BREAKING: Dick’s Will No Longer Sell ARs, High-Cap Mags

Dick’s announced Wednesday that it is ending the sale of ARs and magazines holding more than 10 rounds at all its stores, including its affiliated Field & Stream locations.

Dick’s Sporting Goods announced Wednesday that it will no longer sell those scary assault weapons or those high-capacity clips at any of its stores or affiliated retail locations.

The Fortune 500 company is also setting a corporate policy to ban the sale of firearms to persons under the age of 21, regardless of state or local laws.

CEO Edward Stack, the son of the famous Dick Stack who founded the Pennsylvania-based company, spoke about what precipitated the decision.

“When we saw what happened in Parkland, we were so disturbed and upset,” Ed told The New York Times. “We love these kids and their rallying cry, ‘enough is enough.’ It got to us.”

“We’re going to take a stand and step up and tell people our view and, hopefully, bring people along into the conversation,” he continued.

Though he claims to be a strong 2A supporters, Ed Stack said the company is now going to publicly support “common sense gun reform.” Congress should ban black rifles and bump stocks, raise the purchase age of firearms to 21, and criminalize private transfers among other reforms, according to Stack.

This isn’t the first time Dick’s has caved to political pressure. Following Sandy Hook, Dick’s stopped selling ARs in its big box stores. However, sales of those rifles continued at its outdoor specialty chain, Field & Stream. But that ends today.

“We don’t want to be a part of a mass shooting,” he said.

Stack said he is prepared to deal with the fallout from the gun community.

“The whole hunting business is an important part of our business, and we know there is going to be backlash on this,” said Mr. Stack. “But we’re willing to accept that.”

“If the kids in Parkland are being brave enough to stand up and do this, we can be brave enough to stand up with them,” said Stack.

Gun grabbers love to demonize ARs. But rifles of any make or model are used in less than four percent of all gun-related violence. It’s a free country. Dick’s can enact whatever policy it wants. But who is to say that the next spree killer won’t use a handgun vis a vis Virginia Tech (which left 32 dead and 17 wounded)?

Suppose that’s the case. And suppose the individual bought the pistol at Dick’s. Then, Dick’s — by its definition — would be “part of the next mass shooting” or complicit in the murder of those people. Does it then ban the sale of handguns, too?

Scapegoating inanimate objects for the violence perpetrated by crazed murderers is an intellectually dishonest approach to curbing mass killings that creates a slippery slope. I mean, at some point, they’ll run out of guns to ban and the public won’t be any safer nor will the killings stop.

What we all need to recognize is the only way to stop the violence is to stop the killers before they cause it.  Ideally, that involves early intervention or incarceration.  Or, it may involve armed resistance.  Either way, the focus should always be on stopping the person pulling the trigger or driving the rental truck or making the pressure cooker bomb.  Anything else is just window dressing.

Dick’s will deserve what happens next. If we all boycott, they will go by the wayside,as they should.
This IS AMERICA and they should follow the laws -not make up there own.

  • M A March 6, 2019, 9:20 am

I wonder how much double dealing, and threats are happening behind the scenes?

  • SkyGunner January 24, 2019, 9:01 am

Ok dicks. You’re a sporting goods store, who are the majority of your customers, sportsmen right? You think any of the limp wrist, anti-gun bunch are going to make up your lost revenue. Just lost my business, plus all my hunter buddies(when I mail this) and their buddies, so on, so forth. You may have miscalculated this time, dickie!

  • They pay to a vendor to have each Foid card printed.
    Find a new vendor dumbass

  • RANDY March 8, 2018, 3:45 pm

I really do not need to say it! People, stop buying from Dick’s. Or anyone who does not protect your rights. I stopped the second they took Ar’s off their shelves. Walmart…. they dont even care about you. They seem to care more about China and the welfare crouds only. Dont you see what is happening here? The Dems are getting all these idiot store to slowly take away our RIGHTS! No AR’s, no mags over 10 rds, No sales to under 21 !!!!!. The right is being taken as we sit here. This IS heading to do exactly what the Libtards want…. to take away your rights and they are getting their way and are winning by going around the government and local laws! At this rate you wont even be able to get a gun or mag in a couple of years.

  • Tod from Missouri March 4, 2018, 11:11 am

I watched the video and thought to myself , “now here is a brown-nosing suck-ass” and then thought ….why would you stop selling only “assault-style” rifles? And then I thought, OH , ok … don’t sell the rifle , but continue to sell the ammo that feeds it. What a fake gesture of trying to prevent these types of shootings!! DICK’s not selling the “black rifles” will not do a damn thing to slow this situation down. I have been in a Dick’s store a couple of times and left without purchasing anything because they were overpriced. I would say to Dick… go ahead and close your entire store and that way you will have a head start on the next wave of killing types.. when the guns are gone , then knives will be next, then baseball bats, golf clubs.. not to mention crossbow bolts and arrows for compound bows!! Dick, you are a spineless IDIOT!!! You say you support the 2nd amendment… but if all suppliers of firearms were to follow your spineless ways ,to help support”the cause”, then those who are new to the ownership of firearms and any hunting or sport shooting or just simple training to be prepared to protect themselves and their family, are going to spend excessive amounts to do so. (Supply and Demand).

A ban or limit on guns and/or supplies does not keep rifles or any firearms out of the hands of those who commit these types of crimes. Dick, your decision to do what you have done is not going to effect this at all.. but you will lose and ton of customers and respect from me. Good to know that there are still many retailers that have a sense of commitment to the 2nd amendment and the good citizens of the country that also hold gun ownership to heart. I will NEVER buy or step inside a Dick’s Sporting Goods store again!! You won’t be missed. Goodbye.

