Feinstein to Introduce Bill to Set Minimum Age - 21 - for All Firearm Purchases

Sen. Dianne Feinstein wants to end gun rights for adults under the age of 21.

The California Democrat said in a press release last week that she plans to introduce such legislation in the coming weeks.

“Under current law, licensed gun dealers cannot sell a handgun to anyone under 21, but they are allowed to sell assault rifles like the AR-15 to anyone over 18. This policy is dangerous and makes absolutely no sense,” said Feinstein.

“I plan to introduce a bill to require all firearms purchases from gun dealers be restricted to individuals who are at least 21 years old. If you can’t buy a handgun or a bottle of beer, you shouldn’t be able to buy an AR-15,” she continued.  “This is common sense and I hope my Republican colleagues will join me in this effort.”

Alan Gottlieb, founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), wondered if Feinstein would extend that logic to voting rights.

“If she had the votes Senator Feinstein would ban everyone from owning modern sporting rifles. She has said that in the past,” noted SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb in an email to GunsAmerica.

Gottlieb, added, “Someone should ask the Senator if an 18-, 19- or 20-year old is not responsible enough, because of their age, to own a gun should they be allowed to vote?”

Setting a minimum age for all firearm purchases isn’t the only bill she’s voiced support for following the mass killing in Parkland, Florida.  Feinstein has also called for a renewal of her ban on “assault weapons.”

Video below shows Feinstein, at a committee hearing last week, speaking about the shooting in Parkland, Florida. Note how she recites the lie that there were 18 school shootings so far this year.  We need to address mass shootings in this country. But to do so, we need to start by agreeing on the facts.  Not hyperbole cooked up by a Bloomberg-funded gun control organization.

When you create a society that gives sanctuary, housing, food, and healthcare to illegal aliens by the millions while our own people are homeless, jobsless, and frustrated you can expect problems.
California says they have a housing shortage and place a tax on the people who work and pay for a house to give free housing to others you have a problem.
How can there be a housing shortage when illegals are getting a place to live? How can there be a shortage when no one is forced to live in that state? Just go elsewhere, find jobs and housing as needed.
Fix the society you (liberals) have created and the shootings will go down.
In Great Britain the cops are starting to carry guns again, why because the gangs have them, but guns are not allowed for ordinary citizens, just those 2 select groups. Gun control? It is working just like ones with any sense at all would expect.

  • Altoidfishfins August 12, 2019, 8:41 am

If Feinstein had her way, she’d raise the minimum age to 91.

  • Galuyasdi August 12, 2019, 7:02 am

The broad is a dried up old biddy who never had a real job in her life……and she thinks she knows what is best for you and I? You serve in the military stupid and see what life is all about. But you can’t make it now and never could, you dumb old hag!!!

  • John Smith February 26, 2018, 10:34 am

I go along with the 21 yr old restriction to purchase a black rifle but they need to raise the voting age to 21 and every person at 18 yrs old should serve minimum of 3 yrs in the armed services. This would put a much needed structure in these kids life and they could go to college at the same time. At the end of the 3 yrs they will have or be on their way to a degree and have a sense of reality. Also will know how to handle a firearm. They will have gone thru mental evaluation and weed out the unstable to never be able to purchase a fire arm…

    • George Lallement March 1, 2018, 6:14 am

I agree whole heartedly. Everyone should do 2or more years in an armed service

    • Rick parsons March 7, 2018, 4:49 pm

It’s seems to me if your old enough to go to war and maybe die for your country your old enough to vote and buy a gun at home
Won’t solve anything a16 year old can drive a car down the sidewalk

  • william kuhlmann February 25, 2018, 6:23 pm

Feinstein needs to announce a bill mandating minimum age of 21 to obtain a driver license, to buy a drink, to marry, to serve in the military and several others and also introduce a bill mandating maximum age for an elected official of 65 and a one term of 4 years maximum for all elected officials. then i’ll be happy to support this bill. till then ; long hike off a short pier ; diane.

