone skates through a red light or STOP sign? A vehicle with windows tinted too dark? A few lowered excessively? Wrong colored headlights and markers? Loud exhaust? Sound system rattling your windows, [notice when _their_ phone rings, it gets turned down…]?
Now, those aren’t exactly criminal acts, but every one worth a citation no matter where you are. Scofflaws or lack of enforcement?
