Four-Time Felon Attempts to Rob Concealed Carrier on Chicago Train…

Defensive Use of Firearms This Week

Chicago has long been known as a city with some of the strictest gun laws; laws that were passed in an effort to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and increase the overall safety of the city. Are these laws living up to the hype?

The short answer: No!

The long answer: Regardless of any law restricting or prohibiting firearms, criminals will continue to find and use them.

On Friday, January 20, shortly before 5:00 pm, a 25-year-old bank security guard was riding the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) home when Darius Moss, 33, who has been arrested 32 times by Chicago police and convicted of four felonies since 2014, boarded his train car and started staring at him while smoking, reports Fox News.

An argument ensued until Moss revealed a firearm and proceeded to announce a robbery. Holding the victim at gunpoint, Moss allegedly took the man’s keys, phone, credit card, and, notably, his concealed carry license.

Moss threatened to shoot the victim if he did not exit the train at Cicero station, according to prosecutor Christopher Cromydas, as he recounted the story before Judge Maryam Ahmad during the bail hearing for Moss.

After stepping off the train at Cicero station, the guard pulled out his own firearm on the platform. He then re-entered the train and launched into a “firefight” with Moss where he expended 18 rounds, four of which jammed, Cromydas continued.

“Wait, wait, wait,” Judge Ahmad interjected. “A firefight on the train?”

“Yes, your honor,” Cromydas confirmed, explaining that the gunfight took place on the train and the platform.

Of the 18 rounds, Moss was only shot once in the leg, according to the Chicago police. Additionally, the victim was not injured, and there were no other injuries reported.

After the firefight, Moss exited at the Cicero station while the victim continued riding the train for approximately 3.5 miles to the Laramie station, where he identified himself to the police and explained what happened.

Chicago cops found Moss walking in the Cicero station area and recovered the victim’s property from his possession, along with a revolver that contained four bullets and one spent casing.

“It is a pure miracle by the grace of God that no one was killed, that no innocent bystander was killed,” Judge Ahmad remarked.

According to the public defender assigned to Moss, he has two children and is pursuing a career as a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technician.

He is charged with armed habitual criminal and armed robbery with a firearm. Judge Ahmad was barred from holding Moss without bail because prosecutors did not ask her to.

“This is just ridiculous. Ridiculous,” Ahmad continued before ordering Moss to pay a $25,000 deposit toward bail to be released before trial.

    I carry a gun because I can’t carry a cop.They are obese.

  • Charles February 1, 2023, 5:11 pm

Bang, bang, he shot him down… About time someone stood up the the criminals in Chicago. Dirty Harry with a concealed carry permit.

  • Kane January 30, 2023, 10:37 am

No, no “miracle.” Would anyone Angel waste a miracle on someone like Moss while so many other terrible events occur? Not every freak occurance is a “miracle.” Poor marksmanship is the simple explanation and a lucky break for anyone in the area.

  • William Douglas January 30, 2023, 8:11 am

Ask yourself this question, why is a guy who’s been arrested thirty-two times and convicted of four felonies since 2014, still out on the street. Illinois Democrats just passed a no cash bail law for most crimes, so the criminal is often release before the police can complete their paperwork, and to make matters worse, the Democrats also passed a bill to further restrict the citizens second amendment rights. We can’t take anymore from the Illinois Democrats, we just put our Illinois home up for sale.

    • Mark January 30, 2023, 9:56 am

Good luck selling it. Personally you couldn’t pay me to live in Illinois.

    • Kane January 30, 2023, 10:27 am

Cook County runs Illinois and delivers the state to the Dems. There are about 100 countys in Illinois, pull Cook and maybe one or two others and the State is no longer a one party state.

    • MattyP January 31, 2023, 1:13 pm

      Broken system…

  • Fred January 29, 2023, 12:03 pm

Would not happen in my state of course we don’t have subways /thank god / but we do have plenty of concealed weapons and know how to use them / please send your thugs to the great state of Mississippi and we will handle the rest/ we don’t have too many queer judges however Jackson is going to hell as fast as they can!!! But the men in my county will add to the land fill when needed !!! Chicago is a lost cause

    • MattyP January 31, 2023, 1:14 pm

      Just one question… why Mississippi?

  • Fred lovett January 29, 2023, 11:50 am

Somebody needs training on use of a firearm

  • chum lee January 28, 2023, 11:28 am

Between the nose ring and the dentition, I was too distracted to follow the narrative.

  • Dutch January 27, 2023, 11:36 pm

Well, this is very typical of the effectiveness of Chicago’s gun laws. They don’t work, AND WERE NEVER MEANT TO. Pritzker must be very proud of his liberal judges. Turning felons out on the street as soon as they walk in the courtroom is their specialty. The degradation of Chicago is wholly from the incompetence of the socialist democratic party, and the ignorance of the people of Chicago for letting it happen. The only bad thing about this whole story is the victim didn’t shoot straight enough to remove this piece of shit from society, once and for all.

  • Ray Flaherty January 27, 2023, 3:59 pm

Obviously the victim could use a LOT of practice with his handgun, not to mention the 4 misfires that point to issues with his ammo and weapon maintenance.

    • MattyP January 31, 2023, 1:15 pm

My thoughts exactly. This is why we train. Learning your weapon is just as important as learning how to shoot it straight.

  • jerry January 27, 2023, 1:33 pm

We used to take our young kids to Chicago to the museums. We would walk from the train station (and back, in the evening) to the museum, about 1.3 miles. That was 40 years ago. We went to restaurants in Chicago by car with grandkids just five years ago. Today, and ever since the recent “mostly peaceful” riots, I refuse to step foot on those sidewalks. Why, oh why, do they keep electing the same woke leftists in Chicago? And worse, about 35% of the downstate citizens vote for those Chicago democrats for State offices.