  • Kermit Day February 24, 2018, 10:16 pm

WWII, Korea, and Vietnam had thousands of 18 year olds in combat and sacrificing their lives. I was fortunate to be 21 when I completed a tour in 1969 Vietnam. Thank God for these brave young men. Mass killers are more often older deranged men. We shouldn’t vilify 18 year olds just because of a few very sick kids often known to law enforcement. I seriously doubt that combat trained 18 year olds wound hide behind cars as the 4 local officers did. I guarantee they would not hesitate ti engage the threat and neutralize the perpetrator

Listen to her speech, Alzheimers is starting to set in. How long is this ancient harpy gonna keep stealing precious oxygen, food, and water from our world that could go to children?

  • BR February 24, 2018, 11:49 am

Enough is enough. Any politician with an anti gun bias is no longer allowed to carry a gun or to have security that carries guns. That’s right Diane no more .357 in your purse, or armed guards or police to hide behind. This the only way to get this stupidity fixed. You will be out there and as vulnerable as you want to make us. Go fight and die for the likes of that hypocrite? No thanks. I can die for the country at 18 but can’t defend myself in it until I am 21. Brilliant.
Well CA you can still vote her out at 18.
I suggest that should have happened a while ago.

  • BluNos February 24, 2018, 11:33 am

I would like to propose a law that would require members of the United States Congress to pass a mental competency test. Most of the liberals in congress are so old they can barely make a coherent sentence, let alone write laws that affect all citizens. As an example, Nancy Pelosi. Every time she opens her mouth she sounds bat Schiff crazy.

Raise the age to 21. Raise the age to 21 for Selective Service as well.

  • David February 23, 2018, 8:56 pm

Filthy politicians can send 19 year old men and women off to fight in foreign countries and die while at the same time taking away the very constitutional rights that they are fighting for. F**K THEM!

  • Carl Tests February 23, 2018, 7:26 pm

If they can’t operate a rifle until they are 21, then they should also not be eligible to be drafted until they are 21 and should not be able to join the armed forces until they are 21. Of course, banning the purchase of any firearms by anyone less than age 21 does not necessarily mean that they cannot operate one or do things like hunting under control of their parents (or anyone else for that matter). Some states do put limitations on that sort of thing. Someone also suggested that they should not be able to vote until age 21, and that makes some sense too. Of course, the real problem in these things appears to mental illness and a failure of the system to effectively identify problems before they happen even though existing laws seem to be in place to prevent them.

  • skipNclair February 23, 2018, 7:21 pm

Old enough to serve in the military from 17 and up, old enough then to die for your country, and your telling these men they cannot purchase a weapon, or gun. This proves your insanity, espically since this piece to garbage will be sending your sons to fight in those wars.

  • Dennis Weiss February 23, 2018, 5:44 pm

  • Herbert B WILLIAMS February 23, 2018, 4:01 pm

I had an gun at 14 to hunt rabbits and birds. My truck had a gun rack in the back window. I drove my truck to school. I didn’t shoot anyone at school. If you want to stop the shooting Ms Feinstein stop the Violence coming from the movies being produced in your state, and start supporting my rights.

Read the Federalist Paper #29 by James Hamilton and you will realize why we have the 2nd Amendment.

  • Mr Shifter February 23, 2018, 3:36 pm

I’m a gun collector/target shooter Republican, age 63, and actually I thought the required age for a long gun was 21 just like the age to buy a pistol….oh well,…. Anywho, if the teens around your area’s are anything like the ones around here (NW FL) the requirement to own any weapon besides a BB/pellet gun/rifle should be 21. Most, NOT ALL, 18 year old’s seem to be non caring, don’t give a shit, I want it now, start me at the top, PlayStation SOB’s that I would not trust with a weapon…..heck their brains haven’t even matured yet. And why have so many of you brought up the draft, good grief, hasn’t been a draft per se since 1973. Sure you have to register for the military draft, but being drafted, very slight chance of that. I was a “First Shirt” in the USAF from 1996 until 2000. For those whom do not know, a First Shirt is the first one to which a troubled airman turns when he or she needs serious help. In those years I noticed the newer recruits 18-19 year old’s had much more serious issues with discipline than just one generation ago, and now 18 years later, we likely have the worse disciplined generation ever. I could go on and on, but, MY personal opinion, it should be 21 to own any black powder firing weapon…..and for those of you whom disagree, so be it. Remember, “Opinions are like assholes…..everybody’s got one”.