  • Andrew N. March 4, 2018, 2:03 am

Dick’s has a price-match guarantee, even web-based ads. I just found that out and utilized a couple of months ago when I bought a hard case for my new Ruger Precision Rifle. I guess it’s a shame, as that is the last thing I will by at Dick’s. I don’t personally own an AR, but just like my fork didn’t make me fat, the AR the didn’t shoot anybody. The asshole holding it did. That AR-15 did exactly what the asshole holding IT wanted it to do. The AR can’t be blamed anymore than my fork being the problem. It’s always the asshole holding the tool, not the tool itself. Dick’s CEO knows that, he’s just afraid of the public perception. I guess we’ll see how committed he is when his profits plummet.

  • Dilligaf March 3, 2018, 1:31 pm

Dick’s has always been way too overpriced. I just go there to see what I want then buy it online for significantly cheaper.

  • John Stanton March 3, 2018, 12:06 pm

I hurt my left elbow and went to Dick’s and found one of those “Tommy Copper” supports. Works well. Oh, sorry I must have missed the point of Dick’s stopping the sale of “assault rifles” and associated products. There wasn’t a gun in the store! I did notice some knives, so after the next stabbing incident I’m sure those will go too. Interesting how principles come and go depending on the acts of nutjobs and politicians.

  • Frank March 3, 2018, 9:21 am

If you ever shopped at Dicks you’ll know they don’t have DICK!

  • Altoids March 3, 2018, 7:30 am

Never been in a Dick’s sporting goods store.
    Never bought anything from Dick’s.
    Now I never will.

  • Richard Golden March 2, 2018, 11:31 pm

When did Dick’s start selling AR’s again? Because they also quit selling them after Sandy Hook. Seems convenient don’t you think?

  • Thinklonger March 2, 2018, 9:14 pm

Any decision like this that restricts law abiding has the potential to kill more lives that it saves. We send people under 21 to war but restrict them from self defense when they come home. Meanwhile the criminals under 21 get the guns anyway.

When these mass shootings occur, we need to demand putting an end to restrictions of law abiding citizens and an end to “gun free zones”.
Actually we need to also demand this before, during and after.

    • Z March 3, 2018, 10:13 pm

The decision of a retail chain to stop offering a product doesn’t place a restriction on a law abiding citizen. It removes that retail chain from the list of vendors for that particular item. The law abiding citizen is free to shop at any other purveyor of the sought after item.

  • c.e. thacker March 2, 2018, 8:39 pm

The few times I went inside Dick’s stores, I was the only customer in the whole damn place. Maybe the Snowflakes will flock there now to buy your high priced goods.

    • Jeremy March 2, 2018, 11:51 pm

I was thinking the same thing. I’ve walked through Dicks to get to Sears on the other side of the mall. I have never spent any of my $ at Dicks. If I need guns I have the Local Cabellas to shop. And other firearm stores near me. Never Dicks.

  • Phil March 2, 2018, 8:24 pm

Dick’s doesn’t give a damn about any of us or what we think. Don’t waste your time.

See above where it says “..prepared to deal with the fallout from the gun community.”

  • GunFlint March 2, 2018, 8:15 pm

Dicks is crapping in their drawers….The decision to stop selling ARs or High Cap Mags nothing to do with conscience, or beliefs. It has everything to do with NO BACKBONE & a lot of Stinkin Attorney’s line up to sue them. Personally, I do not do business with a gutless, anti-Constitution business. We Can Live without them !!!

  • Frank G March 2, 2018, 7:39 pm

Oh Ed Stack sir ………………………………….. Sure on the lib wagon. How about is ……… if you are no longer willing to sell the MODERN “SPORTSMAN” Rifle ………… Unjustly referred to as a assault rifle or AR as it has been called by the DeomCraps/Libs AR stands for ArmaLite you DOLT! If you truly want to take a stand why don’t you refuse to sell any components that will work/associated with a AR platform??? How about the 5.56 / .223 cartridges that feeds them. OR is it because the margins are rather slim compared to the volumes of ammunition with rather “beefier” margins. It are the consumable items that add to your coffers, sell one gun ……… sell boxes of ammo!!!!!!!! Do you have the Testicular Fortitude to make the “Total Commitment” … I think NOT! How about instead of DICKS Sporting Goods, Donkey’s Goods? You can use the Democraps mascot a “Jackass” would be appropriate! Don’t disgrace your father’s good name, he had the original concept.

  • Joe March 2, 2018, 5:22 pm

Dick’s is an overpriced store anyway. Nobody will really care..

  • Terry Tuck March 2, 2018, 4:55 pm

No longer a customer at Dick’s. Just caving in and taking a progressive step towards attacking the Constitution. Did you send instructions with the product sold dictating it’s use? Are you equating an inanimate object with a will to act independently of the person? Not all guns are evil, only this particular type? Yeah that is sound logical reasoning. Since I hunt coyotes and target shoot with one, you are claiming that I am associating and aligning myself with these despicable acts. How objective, unjudgemental, and tolerant of you! Jump on the liberal agenda bandwagon. I hope you cover your backside well fulfilling all of the politically correct check lists so you will be welcomed with open arms in to your group. I hope your group is as big as you think it is for business sake at least.

  • James P Pratt March 2, 2018, 4:37 pm

A sporting goods store that doesn’t support the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution is worthless. They should change their name to Dick’s are Us.

  • Warren Boles, PhD. March 2, 2018, 3:33 pm

I have been in a Dick’s Sporting Goods store for the last time.
I will not violate my principles to even acknowledge their
    lack of sense.

  • Roger Johnson March 2, 2018, 3:22 pm

    Duck Fick’s!!!

  • KenL March 2, 2018, 3:12 pm

I had already stopped buying from Dick’s after they quit selling “assault weapons” several years back. Being the true hypocrite, they did continue selling those “scary black rifles” at their subsidiary Field & Stream stores. In our capitalistic society, they can choose what they want to sell, and I can choose where I want to buy. Goodbye – again – Dick’s.

  • MaxEffectUSA March 2, 2018, 3:10 pm

They pulled the same crap in 2012 for some other shooting. I think almost everybody forgot. The Dick’s near my location hasn’t sold AR’s since 2012.

