Rarely do you see a really good product for the shooting world at a cheap price, but the stuff from MTM Case-Gard is always an exception. This is a shooting box that holds all of your cleaning supplies and tools, and it doubles as a work station for cleaning and working on your guns. MTM makes both a classic shooting box model and this one that comes with an extra insert made specifically for the .223 magazine well of an AR-15 and compatibles.

mtm-caseguard-tactical-range-box-traysThe system is set up like a stacked tackle box. The base belly compartment holds the rifle stands and larger supplies. It is topped with a latch-on cap that is itself another box with a lid and latches. There are compartments in the top, plus two removable trays.

The gun forks fit into slots in the base, as does the AR-15 magwell attachment. The whole system works great, and we actually use it. Though it is made specifically for the AR-15, this system is really a one-product solution for all of your cleaning and tinkering needs at the range. At under $60, it is well under the range bags out there that are little more than a satchel with side pockets. Love this box!

It’s a great box and even better if bought at Walmart for $38.98

I’ve had this case for about six months & have found it very useful. Yes the lower might misalign if you overstuff it but a little pressure along the split instantly remedies that issue Remember this is intended to be a range box & not the storage system found on your work bench. When loaded with what I would use in the field case bulge just isn’t a issue. The latches have proved more than adequate & have never let go even when I’ve over stuffed the box. What I found to MTM’s credit is after reading this article I realized my case was not supplied with the AR mag well vise. I called MTM & they shipped one out to me no charge even though I’ve had it for Six months. A great range box at a great price from a great company. I’ve read MTM gives a portion of their profits back to the shooting community. So if your looking for a range box the MTM box wont disappoint you.

Had this same box for years & Love it so much I bought a 2nd. Admin comments are correct if you keep your cleaning supplies in it no problem, but overload or hastily close then you will have “alignment issues” for the price it’s better than good…

I was looking at some AR building tools last week and saw a vise to mag port holder. $35.00. Subtract that and the box and other holders cost you $14.00. Hell of a deal.

Went to Amazon to look at this box, and found many comprehensive reviews that weren’t too pleased with this box. Everyone agrees that it is a great idea, but the execution was poor. It seems that it’s a very thin, flexible plastic used for the box itself, and the latches are much less than desirable. Complaints were that you had to flex the sides of the box to get it to align for closing, and that the latch broke when removing the box from the vehicle, and all the cleaning equipment ended up laying in the parking lot.
I think I will wait to see it in person before deciding to buy one, and probably will wait to see if they beef it up first.

Online reviews are always full of fools who don’t use things the way they are intended. If you overstuff the box and force it closed because stuff is sticking out of the top of the bottom box, yea, you’d have to flex it. Otherwise no. The latches are fairly standard tacklebox latches. If it was “beefier” people would complain that it is too heavy. You aren’t going to fit stuff like a rubber mallet, bullet puller, etc., into this box, PLUS ammo. It is plenty big and strong enough for a comprehensive cleaning and tinkering kit, **OR** basic cleaning supplies, muffs glasses and some ammo. We use MTM boxes along with this for more ammo and other range stuff.

Some people just feel the need to complain about everything. I keep all of my cleaning supplies as well as many of my tools in this box. Yes, I probably overstuff it, but all I have to do is flex the sides a bit and the latches securely snap closed. The mag well stand works very well and the forked stands are just the right distance apart to hold my AR uppers so I can work on them. As usual, MTM provides a quality product at a very reasonable price.