    • Gstaat February 23, 2018, 5:49 pm

Here again is another prized piece of leftist-liberal mentality, which of course is based solely on emotions and subjective opinions without consideration of facts. They thrive on knee-jerk responses and are willing to lie, whip the victim mentality into a frenzy of mouth frothing insanity. This will of course breed more incursions of school invaders and copy-cats into “Gun-Free Zones” which are proudly advertised as such on every door. This mental illness thing needs better control and under current laws they are not supposed to have access to firearms anyway. Here again is another problem, we rely on those deemed mentally troubled to take care of their own situation and maintaining their medication schedules. Little supervision. The question with the Florida tragedy is how did he buy that rifle? A lot of Money talks. I can’t afford an AR much less all the rounds that it would go through, how could this guy? What about the background check that should have produced all sorts of red flags? The next entry mentions laws are meant to control the lawful. True. The lawless could care less what Feinstein is shrilly screaming about.

    • David L Livernois February 23, 2018, 6:47 pm

But they can go to a foreign shit hole and die in the military. I’m sorry but if their old enough to die for their country they should be old enough to enjoy it’s freedoms. Pick and age of adulthood and that’s it your an adult . Drink buy guns join the army. Same same.

    • ExGob February 23, 2018, 8:42 pm

I, too, was a gun collector for over 50 years, until I had to sell all of them to pay the funeral home for their services when I lost my wife five years ago.
I enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17 ( I’m 80 now ) and served over 10 years on active duty aboard various ships and stations.

With regard to the last sentence of your dissertation, I agree, and I have one asshole and a couple of opinions. The first is this: Your opinion that many of today’s 18 year olds make it seem like their mothers are bitches. A bitch is a female canine. Most males respect and defend their mothers and they don’t allow anyone to make derogatory remarks about them. Call someone’s mother a bitch and expect to get your damn nose busted.

Now to the draft. True, we have not used the draft since the Vietnam war, but the possibility still exists. The United States Selective Service System is still active and all males and legal aliens living in the USA are required, by law, to register with the SSS within 30 days of their 18th birthday or the day they entered the United States. Retention of members of our armed forces is not nearly high enough to keep military strength levels at what will be necessary in the event of another war. Yes, we are at war with terrorists, but I’m referencing war with North Korea, China and/or Russia. That possibility is there, too. And if we do again have to use the draft, I seriously doubt that the minimum draft age will be set at 21.

I do believe that if we are going to make anyone subject to the draft before age 21, then we also need to make them eligible for all benefits reserved for those 21 and over. Of course, maybe the best change to make would be to mandate that adulthood begins at 21, then the ages of 18, 19 and 20 wouldn’t have to be addressed.

  • MJ February 23, 2018, 2:27 pm

Laws are meant to control the lawful. To those that disregard, they are useless and meaningless. When they count the number of laws broken it’s just a list of ineffective measures that had no effect on prevention. You cannot legislate morality, you can only teach it. The only deterrent fo an attacker is not knowing who is armed.

    • RJB February 24, 2018, 6:55 am

Really wanna make the socialists head s explode, why not raise the age for driving and owning a cell phone 21, kids driving with cell phones are killing thousands of people due to inattentive driving and phone usage while driving. If were going to pick and choose lets pick and choose everything that’s killing people. Iv’e had it with the democraps and their gun control agenda, that’s ALL they do. Nothing more than the national socialist party of the Hitler era only it’s called the new world order now.