  • Leonard Feinman March 2, 2018, 3:06 pm

I buy all my guns and ammo from Gun Stores or their suppliers. If I am interested in a gun, and I have done primary research, I still want the expertise to a knowledgeable sales-person. Sporting goods supermarkets do not always have anybody that can tell you much about a gun and compare it to another brand, or caliber.
So, I am not going to miss Dick’s, or Walmart. There are other stores more deserving of my business. Like I said, I would rather go to a dedicated gun store

  • Foxtrotter March 2, 2018, 2:40 pm

Our local Dick’s has a very small gun counter and after their Grand Opening I’ve been in once and never have bought anything, so I can’t even ban them!

  • Steve March 2, 2018, 2:19 pm

First let me say the mass shootings of late are true tragedies and the knee jerk reactions are getting ridiculous. Over the years I have spent thousands of dollars on various items at Dicks, but if Dick’s wants to be a Dick about things I won’t be going there anymore for anything. If they want to be a steward of the left then they should stop selling ALL ammo, bow & arrows, knives and ANYTHING else that could harm or kill anyone. I am also mailing my Dick’s card to them with a short note of what I think they can do with it and their new policy.

    • Gopher March 2, 2018, 3:00 pm

“ANYTHING else that could harm or kill anyone” includes a lot of sporting gear…

      • Rick Sands March 2, 2018, 5:03 pm

I could do serious damage with my 9 iron…bought at Dick’s. I won’t be shopping there anymore.

    • Z March 2, 2018, 7:28 pm

Feel free to disagree with his choice, vote with your dollars.

What if the author put as much effort into offering ideas to solve the problem as he put into venting vitriol at the man who choose to try and effect change for the better at the retail he owns.

  • Evan March 2, 2018, 2:11 pm

Well, I’m not spending a damn penny at Dick’s (or Cock’s) anymore. And I let them know why, too.

  • bob eason March 2, 2018, 2:10 pm

I have known for a long time that Dick’s was going in the same direction as Gander Mountain. Even the employees of Gander Mountain that I have talked to in Jackson Tennessee have said and thought the same thing. SOMETIMES IT JUST TAKES A WHILE FOR IT TO HAPPEN. ( there is no way to fix stupid.!!!!

  • John A Chabot March 2, 2018, 1:03 pm

I will not shop at Dicks any more

    • jerry johnson March 2, 2018, 2:03 pm

Dick’s will no longer have to worry about me walking into one of their stores again. and i’ll be passing word out to the 1,800 other firemen, and 2,500 police officers in memphis to think twice before they spend their hard earned money into a Dick’s. i bet Bass Pro Shop, and Academy will welcome us.

    • Nick M March 2, 2018, 3:04 pm

Yep. Never. Well, a public apology with public firing of company officers that made the decision can reverse it.

      • Z March 2, 2018, 7:33 pm

If you read the article vs. the comments you’ll see that the decision was made by the owner of the chain. No company officers to fire.

  • Handgunner March 2, 2018, 12:37 pm

Haven’t been in a dicks in years. Prices way to high. Have shopped them for clearance items but those prices are about in line with other stores regular prices.
Surprised they still have their doors open.

  • larry March 2, 2018, 12:36 pm

I will not buy from any store / business that stops selling A R type rifles or changes age to buy ///// CHICKEN SHIT BASTURDS \\\\\ AND I DONT EVEN OWN ONE I WILL NOW YOU DONT SUPPORT N R A GOOD BY ///// FUCK OFF \\\\\

  • Deplorable March 2, 2018, 12:25 pm

Although Dicks did stop selling AR after Sandy Hook,it was their other store owned by them,Field and Stream. That discotinued sales. Hmm, wonder why they let so much time lapse between closings.Deplorable

  • Peter March 2, 2018, 11:32 am

Now I understand why this business was so named. But, it should have been named:
“Liberal knee-Jerk Cave-In-To demoRATS Store No Longer To Shop”.
    The$e $pinele$$ cretinS threaten the 2nd Amendment. Ju$t a bu$iness deci$ion? We $hall $ee how well thi$ play$-out for dik$.

  • Dan March 2, 2018, 11:29 am

To show your support of the Second Amendment, please boycott all of these Corporations who are exploiting a horrible tragedy to earn public relations points!

    • Yonatan March 2, 2018, 12:09 pm

I Unsubscribed from their e-mail list SAME day, the webform had a spot to fill in the blank why – “Anti-Second Amendment media annoucement”.

(Not that they had a very good selection in the first place, usually shop across the street at Sportsman warehouse anyway and they have one of the better selections, but I stilll shopped at dicks.

Honestly, Legal Rx’s for Opiates and Error’s by Doctor kill far more people, a great majority of firearm deaths are suicides, but to minimize the tragedy and loss experienced by the families.

Honestly, processed sugar is the biggest slow killer in America.

  • ben March 2, 2018, 11:24 am

I wonder if we got a few hundred sportsmen to protest in front of Dicks how much tv coverage we would get.

    • Peter March 2, 2018, 11:33 am

      Crickets from fake snews.

    • TPSnodgrass March 2, 2018, 11:36 am

Anither example of liberal hypocrisy, xenophobic ageism.
Thank youDick’s for showing your tolerance.

      • Z March 2, 2018, 7:44 pm

Would you mind explaining how it’s, “liberal hypocrisy, xenophobic, ageism.”?
Ageism: prejudice or discrimination against a particular age-group and especially the elderly.
Exenophibic: one unduly fearful of what is foreign and especially of people of foreign origin.
Hypocrisy: a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not.
Liberal: not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or traditional forms.
Edward Stacks decision has nothing to do with age or ethnicity. It was in keeping with his belief that it might help prevent their company’s involvement in a future mass shooting, so, nothing hypocritical about it. You could call it a liberal decision since he broke with their traditional practice of selling rifles to people under the age of 21, but they stopped selling AR’s back in 2009. As for the rest of your comment, I think perhaps you don’t know what those words mean.

