First Look at CZ Scorpion Evo3 S1

Authors S.H. Blannelberry

Braving the frigid, sub-20 degree temperatures on a frozen, wind-blown range in Wichita, Kansas, GunsAmerica met up with Funker Tactical and Daniel Shaw to shoot and discuss the CZ Scorpion Evo3 S1.

In the video you see above, the retired U.S. Marine Infantry Unit Leader gives us his first impression of the Scorpion, which is slated to be one of the headliners at SHOT Show 2015.

MSRP: $849

Stay tuned for a full GunsAmerica review.

Are these “Scorpions” descendants of the old Soviet era 7.65 mm (.32ACP) open bolt, blow-back, cheesy top folding stock terrorist/assassin weapons, or is this a totally different lineage?

Thumb over bore with his thumb basically on the flash suppressor. Good thing he was wearing gloves.

Other then the limited fun factor, I see little use for it. A Glock 17L with a 32 round mag would out shoot it. Firing a little 9mm from a nose heavy bulky platform does not make it better. Lots of rails to add more “stuff”. Tacti-cool for the non tactical. They want to add a tube/Sig brace too! Please do all that. Then shoot it against the Glock or other reliable 9mm. Publish the results and post the vid. It is what it is but people always try to make it fill another niche. Car gun? This would be a recommendation for a car gun? At just under $900 this is the best option for that kind of money? Really or hypothetical like you could use it as a hammer too? Speak the truth, it will set you free.

Tacti-cool for Tacti-fools. Its too big to be used as a concealable pistol and too small and unstable to be used as a rifle. Although some may wish it was in 5.56mm test have shown the 9mm has more penetration the only good point with this Tacti-fool weapon. The plasticky see through magazine looks like it would go snap, crackle and pop the first time someone accidentally dropped it. Of course the rest of the gun looks to be made of plasticky and stamped sheet metal parts. $30 dollars worth of parts for an $800 and some dollars gun dropped out of a plasticky industrial mold and a stamped sheet metal press. Manufacture time probably about a couple of hours tops. Excuse me while I barf.

Give it a selector switch, change it to fire from an open bolt and install a folding stock. A suppressor too, of course. Otherwise, why?

I like my CZ’s for their function, not their looks. Boring, aren’t I?

Question is… is there a way to attack a SIG brace to it? This would be a PERFECT home defense weapon!

    • OKNewshawk January 12, 2015, 12:14 pm

Yes, CZ is making a buffer tube assembly that fits on to the butt end to attach a brace to it.

Overall, I like it. It has a lot going for it. Fair price (hopefully), CZ quality (hopefully), 9mm economy, make a great SBR. The only drawback to me is that it’s a little “clunky” looking. I’d like it more if it was slimmer like the AK and AR pistols. There’s gonna be a lot of competition in this style.

I have put this unit up so many times and found that although my personal instincts were absolutely on the money my home state refuse to take it off the no fly list. We in Connecticut are being persecuted over BS and want to move out ASAP. But it’s pretty stupid to leave over some thing like this isn’t it, never the less on my agenda.