Then lets take a page from the Libturd play book make it across the to be considered and adult you have to be 21 years old with the only exception being unless you are serving or have served on active duty in the military !!! So to do any of the following you must present a Federal Government Issued Photo ID. To Buy a gun, Vote, Drive, Get Married and for the icing on the cake the age of sexual consent should be “21” !! And then sit back and watch the dumbasses who wanted this shit crawfish on raising the age of anything !!

  • Dave Brown February 23, 2018, 1:00 pm

Let me see, back when I was 18 my Draft Number for Nam was 252. My State would not allow me to drink until I was 21. I had to be 16 to drive, or 14 for a school – work permit. Same rules today, but no more draft. I beleive some states won’t allow you to drive until your 18, and none allow a legal contract to be mades until you reach and age of majority which is 18. I really do not see a big deal in saying you must be 21 to buy an AR, AK, even SKS or my Favs a MAC. If a kid wants an AR they can have their parents sign for it. Now they may regulate the age of possession to 21 which would mean the parent has to be with them. I started doing guns about 52 years ago at 13. My dad had had enough of guns in WW2, but he would sign for me, and after 16 I could go shooting on my own. Did any of that hurt of stop me NO. I have seen lots of Gun Control Laws come and go, and none of them hurt me in anyway. Yes the 2nd is written in stone by wise men, yet they were talking black power firearms and not my MACs, SKSs, AKs, and so many more. Do you think they would think twice today, Yep. Freedom has a price, I can pay a little in to continue my Freedom in this great USA.

    • Micgael February 23, 2018, 2:40 pm

The first semi automatic weapon was created in China in 400 BC. It had a top loading magazine that held ten crossbow bolts. A bolt is an arrow for crossbows. It could be rapidly fired and reloaded. It could fire 40 bolts in one minute. The first rapid firing firearm was created in 1330 AD. It held 12 shots. It could be fired all at once or individually. I am not sure how long this one took to reload though. So rapid firing weapons have been around for alot longer than most people realize.

    • ejharb March 18, 2018, 3:29 am

Yes by all means let’s keep infringing! Mrs “if I could have got the votes it’d be Mr and Mrs america turn them ALL in”Feinstein approves of that!

  • Briley February 23, 2018, 12:32 pm

Feinstein is searching for a legacy and has decided that this is the only game in town for her. The information is out there that gun bans do not work but still she continues to push for them. The 18 year old vote came because of Viet Nam – now it is a right granted in the Constitution. She evidently respects that right but does not think the right to arms is applicable to 18 year olds – can’t have it both ways, either both stay or both go. It is only logical. She is ignorant just like so many other liberal/progressive that think they can mold people to their lop-sided, dumb and naive ideals, not realizing the human drive for freedom and self-determination is much more powerful. The two extremes that bring about revolution are poverty and slavery. People like Feinstein and her minions may well bring about both, and so must disarm the populus and make them impotent. I wish the young understood this. Beware. Naivety sucks.

  • Brian Fletcher February 23, 2018, 12:15 pm

And while were at it add an amendment to raise the voting age to 21 also. If teenagers can’t be trusted with a firearm at age 18 they sure as hell can’t be trusted to not vote for corrupt politicians currently in office who are going to be running for re-election in the fall. And for those who whine that since 17-to-20 year old’s can join the military, be given a gun and sent to a foreign land to die at some politicians whim, they should be able to vote. I say sorry they VOLUNTEERED to be in the service, they weren’t drafted or forced to join. And they still can’t smoke and drink at the clubs until they are 21! I would however be in favor of an exemption for those youngsters under 21 serving on active duty though. Just more “feel good, look at me I did something” BS put forth by a politician wanting to be reelected even though she is well past her prime and should have retired years ago!

  • Paul Knutson February 23, 2018, 11:59 am

I can understand the reasoning to raise the age to 21 and really don’t have a problem with it BUT this would mean you need to follow with other restrictions like voting and criminal restrictions as treating these individuals as minors. You can not have it both ways. Feinstein does need to go, she is a splinter in the finger of Americas. There are a lot of politicians on both side that need to be replaced, there outdated and unrealistic views are hindering American from going forward. The Demos that refuse to work with each other and the republicans need to go now and be replaced. These individual are no longer working for the people they represent.