  • ben March 2, 2018, 11:20 am

Dicks isn’t selling guns, who cares haven’t gone to one in a long time. They are overpriced, the staff is clueless about what they are selling and the salespersons couldn’t tell one end of a gun from the other. I walked out when a salesperson tried to tell me 30.06 is the same as 308.

  • Donald Bartram March 2, 2018, 11:14 am

Dick’s sucks !! If you want to buy cheap Chinese crap at a better price go to Walmart

  • Dexter Winslett March 2, 2018, 10:52 am

    Boycott.

  • Wayne Cornelius March 2, 2018, 10:49 am

Been by their stores, never been in one. Now I never will.
Too bad, that a purveyor of firearms doesn’t know that firearms kill no one.
Hey enjoy your shrinking bottom line

    • Z March 2, 2018, 7:50 pm

I agree with you. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. That’s why I’m not worried about preventing North Korea or Iran from getting nuclear weapons.

  • Tick Tock March 2, 2018, 10:40 am

You folks most certainly need to grow up. You really need an AR? Why? Isn’t a 12 ga with #4 buck enough for home and office protection. I have had guns since I was 12 now I am 65. But I was taught how to use it. Never wanted an AR and see that many of the people who have one are a few bricks short of a full load. Saw some “young adults” with their AR’s a few years ago in the Ocala Forest, in Central Florida at an unsupervised gun range, set up the the National Forest Service. Doubt its still open. Anyhow, these boys and girl shot hundreds of rounds at targets at the 15 and 25 yard mark. Couldn’t hit them though. My wife and son and I were there trying to site in our deer rifles. It was a very unpleasant situation. Not only could the AR wielding crowd not shoot straight, they had no idea about gun safety. My son had just taken the “REQUIRED” gun safety course so he could get a Hunting License. My wife and I took it with him. We had to leave because we were concerned for our own safety. Yeah, I think its a great idea to sell semi automatic military weapons to children who have no idea about how to use it! I cannot imagine anything more stupid!!!! Dumber than dirt and damn proud of it too, the NRA motto. Keep reciting it to yourselves. Are you all really so clueless? So easily manipulated? What a pathetic state our citizenry has become. I am sure many of you are combat veterans too. In real combat you know, where the other guys are shooting at you and really want to kill you. Paper Tigers, Chickenhawks, Rambo wanabees. I could go on and on but there is no point communicating with people who do not listen. Just go buy some more AR’s and semiautomatic handguns too. It’s what the NRA wants, because all they care about is the gun manufacturers bottom line. Nothing else!!! The Sheep with guns, that’s you.

    • jerry johnson March 2, 2018, 2:13 pm

TICK TOCK, your a DUMBASS….. get out of your ivory tower and wake up. if you were a real veteran, you would remember what you were fighting for, don’t let a couple of kids with stupid parents let you think everyone is like that…..

    • Evan March 2, 2018, 2:18 pm

Yup, you’re a dope. I’m a Marine Corps combat vet, I own an AR. Every other vet I know also owns an AR. The last time I saw someone acting the fool on a shooting range, they had a lever action. If you don’t want an AR, don’t buy one. The millions of us who do want them will continue to buy them and use them safely, without some Fudd telling us what we don’t need. Some of us use guns for more than just hunting deer.

    • Bruce March 2, 2018, 3:49 pm

Your an idiot. Where do you get off judging anyone. Just because you have a slanted opinion doesn’t mean that you have a right to condemn anybody enjoying the right to shooting sports as long as it’s legal. If your that big a pansy, stay away from the place that you described. That’s what any adult would do. I personally don’t have any particular use for an AR but I don’t question those that do. I’ve been involved with shooting sports since the mid 50’s and yes I’ve seen lots of mistakes but that’s how we learn. In 1955 I was accidentally shot with a .22 and did I blame the gun? Hell no. Just a learning mistake made by someone that didn’t know ant better. You don’t know anything about the NRA and your a liar if you claim to know. You have no idea about the motto. Do you have a clue as to what the Eddy Eagle program is about? Look into it before you spout a lot crap about something you don’t have a clue about.

      • Z March 2, 2018, 8:35 pm

“How dare you judge other people for their preferences, you idiot!” Lmao oh the irony.

    • Nashoba Losa March 2, 2018, 5:35 pm

Have seen your comments on other forums, Tick Tock, and know you enjoy owning firearms and using them. Your comment here says that you might not understand the Second Amendment as well as you should. You should stay off the other forums where membership supports the Second Amendment. I don’t have a black gun either. But during my service I qualified Expert with the M14, M16 and M60. And also qualified Marksman with the M1 Garand, though I only fired for it once and that was the day of qualification. I served from 1969 to 1979 in the Guard so you and your wife and son could sight in your deer rifles. Reading between the lines of your post, I figure your son is probably under 18 because he had to take the gun safety course. The way things are looking now, he will not be able to purchase a pistol or long gun in Florida until he is 21. Chances are he may not even be able to use your or your wife’s rifle till he is 21. That will take a lot of the enjoyment of a shared family sport away from you. Too bad, but you seem to be against the 2nd Amendment and you seem to support Dick’s decision to not sell to those under 21 for any firearm. As I said earlier, I don’t own a black gun either, but if I want to buy one, I should be able to do so. And since you support gun control, how do you feel about perhaps your son being in the Military at age 18 and not being able to own or shoot a rifle when he is on leave and you want to take him hunting with you? That is going to be a sad day for your family when and if that happens. You’d be better served supporting increased mental health provisions for our Nation rather than supporting anti-2nd Amendment organizations like the Democrat/Liberal/Socialist Left is doing. But maybe you are one of them?

  • Bob March 2, 2018, 10:39 am

So I guess if guns kill people and pencils misspell words, Cars drive drunk and spoons make people fat then we should ban them as well?

  • John E March 2, 2018, 10:39 am

I am not sure if anyone remembers but Dicks Stop selling AR15s after Sandy Hook incident. How is it that they started selling them again so that they could stop selling them again.

