Gun-Control Coalition Urges Biden to Double Down on Efforts in Letter

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Authors Current Events This Week

A coalition of 117 groups sent a letter to President Biden putting pressure on him to increase gun control regulations. This letter came just before The National Rifle Association warned that the latest wave of demands from the gun control lobby aims to use recent mass shooting events to nullify the right to own firearms.

The letter from the coalition, titled #TheTimeIsNow, made a series of demands to limit incidents of gun violence.

The letter calls for Biden to: declare a national emergency on “the gun violence epidemic,” ban “foreign-made assault weapons with no sporting purpose,” implement the Safer Communities Act, and spend $5 billion on programs and initiatives to help low-income communities with high levels of criminal violence.

According to the gun violence archives, which includes gang and drug shootings as mass shooting events, there have been 1,500 non-suicide deaths from guns since the first of the year. They also claim there have been 52 mass shooting events in the same time frame.

Amy Hunter, the director of media relations for the NRA, said the groups pressuring Biden want to strip away the 2A rights of law-abiding Americans.

“Biden is more than happy to do the bidding of gun control groups, as he has already proven. They are applying additional pressure because more is never enough,” Hunter told Fox News Digital. “Their ultimate goal is a country where citizens are stripped of their Second Amendment freedoms and the government has total control.”

Hunter said if Biden and gun control groups were serious about gun violence, they would focus more on how to curb violent crime.

“If they were interested in a safer America, they would support policies that put criminals behind bars and protect the rights of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their families,” she said. “This is why all Americans must stay vigilant and elect candidates who will defend freedom — not erode it.”

The Democrat-controlled Congress passed The Safer Communities Act with some Republican support to strengthen red flag laws and tighten background checks nationwide.

With a Republican majority in the House, more legislation is unlikely but might push Biden to take executive action. So far, the president’s focus has been on community-based interventions that include mental health initiatives to counter gang violence.

The coalition, which included groups like Amnesty International, the American Federation of Teachers and The Campaign to Keep Guns off Campus, expressed support for Biden’s campaign promises from 2020 but urged him to use the office of the presidency to keep his word.

“While Congress must continue to prioritize gun violence prevention, you have the opportunity to act boldly by announcing a comprehensive plan of action to reduce gun deaths at the State of the Union on February 7, 2023,” stated the letter to the president.”

Latest figures are for 2021: Firearm deaths: 47,000 (includes all, suicides, accidents, murders including gang-related); Fentanyl deaths: 100,000. Why do we hear so much about firearms when more than twice as many deaths are due to Fentanyl? AND most of the precursor chemicals to make Fentanyl in Mexico come from China!

They count self defense as gun violence. A technicality, and simultaneously effectively a lie. There are 3 kinds of untruths—lies, damn lies, and statistics. When they cry, but the children!, they dont always know that some groups now count 27 yros as children, up from the 23 yro of some years ago, and the 21 yros before that. And its fairly common knowledge that in that extended age group the gun violence is gangly, and robbery. It seems the usa is high on the list for gun deaths among ‘civilised’ countries, but falls to the bottom of that list when big ‘democrat’-run cities are taken out, and falls off the list when suicides and self defense are taken out. They freak out about mass shootings, which for a while have included gangly drive-bys, and now include anybody dead beyond (and including) the shooter, but they dont like to mention knife, sword, and machete mass killings from england to canada to china to afrika, or the bombings on the rise in europe; that is not consistent with their ‘guns are inherently evil’ narrative. Heads up, and keep yer powder dry, they will never give up even after they have eradicated all but the most docile sheep

They are not gun control groups they are gun confiscation and gun ban groups. Use the correct descriptive labels, not the more innocuous labels they prefer.

So if I get hurt or killed by the criminal element due to restrictions placed on me where otherwise I could have had a chance to protect myself or others, I should be able to successfully sue all those organizations for depriving me of my 2nd Amendment right.

Are there even 117 pro 2A groups that could “coalesce” write the other side of the argument? Creating new bureaucracy to solve a problem only expands the government and the problem. Focusing on existing laws and enforcing them would do more to reduce gun violence than any of the new initiatives outlined in the letter.

FJB and F’ all the anti-gunners! If people don’t like our 2A rights; they should move somewhere else.

The time is not now. The time was 10 years ago. The time was 25 years ago. The 24th anniversary of Columbine is what, 2 months away? I was in Highland Park for the 10th anniversary, unrelated. And they pulled that school shooting off with Hi Point carbines and 10 round magazines! But, common sense may have to settle for now. McCarthy may even go for it.

And the precursor markers were there, but the local Leo’s ignored them , and then waited outside for who knows what before going in.
Columbine is a piss poor choice as an example, unless you want an example of crappy parenting, kids who didn’t warn adults (many knew), foolish Teachers, and poor Law Enforcement.
In short, a great example of todays ‘progressive’ ways, where kids know no respect, and adults are too lazy and forgiving of young mens lack of respect and restraint.