  • Vic Wright February 23, 2018, 11:51 am

The problem with Feinstein, Pelosi, Harris and their ilk is, they think they can legislate “crazy” people into being normal. This fact alone makes them just as crazy, and more politically dangerous, than the nut jobs that are conducting the mass murders. I have a better approach. Make it a federal crime to report on mass murders! Part of the problem is crazy people like attention and the media easily provides this benefit. How many “on the fence” crazies wake up every morning with the soul purpose of studying the murders in Florida and becoming mentally excited about all of the attention. It is just a matter of time before that trigger is pulled within their head and then we will have another one. But as we have all seen over the last 18-months, the media organizations are no longer strictly reporting the news. They are selectively politicizing every word to promote their agenda. Make no mistake, their agenda is to get rid of guns and disarm the American public. If you do not think I am right, just change the word “crazy” and insert “politician”. The media already controls them and didn’t have to take away one of my constitutional rights to do it.

    • Mike H. February 28, 2018, 11:59 am

You are 100% correct! Excellent point!

    • ejharb March 18, 2018, 3:36 am

Ever notice how the guns used in the last few mass shootings are ar15s? The media says they are the best gun for the job! And the scumbags use em again and again! Seldom hear of aks being used lately.

  • Tripwire February 23, 2018, 11:41 am

And yet there are Dimocraps talking about letting 16 year old kids vote. Of course it’s all about gaining more dimocrap voters. 21 to buy a gun? Ok then 21 to vote and be drafted.

  • markle laws February 23, 2018, 11:36 am

Make it a law that you have to be 21 to buy anything and if you buy something for an under 21 except proper clothes school books ( and these books must be edited for content) and food you can be placed in jail for 30 days and this includes movie tickets. It’s california it might pass if the movie ticket provision is removed.

  • Eddy February 23, 2018, 11:25 am

If Senator Feinstein and other hysteric democrats manage to pass a minimum age law for firearms purchase, she will in one stroke nullify the 2nd Amendment. Here’s why:
    “10 U.S.C. § 311 – U.S. Code Title 10. Armed Forces
    (a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32 , under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are … ”
In other words, if she should succeed in raising the age limit, she will invalidate US law, and the 2nd Amendment on which US law is built.

  • William M Durham February 23, 2018, 11:05 am

Anyone backing this idea is going to face the rath of the under 21 crew who want to own guns, and there are alot more than this old bict thinks, enough to really screw up someone re-election chances

    • JGH February 23, 2018, 3:35 pm

Well you know that wouldn’t work since Democrats think your are a child until you reach the age of 24.

  • John Logan February 23, 2018, 9:46 am

Another case of reactionary legislating with no forethought. Example – what about all the millions of hunters under the age of 21 who will not be able to hunt unless someone loans them a long gun? Will that be legal or is the loaning of a long gun to a hunter under 21 going to be a criminal act? CA is creating an overlapping set of gun control laws that need to be examined as a full set rather than on a onesie twosie basis.

  • Ironman February 23, 2018, 9:39 am

So, you can vote, drive a car (that kills more people than guns do), get drafted or volunteer to serve in the military and be sent to war, start a family and have children, and run up more debt than anyone should have, etc., etc., etc., but you can’t legally have a beer or now purchase a firearm? An 18 yr. old can participate in deciding the future of our sliding society, but is not mature enough to properly possess a firearm (how about a knife, sword, fireworks/gun power, etc., etc.). As one of my fellow soldiers with me in the desert during Desert Storm put it, “I can be sent to go die for my country, but I can’t have a dam beer!”.
I agree that the thought of some 18 yr. olds having a gun (or a car, or any item sharper than a butter knife) is scary, but I know some adults that the thought of them crossing the street by themselves is scary (they should never drive a car). Passing more laws is not the answer, especially when we can’t/won’t enforce the laws we already have. As an example – Our automobile licensing system is a joke. They renewed the drivers license of my mother-in-law who has had two strokes and went in using a walker and dragging her right leg that won’t work. No problem, here is your license. No, she will never find her keys!
Unfortunately you can’t mandate common sense and some folks are just and trying to push an agenda (no survival of the fittest any more and some people just live too long and reproduce more – No, it is not limited to any race or ethnic group.). In our current environment we need to secure our schools and protect our kids. Doing so has nothing to do with passing gun laws that only impact law abiding citizens. Schools (and other well identified areas) are free kill zones. Nut jobs know that they are the only ones that will be armed in the area, so that is where they go. Passing laws, any laws, that only impact law abiding individuals will have no impact on the problems our society is facing.