    • Boss March 2, 2018, 12:17 pm

Either he was lying to us then or he is lying to us now or that son of a dick is trying to make a profit on those lost children.
      Edward Stack is a vampire!

      • Z March 2, 2018, 8:40 pm

What the actual fuck? Did you read the article or skip straight to the comments? Dick’s Sporting Goods stopped selling AR’s in 2009. Their subsidiary Field and Stream continued to sell them. Now, neither Dick’s nor Field and Stream will be selling AR’s. How do you equate not selling a product with profiting? You lazy bastard, read the article before you try to comment on it.

  • Mac McCLUSKEY March 2, 2018, 10:36 am

Im a pretty big spender..as are several of my friends.. I recall going to Dicks and putting 2 ARs on hold with 1000 rds of ammo , 2 rifle cases , 4 extra mags , for friend of mine that wanted his twin sons to have these items for Christmas .. that terrible Sandy Hook incident happened and I went to pickup the guns ammo, and accessories 2 days later.
Dicks had pulled the ARs.. and told me and my friend we could not pick up the rifles I had picked out for the boys Christmas. So Dicks ,, dicked us .. and then said “heres the rest of your order” , the ammo and accessories.. I unpolitely told them what to do with the rest of the stuff.. and of course at that time of the holidays there were no rifles to be had in time for Christmas.. Needles to say None of the 4 of us buy anything at Dicks anymore And when you loose several customers like us I know for a fact you feel it…
Whats Stupid about kissing up to the “Do-Gooders” is that none of those ,”I need a life” “City Folk” are ever going to buy any firearms or ammo any damn way. Only thing the buy is North Face skinny Pants aover priced shoes made by slave labor children..
So My message to the stores that sell sporting arms and ammo is .. DONT BE A. “DICK”..

  • kevcarole March 2, 2018, 10:36 am

Not the first time a “retailer” shouts out, “SEE HOW MUCH I CARE !!!” and blames his customers for the tragedy. Never been to dick’s, will never go to dick’s even for a visit. Customer loyalty and care can only be only be at his convienence.

  • Ross Neal March 2, 2018, 10:36 am

I for one will be taking my business elsewhere. If Dick’s is too stupid to realize that CNN was behind staging the whole student protest, including writing the questions and statements the students were to say, then they will loose my business. I hope a lot of my fellow sportsmen will do the same.

  • Lester March 2, 2018, 10:26 am

So whats new here? Dicks hasen’t sold them for 6 years or so around here, just another” nothing burger” feather in there to please there lib board of directors.

I could care less, I don’t do busnuiss there anymore anyways. 1/2 there stuff is overpriced Chinese junk that dosen’t hold up. Who cares what Dicks corp thinks? There just catering to there lib stockholder’s and playing politics cause it makes themselves feel relivent. Guess what,,,,,I for one don’t care , your just another big box sporting goods stores going the way of Gander Mountian.

  • Ron Lang March 2, 2018, 10:21 am

So Dicks has caved in to a bunch of demonstrators and rioters, hoping their stores wouldn’t be targeted by the left. Dont they realize that the left has never and will never patronize their stores unless they start selling pink camo outfits for men.

  • bjg March 2, 2018, 10:04 am

    “Dicks” perfect name.

  • Sean March 2, 2018, 9:43 am

Dicks are pussies for bowing to the libs/dems. Fortunately I have a bass pro and cabelas and sportsmans warehouse. Amongst real gun stores. Dicks can disappear as far as I’m concerned. I’ve never been inside one and NOW I NEVER WILL.

  • JungleCogs March 2, 2018, 9:42 am

No big deal; Dick’s stopped selling ARs years ago as they are nut much of a firearm store. They are the place to go should you need golf clubs and tennis shoes. This is simple of an example of gaining earned media by jumping on the Leftist bandwagon.

  • Brad March 2, 2018, 9:41 am

I won’t be shopping Dick’s any longer! Just a political media reaction by Dick’s. They know there is nothing to the made up term “assault rifle”. They lend it credence by this action yet there remains no difference in an AR15 compared to any other semi auto rifle.
Political cowards at Dick’s and I choose not to do business with this company or their affiliates such as Golf Galaxy, Field & Stream & others. Very pathetic move Dick’s!

    • Jim March 2, 2018, 10:17 am

      Me too.

  • Jay March 2, 2018, 9:39 am

    Wow!
    Politically correct Dick’s!

  • Reed Gregory March 2, 2018, 9:17 am

I ain’t never seen a ar rifle in dicks.plus their higher than a cats ass.

  • Mr. Sparkles March 2, 2018, 9:17 am

Dicks had the right to decide what it will sell, but not to whom without a more specific criteria then under 21. I have the right to never shop at dicks again.

  • shoot3on8 March 2, 2018, 9:13 am

Haven’t shopped at Dick’s for years. This silly move won’t affect me at all.

  • Mike March 2, 2018, 9:01 am

I live in the town where Dicks got their start 50 + years ago. Back then, they were decent, had a good selection of hand guns, rifles and shot guns. Slowly they drifted away, no longer selling hand guns, limited selections of other.
Most of my friends and pretty much everyone I know don’t buy anything from them now. On occasion , there may be a decent deal on ammo, but far and few in between. Firearms, forget it. They are just too pricy on anything from golf to tennis to clothes to gun related.
Our local news made a big deal about them no longer selling “assault rifles and high capacity magazines”. Well obviously in New York, we can’t have either. If a station is to report “news”, at least get the facts first. (Yes, I understand they have stores in other states).
So in summary, it’s no big deal about Dicks. You’ll survive without us, and we will without you.

    • Mark March 2, 2018, 9:24 am

Excellent post Mike. I have not been in Dicks store in many years and I will continue to stay away.

  • Pete W March 2, 2018, 9:00 am

I find it ironic that they’ll stop selling the rifle but their web site still advertises the sale of 5.56 and 2.23 ammo … seems they only want to kinda ban it … dopes. I won’t darken their doorstep again — and neither will anyone in my family

    • Dan March 2, 2018, 11:38 am

They want to polish their public image while quietly profiting from the target of their indignity!