  • Shanz January 27, 2023, 1:03 pm

Seriously? So this guy is just let back out to kill somebody? I’m so fucking disgusted with our country. Truly sick times. Look up the motor officer who was murdered last month in San Bernardino because of a judge doing the same thing.

    • chupakis January 28, 2023, 11:29 am

Gotta save jail space for the Jan 6 paraders still being hunted down.

  • Wild January 27, 2023, 11:27 am

…also would like to add that the guard is not a poster child for a responsible armed citizen. He was already out of harms way and acted irresponsibly by returning and firing on the perp. Thankfully only the thug was injured.

    • MattyP January 27, 2023, 12:33 pm

      Agreed

    • TB January 27, 2023, 7:31 pm

Not sure if I agree. We don’t know the other circumstances involved. He may have just stepped off to take enough cover to engage the suspect. Also, by getting back on and engaging the suspect, he may have prevented the suspect from robbing and possibly killing other victims on the train. As far as the amount of rounds fired and the jams, I am curious of the weapon and the condition of it. May have been user error. I don’t think that most security guards get a high level of training when it comes to firearms, firearm quality and maintenance. Then again, we don’t know all of the circumstances.

    • Melissa January 27, 2023, 8:46 pm

This is just my opinion and I can say if you come at me as threat and clear a present danger to cause harm. I would not hesitate one bit. You will be judged with absolute impunity.

  • Wild January 27, 2023, 11:16 am

How could this occur? Chicago commuter trains are gun free zones!!!

What that really means is that the trains are metal tubes filled with easy victims for bad guys with guns. It’s a mass shooting waiting to happen. Please note that there is no TSA type security, no metal detectors upon boarding and no policing on the trains whatsoever, only unarmed conductors policing for fares. If the CTA wants to avoid a bloody mass shooting event, they must allow legal concealed carry on the trains. Unfortunately, the leadership doesn’t care about riders safety, only their leftist political agenda to disarm law abiding citizens and turn everyone into victims.

The guard, though legal as a concealed carrier, was not legally carrying on the train. I’m interested to see if he will be charged. Probably will get punished more severely than the perp.

    • MattyP January 27, 2023, 12:32 pm

Very good points! Let’s see where this will go.

  • Robert Lee January 27, 2023, 10:03 am

Bad shot for sure… I can’t point the finger though as I have never been in a gunfight. One would hope a guard would have had training but probably not. As for the bail all this makes sense if you take into account the object Federal law enforcement and Soros prosecutors is the destruction of America.

    • MattyP January 27, 2023, 11:42 am

Shows that we all should train, right? Even on our own dime. As for the destruction of America, we certainly have some areas we should give our focus to other than restricting firearms.

  • Phil January 27, 2023, 9:03 am

I would say a trip to Gunsite for Cromydas is in order.

    • MattyP January 27, 2023, 11:29 am

This shows the importance of training. Do you think restricting firearms will also limit training opportunities?

  • Darth Kur January 27, 2023, 8:03 am

What is “ridiculous” is that this obviously unreformed career criminal keeps getting released and that the clearly incompetent Chicago prosecutors deem that it was acceptable for this piece of garbage to be eligible for bail.

    • MattyP January 27, 2023, 11:30 am

      Agreed.

  • Richard A Baker January 27, 2023, 6:31 am

Make crime illegal not guns. Perhaps I missed something, but whatever happened to 3 strikes? It should be reinstated for violent criminals. Why do Politician’s get things backwards, OH, I know, because they are so isolated from the everyday American, they have no idea what life is really like in this country.

    • MattyP January 27, 2023, 11:31 am

I think you hit some real points here. Let’s focus on areas that are really broken.

  • Laddyboy January 27, 2023, 6:11 am

It is a shame the government is RENEGING on its RESPONSIBILITY to keep the NORMAL INNOCENT People safe! It IS a SHAME the INEPT government has shown their DERELICTION OF DUTY which FORCED a person to DO THE GOVERNMENT’S JOB! The FIRST RESPONDER in this case MUST NOT be prosecuted!!!

    • Carroll Hale III January 27, 2023, 8:05 am

It’s the government’s job to keep us safe in the macro sense by keeping an army and making laws. On a day-to-day basis we are responsible for our own safety. The police don’t exist to provide personal protection to you, me, or anybody else, they exist to pick up the pieces after a crime has been committed and *hopefully* bring the perpetrator to justice.

    • Phil January 27, 2023, 9:00 am

Will Cromydas seek reimbursement for the spenr rounds and gun cleaning? Ammo isn’t cheap, you know.

  • Bob January 27, 2023, 5:42 am

OK – so, did Moss have $25K in cash for bail? And you accepted it without any, ANY concern where he got it?

    • R Smith January 27, 2023, 8:06 am

      • Jon Anono January 27, 2023, 9:36 am

        English please!

  • LawyerDrunk January 27, 2023, 5:07 am

Judge Ahmad was barred from holding Moss without bail because prosecutors did not ask her to.

    Huh??

    • MattyP January 27, 2023, 11:38 am

The prosecutors failed to make the request during the hearing. The judge couldn’t force it, she could only allow it if the request was made.

  • survivor50 January 26, 2023, 8:12 pm

Chicago Shooters couldn’t EMPTY a gun in a TRAIN and hit you !!!

    18 rounds … MY GOD !!!

    • Jon Anono January 27, 2023, 9:40 am

But four rounds jammed! Moss had four bullets and a spent casing! It’d be nice if these fucking reporters got a clue when they write.

    • MattyP January 27, 2023, 11:40 am

Bruh. 18 rounds, right!? Plus the four that jammed. This tells one very important fact: train. Learn your firearm.