  • Frank February 23, 2018, 9:17 am

This woman like all Democrats are totally delusional and should be committed. They are a danger to society and create more division in America.

  • Jds February 23, 2018, 8:39 am

Ok, but while she’s at it, she should also change the voting age, the age to enlist in the military, the age of consent, the age to get a driver’s license, and the age to use the internet to 21.

    • Frank February 23, 2018, 9:22 am

Democrats have actually tried to change the voting age… lowering it to 16 to capture more votes.

    • Jim February 23, 2018, 10:34 am

What about abortion? Is that legal at 18 too. Now that’s quite the situation… Taking a life in that way no matter how you look at it

  • Robert Richter February 23, 2018, 8:30 am

I agree that the age to buy a gun should be raised to 21. However, if you want to handle a weapon at 18 then join the military. That could solve recruitment issues. Here’s a novel idea. We should fully implement and enforce the laws already on the books. For example: The USAF and FBI are responsible for the last two mass shooters getting their weapons. .

    • Eric February 23, 2018, 10:23 am

No, I don’t think the age should be raised. When I was in college, my girlfriend had a class or two on the college campus that ended around 5:30. In the middle of winter, it is dark. On campus, there was a known problem with rapes. She was/is physically attractive, and I wound up buying her a handgun for self-protection (we went to the range often to train).

Now this was years ago, and laws have changed back and forth in different places, but we were both much more at ease, knowing she had a way to protect herself. When high school is over, so is living in a controlled environment. Anyone who works as an adult, who is not a felon, should have a fair opportunity to carry. This proposal is yet another short-sighted effort, perhaps aimed at criminal activity, but like a shotgun at a distance, will cause a lot more surrounding damage than it will ever fix.

  • Dilligaf February 23, 2018, 8:17 am

That still wont stop a mentally deranged teen from getting a firearm. If someone wants a gun bad enough, he or she will get it….just like drugs. Drugs are illegal but people still manage to get it easily

What happens when the next shooter waits till he is 21 and uses a shotgun. A 22” barrel with 8 rounds of buckshot and a few reloads would be as terrible in a school hallway.

Or if he just used a 6 shot revolver with speed loader while he was 19 years old? Then we would ban speed loafers? A .357 magnum with speed loaders can be very dangerous in a tight school hallway.

Then we ban it all and the shooter uses a 3d printed cross bow.

  • Kim February 23, 2018, 8:10 am

The AR-15 is not an Assault Rifle, it is a Semi Automatic Rifle with features that make it look like M-16 Assault Rifle

    • Justin Miller February 23, 2018, 9:54 am

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck. It’s a duck.

      • Art February 23, 2018, 12:30 pm

Only it does not quack like a duck. Difference is the way it’s fired.

        • ExGob February 23, 2018, 11:24 pm

The AR15 fires no differently than any other magazine fed, semi-automatic, center-fire rifle and offers no more advantages than any of the others. If it’s an ‘assault’ weapon, so are all the others. For that matter, any firearm, knife, sword, hatchet, machete, stick or anything else is an assault weapon if that’s what it’s used for.

  • Robert February 23, 2018, 7:18 am

If this old hag succeeds then rightly fully one can not be in military nor vote till 21.