      • Z March 2, 2018, 9:23 pm

What part of his explanation sounded indignant to you? Please quote it.

  • Ranger March 2, 2018, 8:52 am

Our local Dick’s hasn’t had AR platform rifles or handguns for the past 5 years. And apparently, the fool who made the announcement didn’t know they never sold “assault rifles”. My entire family has boycotted Dork’s for the last 5 years.

    • Mitch Barkett March 2, 2018, 9:07 am

Dick’s is a tennis shoe and golf club store. Visit your local mom and pop gun store for real guns.

      • Z March 2, 2018, 9:25 pm

        Agreed.

  • Bayou Boys March 2, 2018, 8:45 am

Hey F— Dicks if you own any kind of guns and you buy anything from Dick’s after this your a cowart just like them! Let them keep all their junk!!!!!

  • Mountaineer March 2, 2018, 8:45 am

Went to Dick’s one time looking for boots. Everything was made in China but I did find a pair made in Korea. Never went back and never will.

  • John March 2, 2018, 8:39 am

Any store that is against the 2nd Amendment should be boycotted

  • John March 2, 2018, 8:35 am

Any store that is against the 2nd Amendment should be boycotted, only went in Dick’s once never been back, they suck I like Capella’s but if they turn coat will not shop there anymore

  • Ziggy March 2, 2018, 8:24 am

Dicks should be giving people free Ar\’s with a dozen free 30 round mags so the public can defend them selves instead of removing them from the stores since they are so concerned.
Me and my family won\’t ever purchase anything from Dicks sporting goods anymore. I bet they will be going out of business in the near future after they loose half if not more than half of there customers.

  • Zupglick March 2, 2018, 8:21 am

Dick’s. Overpriced. Lousy service. Bunch of asshats. ’nuff said.

  • Guy fransen March 2, 2018, 8:16 am

Come on people give dicks a break .
Here in Las Vegas they are trying there hand at a designer store.
Who else would open up a store in our famous fashion show mall.
So now we have DICKS SPORTING GOODS in our fashion show mall right on the strip of Las vegas..
So between buying Gucci and Prada you can buy a knife and a shotgun .
    Where next dicks
Church or a prison …..any school

  • Geoling March 2, 2018, 8:10 am

I’ve been boycotting Dicks since they really stopped selling ARs after Sandy Hook. Too bad more customers didn’t follow my lead then.

  • RockIsland March 2, 2018, 8:10 am

I’m really getting tired of seeing Dick Jr on tv, as if he has ANY credibility on the subject of MSR’s.

After Sandy Hook, Dick’s didn’t just decide to stop selling AR’s. If that’s all they did, they would have escaped much of this backlash. But they went far beyond that.

They signed a contract with Troy to be the exclusive seller of a new model of AR-15. Troy then spent time & millions of dollars on R&D, designing & building new production lines & tooling, sourcing parts with external vendors, hiring & training people, then tying up funds in a large inventory of these rifles to supply Dick’s through the Christmas shopping season.

Many Dick’s customers then ordered rifles, and had their orders confirmed.

Dick’s didn’t tell Troy “When the contract is fulfilled, we’re not going to buy any more rifles.” They fucked Troy by cancelling all sales.

All that money tied up in inventory, with no way to sell the rifles during the holiday shopping season. Having to pay suppliers, even though they didn’t get paid by Dick’s. Possibly having to lay off employees.

They didn’t even have the balls to talk to Troy beforehand; Troy learned about it in the news, like everyone else.

Not to mention customers receiving letters from Dick’s on Christmas eve, saying that they wouldn’t be getting the guns they ordered. No, this was much worse than Dick’s just deciding not to sell something in the future. They screwed their customers, and they screwed Troy.

Then, just to add insult to injury, they sold the rifles at their Field and Stream stores for twice the price.

So much for their self righteous moral decision.

  • Willie March 2, 2018, 8:08 am

So it took Parkland? What about Chicago, Detroit, Little Rock, Compton? You are a racist idiot and I will never shoo at your overpriced WHACK assed store again!

  • Pete F March 2, 2018, 7:55 am

When DICK’S(appropriately named ) near us a couple years ago we dropped in ,there were no “Black rifles ” but they had a display of standard capacity magazines .
My wife picked out some sneakers and some other items including a spare mag for her M&P 15-22.
When we got to the register the clerk said there was a note that they couldn’t sell the magazine ,when asked why the clerk got with her boss and they came up with the answer that they thought they were under recall( smelling B.S. ) we said good bye and canceled the transaction of all items —have not been back .

  • Robert Staskey March 2, 2018, 7:39 am

Dicks can do what is politically expedient for them , and I and everyone I know will do what is morally correct for us and never do business with them it works both ways .

    • ZThats March 2, 2018, 9:45 pm

      That’s a beautifully simple solution.

  • Infidel762X51 March 2, 2018, 7:37 am

Dicks always was a bunch of dicks. In the early 90’s they stopped selling handguns after pressure from the left. Who needs them, I haven’t bought a thing there since they caved then.

  • Kb31416 March 2, 2018, 7:33 am

Mr Stack wants to bring me into the conversation? Fine. I haven’t set foot into one of their stores in quite a while, primarily because they are way overpriced. Now I have a new reason: politics. These idiots don’t seem to realize that stabbing your customers in the back isn’t going to make your enemies hate you any less, but will only enrage your customers. They should just get rid of their guns altogether and cater to bicyclists who wear spandex suits and helmets.

    • Z March 2, 2018, 9:47 pm

Technically, they already cater to bicyclists.

  • Bob Pagan March 2, 2018, 7:33 am

Anyone want to bet on when they file for bankruptcy protection?

    • bda22 March 2, 2018, 9:35 am

      Really?