  • Ken Wilkinson February 23, 2018, 7:14 am

Old enough to Vote, old enough to exercise any of your constitutional rights.

  • shrugger February 23, 2018, 7:13 am

That’s fine so long as selective service and voting age are raised to 21.

    • bonavajo February 23, 2018, 8:27 am

I agree. Add can’t drink alcohol or use weed until 21 plus not an adult until 21.

  • Rick Lingenfelter February 23, 2018, 7:06 am

If 18 year old male and females are old enough to join the military and fight and die for our Country how in the world can you tell them they are unfit to purchase a firearm, rifle for hunting or sporting. The problem with these Democrats they do not enforce the laws we have now, like illegals coming to our country and demanding they have having the same rights as Americans do. They love to pick and choose and then push more stupid ideas or talking points instead of just accepting and obeying the laws we have. Their ideology is the laws are good for some but not good for them, this group of citizens have their rules and selective enforcement. Mass killings can be done with many items and means, guns are not the problem, mental health and extremism needs addressed more than gun control.

    • David Telliho February 23, 2018, 7:48 am

If mental health becomes criteria for gun purchase, then it also should be a likewise criteria for holding public office, drivers license, fishing license, voting, hunting license, open a bank account, borrow money, hold a job,own a pet,and yes, live. But , I have a question. Who gets to decide what`s “normal” ? Who gets to write the psych tests ? I suggest, no one but a complete matoid will ever be able to qualify to purchase a gun, therefore, only liberals will be armed.

    • Robert Richter February 23, 2018, 8:31 am

Lack of enforcement is the main problem like immigration.

  • Chuck-B454 February 23, 2018, 6:56 am

If these liberal nutjobs want to raise the minimum age for buying a firearm to 21, then we have to demand that the age of adulthood be raised to 21! No buying guns, no buying booze, no buying smokes, and definitely no voting!

  • GRA February 23, 2018, 6:42 am

This basically involves raising the national suffrage age limit to age 21. Later it will be 25 (just watch). And yes I agree that Congress needs to give up some of their own for a change and term limits with age limits are a minimum point of no negotiation.

  • Gary Ramey February 23, 2018, 6:33 am

If we are redefining an “adult” as 21 years of age and that is what people want, then make it a law.
But we must also restrict people under 21 on other adult items.
They will be restricted from the following:
    1. Drive a car
    2. Vote
    3. Drink
    4. Enlisting in the military

    That should go over well.

    • John February 23, 2018, 8:13 am

Number one cause of death for our youth is cars. 11 teens per day die, each day, texting while driving.

  • Steven February 23, 2018, 6:21 am

How about doing something to help the disturbed individual?

  • Steven February 23, 2018, 6:17 am

Yep, you disturbed youngsters will have to get your firearms elsewhere (not a problem) , or resort to another means of committing murder(s) (again, not a problem), or simply put off your evil intentions until you turn 21. Not a fix at all, just a gun grabber exploiting an opportunity to chip away at the 2nd Amendment.

  • Marine1958 February 23, 2018, 6:14 am

If those under 21 can’t be trusted enough to purchase long guns, then why should they be trusted with voting? Of course the Socialist Democratic Party couldn’t exist without those 18-21 aged voters!

  • John February 23, 2018, 5:30 am

It makes no sense to that brain dead b…., but, putting an M16 in an 18 year old hands and telling him to protect our country does.
Well hell, I guess when he’s done serving his country, he can just wait before he can earn the right to own the civilian model AR 15, now that makes perfect sense!

  • ed toomey February 23, 2018, 5:21 am

well no more draft of 18 year olds I guess.

    • Justin Miller February 23, 2018, 10:14 am

There is no Draft in America only registering at 18. Did you notice the name calling about Democrats. These are Fox news watchers that are brainwashed to hate other Americans that do not agree with their ideology and foreigners of different colors. So who is splitting America apart.

  • Leighton Cavendish February 23, 2018, 5:00 am

So will they raise the draft age to 21 as well…add women? Equal rights for all!
How about 21 to vote and drive, as well? Seems like common sense to me.