It’s Modell’s that has no customers. Dick’s is destroying Moddells

  • Bob March 2, 2018, 7:32 am

    BOYCOTT
    Dicks Sporting Goods
Or anyone that allows them selves to be belittled by a group of Anti Gun people.

  • Jesse Scott March 2, 2018, 7:10 am

Hypocrits. Go look at the racks. Lots of shotguns and bolts. Common Dicks, why not drop all firearm sales if it really means that much. Oh right, its really about the money.

    • Z March 2, 2018, 10:03 pm

Yeah, it’s the same kind of hypocrisy as a bunsiness that sells one type of a product but not ALL the varieties of a product. I mean, if you’re onlt going to carry some variations of a product you’re clearly only doing it to make More money on the things you are Not selling. It’s not like people will shop there for the things they want in spite of the store not selling other things. How can a bait and tackle store expect to stay in business if they don’t sell ocean going fishing boats? Clearly they choose not to sell 36’ Boston Whalers because of all they profit they’ll make off the people who don’t think anyone should own a Boston’s Whaler. Ingenious bastards.

  • P Gray March 2, 2018, 6:23 am

Yea , Democrat Dicks is going to save the country. I didn’t like the store the first time I went in one, gives me great pleasure to say I never will again!

  • M March 2, 2018, 6:18 am

    Boners!!! : )

  • M March 2, 2018, 6:13 am

Hey, Dickheads………start shorting your stock…….or is that what this is really all about for you guys at the top?

  • Laurens March 2, 2018, 6:01 am

Who buys at Dicks anyway? They have some of the most ignorant sales associates ( in firearms), prices that suck, and product selection that leaves a lot to be desired. I learned my lesson with Dicks.

    • bda22 March 2, 2018, 9:38 am

      Is Moddell’s better?

  • Z March 2, 2018, 5:37 am

    Ban that libtard store !!!
    Immediately.

  • CWK March 2, 2018, 5:17 am

They haven’t sold an AR since Sandy Hook. I guess no one even noticed lol

    • bda22 March 2, 2018, 9:38 am

      Right you are sir!

  • Danny Sapp March 2, 2018, 5:04 am

Save us Dicks! Only problem with your solution is when the next person is murdered with one of your knives or hatches, strangled with one of your ropes, tent cords, or boot laces, intentionally ran over and murdered by someone driving a truck, what will your solution be for these murders? I’m sure you’ll want to ban these murderous tools too. There is NO COMMON SENSE in your solution! I understand wanting to get on board with trying to do SOMETHING, but this is about as stupid as it gets. Dick’s is waaay too far left for me.Besides, if I try to make it to Dicks (wearing my TRUMP t-shirts) I may be ran over by one of those crazy murderous drivers in your parking lot. Dicks headquarters folks need to come to the party. For me, I’ve bought my last item from Dicks and any businesses associated with Dicks. People and companies like Dicks need to stop trying to discriminate and forcing peace loving and law abiding citizens to think the same as you.

  • Barry Soetoroe March 2, 2018, 4:50 am

Thank you Dicks! This makes my shopping easier – no need to walk into a Dicks Sporting Goods ever again.

  • Rick March 2, 2018, 3:55 am

Go ahead Dicks. I will stop shopping at your stores. Remember. People rarely increase shopping at a place like Dicks when they make a political move like this. But many of the people you offended will stop shopping because of your cowardice.

  • bbbs53 March 2, 2018, 3:46 am

Go ahead and cave, soon you will realize you just cut your own throat. I will NEVER set foot in one of these idiots stores ever again and I ask EVERY law abiding citizen to join me! Boycott Dicks!

  • Dewey March 2, 2018, 12:08 am

That’s right, worry about Dick’s, while the orange one in the white house rams it up your ass. Typical ‘Muriccan gun owners.

    • Z March 2, 2018, 10:27 pm

I wonder if the author of this article will attack Trump for supporting an age restriction or for the time he supported banning “assault weapons”.

  • Erin February 28, 2018, 10:55 pm

Yall have lost all of my business! I will never shop at Dicks again and I will let all my friends and family know not to shop there. Yall awful for denying the American people thier 2nd amendment rights and discriminating against people legally able to obtain a fire arm under the age of 21.

    • Flip March 2, 2018, 3:54 am

Who cares nobody shops at Dick’s anyways they’ve been going out of business for years….good riddens

  • E. Smith February 28, 2018, 1:57 pm

I will boycott DICKS Sporting goods until they are more 2nd amendment friendly.

    • Z March 2, 2018, 10:28 pm

Since when does the second amendment only apply to AR pattern rifles?

  • Keith February 28, 2018, 1:23 pm

There are WAY more deaths every year from pistols than AR’s. Dick’s should stop selling all firearms, ammunition, hunting gear, camo clothing, knives, archery equipment, etc., or just shut up.

They will be selling them again in six months – they are dick’s!

  • DaveL February 28, 2018, 1:03 pm

Shame on you for distorting the facts. ‘Clips’ are not mentioned in the letter & he cited “assault-style” rifles, which is exactly what they are. We all know that apart from a full auto mode, they are identical to military rifles in bore, velocity, capacity, accuracy and lethality (in some cases superior, even).

    • Gary MacNeill February 28, 2018, 3:15 pm

The fact they do not fire full auto is what makes them non military weapons. My car runs the same as a NASCAR, but It’s by no means a racecar. Why? Legal of performance. They are similar but they are not the same. Continually saying they are for not make it true. If people want to debate that fact that’s fine just be honest with what you are saying and allude to anything or worse outright lie.

    • Mark N. February 28, 2018, 7:50 pm

Said by someone who probably knows next to nothing about ARs. In addition to .223/5.56, ARs are chambered in a multiplicity of calibers, including .22 LR, 6.5 Creedmore, 6.8 Spl., 6.8 Grendel, 300 BLK, .458 Hamm’r, .50 Beowulf, and probably a few more that I cannot recite. ARs are the premier firearm for competition and for hunting hogs and varmints, depending on caliber. They are approved for deer in .223. This rifle has long outgrown its Armalite 15/M16 roots.

    • bbbs53 March 2, 2018, 3:48 am

There is no such thing as an “assault rifle” moron!

      • Steve March 2, 2018, 6:27 am

Look up the Army’s definition of an assault rifle. It has single shot–three round burst –and fully automatic. It’s called selective fire.

    • George March 2, 2018, 7:44 am

Well, it had to happen sooner or later, the troll slid out of the muck and started spouting off about things he knows absolutly nothing about… C’ mon Dave, don’t be a Dick, you’ll still be able to buy your spandex there..

    • Alvis Jenkins March 2, 2018, 7:51 am

…they are identical to military rifles in bore, velocity, capacity, accuracy and lethality (in some cases superior, even) That’s good, because it will suppress any thought by Government that it cannot just run over the citizens when it becomes tyrannical. Ever heard of the IRS being supported by a SWAT Team to invade an American business for alleged tax evasion, where the tax was never owed by the business? American businesses should arm up with AR-15’s and AK-47’s for such an invasion by big Government when it has exceeded its authority over American’s. The IRS is limited to the District of Columbia per 4 U.S.C. Section 72, unless expressly provided otherwise by law, which no law to date has been enacted by Congress. Are YOU a taxpayer to the Federal Mafia (IRS)? If you have never read the tax law, then YOU will remain a slave to the Federal Mafia.

      • Z March 2, 2018, 10:33 pm

I’m a nutshell, are you saying you don’t pay taxes or that we should support our troops and at the same time prepare to kill the police and the IRS?

  • Mark February 28, 2018, 12:54 pm

Hypocrites! Sell-outs! Time for a massive boycott. They should also stop selling ammo, knives, axes, etc. to be consistent.

    • Z March 2, 2018, 10:40 pm

I keep running across that word in the comments section. Why is it hypocritical to stop selling a particular type of firearm? They guy didn’t say he was against gun ownership and then continue to sell guns. He simply chose not to sell a particular type of firearm. If Cabelas stops selling black powder rifles will that make them hypocrites? What if Bass Pro stopped selling B.B. guns? A gunsmith that makes custom bolt action guns but doesn’t work on semi-automatics, hypocrite?

  • Jaque Bauer February 28, 2018, 12:52 pm

They chose an appropriate name for their company.

They are a third rate supplier of guns and gun merchandise. I went in a store one time and never returned. Their action on AR’s insures I will definitely never return

  • Sepp W February 28, 2018, 12:15 pm

Whatever. Dick’s has a lousy firearms selection and the only people that shop there are fashionistas looking for the latest in outdoor/sporting wear and accouterments.

  • Bobs yer uncle February 28, 2018, 11:06 am

And with that Dicks saved the world!!!!

  • Blue Dog February 28, 2018, 10:33 am

Good for Dick’s! I regret that there is not one near me so that I might go support them in their decision. I hope more outdoor chains will support this kind of supply-side solution to gun violence problems in our country. I am most pleased about their deciding to raise the age to purchase firearms to 21.

    • Sepp W February 28, 2018, 3:42 pm

In a free market economy they are free to do whatever they want. The people have the power of the purse though and they (Dick’s) acknowledge it and are willing to accept the risk. They are publically held company and their only motivation is to increase shareholder wealth, time will tell where their politics gets them.
BTW guns are not inherently violent. I will concede though that firearms are used in the commission of violent crimes.

    • Mark N. February 28, 2018, 7:47 pm

There is a law on the federal books banning discrimination based on age. Since it is legal for all 18 year-olds to purchase rifles and shotguns, Dick’s is exposing itself to a civil rights action for age discrimination. At least I certainly hope so. This is virtue signalling at its most obnoxious. It is either that or an excuse for Dick’s (which does not sell ARs through its Dick’s Stores but only through another entity anyway) to withdraw from the gun market, a market in which it has been losing money since its decision after Sandy Hook to not only ban AR style rifles but to renege on the sale of previously ordered firearms.

      • Z March 2, 2018, 11:12 pm

I believe that law applies to hiring and housing, not retail sales.

    • R Beardsley March 2, 2018, 5:49 am

Supply side solution? BS. You are about as smart as Illinois lawmakers who enacted a law a couple of decades ago, revoking driver’s licenses for being involved in a drive-by shooting, stating that “These people takes their driving priveleges seriously.” Really? A murderer will use whatever they have at their disposal. How about banning bricks? Knives? Cars? That jackass in Florida should have been in jail, not school. Liberal thinking was the cause this time – not arresting kids to lower the crime rates in schools. That worked well, didn’t it. And the NRA? Tell me the last time an NRA member was a mass murderer. Lock these people up, and don’t let them out, or put them in a place where they can get help for their mental issues. How much has the press covered or even mentioned the shooter this week? I haven’t heard a thing. It’s all attacks on the NRA, Trump, and Republicans beholden to the NRA. USE YOUR HEAD

    • Laurens March 2, 2018, 6:27 am

What a moronic twit. Criminals and psychopaths do not “normally” acquire their firearms by legal means. Denying legal citizens their civil rights by your “supply side solution” leaves more of the innocent population at risk. Burn this into your brain, twit: As honorable and heroic as our first responders are, they arrive after the fact, as clean-up. Keep believing you’re safe in a “gun free zone”.

    • Alvis Jenkins March 2, 2018, 8:02 am

OK, so they raise the age to 21 and any teenager who knows that he cannot go and purchase a gun from the gun store, will find a way to get a AR-15 or any other such gun to do his dirty deed. All guns can be considered an assault weapon when it is aimed at another person. The problem with this dope-head that got into the school is a “security problem”. However, look for all future schools to be surrounded with high chain-linked fences with electrified barbed wire to keep criminals at bay. No, that won’t work 100% because a criminal will just fire a gun through the chain-linked fence. It’s gona have to be a solid brick wall and this makes for our children to appear as being in a prison.

Send this to a friend