  • joe February 23, 2018, 4:22 am

That old hag Feinstein and her partner in gun grabbing legislation Pelosi never saw a gun grab bill they didn’t foster. The answer is TERM LIMITS people. No more lifetime politicians and their top notch medical coverage and pensions on the backs of the taxpayers.

    • joefoam February 23, 2018, 8:04 am

Term limits are definitely the answer. No more career politicians. When the founders of this great country outlined the legislative process, it was never imagined that someone would dedicate their life to politics. Back then, you did the job as a public service for one term and then went back home to your family.

      • Steve February 23, 2018, 8:45 am

For sure! How she kept getting reelected is cause for concern. Limits fix it. Neither of the two hags ever let a tragedy go to waste. Dems sure like their ugly women.

  • Sheepdog February 23, 2018, 4:11 am

Yeah, I really don’t have problem with it being raised to 21 across the board. Anyone that grew up with firearms is going to own one long before they’re 21 anyways. When I turned 13 (which was in 2000), my dad bought me a 12 gauge Mossberg 500,

  • Sandman February 23, 2018, 3:59 am

21 to buy a gun ———-But you can be 18 and be trained by the military, go to the Sandbox if you are lucky enough to make it home and some senile old woman or man in the Senate or Congress decides that you should not be able to own a gun—I have a great idea–term limits or maybe you cant serve as a rep if you are older than 65.

    • Ray Carstens February 23, 2018, 7:17 am

agreee…let our numbnut leaders know whos boss

    • Art February 23, 2018, 12:36 pm

Yeah, retire them at age 65.

  • Big John February 23, 2018, 3:57 am

If 18, 19 and 20 year old’s are not mature enough to drink alcohol OR NOW to possess a rifle, they certainly aren’t mature enough to vote (having a close look at most Millennials, this statement isn’t merely tongue on cheek). It can be argued as a “class” they do more damage in the voting booth than they do as a “class” with either alcohol or rifles. No honest person can deny this logical correlation.

I saw give the Dems their way AS LONG AS THEY also repeal the 26th Amendment. Of course it would never happen because the Democrats would loose a larger portion of support from the 18-20 year old voting block.

Before I hear any of that “18, 19 and 20 year olds (should have the right to vote because they) could be armed by their government and sent to die in the Middle East” crap. When you’re that age in the military you are still a kid, but you have plenty of adult supervision (i.e.- under senior NCO’s and Officers). I could attest to this from experience, I left home at 16, was “emancipated” by the courts and joined the army a month after I turned 17. I was a Cherry Paratrooper before my classmates graduated High School and we were ALL KIDS until our second month in a combat zone or our second enlistment (whichever came first)….it’s funny, our Platoon Ssergeants never mentioned we had a vote when he made our daily decisions.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is full of shit!

    • gary February 23, 2018, 5:07 am

Agree 100%, if you aren’t mature enough to buy a gun, you aren’t mature enough to vote.

    • John February 23, 2018, 8:07 am

I was a 19 year old Marine Corporal.

I was also topgun shooter in my platoon because my dad and grandfather had me shooting at age 12 and onwards.

  • Blue Dog February 20, 2018, 5:07 pm

It is interesting that Gottlieb connects firearm ownership and voting thusly, since the voting age was 21 until it was lowered to 18 by the 26th Amendment in 1971. AND one of the slogans that gained popularity for lowering the voting age was pointing out that 18, 19 and 20 year olds could be armed by their government and sent to die in Viet Nam.
Nonetheless, any such prohibition would be incomplete. Interstate purchases should also be prohibited, like with handguns. Further, there is a loophole currently with handguns that 18, 19 and 20 year olds cannot purchase handguns or handgun ammunition but not are prohibited from possessing or owning them. That loophole should close too.

Assault rifles, high-capacity magazines, and concealed pistols are all around you. Hundreds of millions of them. You can’t take them away from us. Your frustration satisfies me deeply.
